That was a really rough CGI situation, which took away from fairly decent scenes. That's a shame. I thought PR was okay today, but the bar has been low. I thought KA was quite good as well.

Ned has always been hyperly obsessed about ELQ too. Even if it's not truly a crisis Ned thinks it is with all his gatekeeper crap through the years.

I didn't know JJY was recurring when the Felicia/Luke stuff happened, but I try not to think about that story much lol. For people like MBE, JJY, JE, WK, etc they really don't have a lot of other options. You might as well recur than not work at all and go with the flow. They have all aged out of even the Lifetime/Hallmark movie genre. WK has two recurring gigs and he was practically run off GH back in the day. I will give Frank credit for giving vets that pass away their due. It is crazy that no one mentioned Amy for years after Shell passed.

I really don't know how JJY survived either. Out of all those characters you mentioned above Mac would not have been my pic to stay on lol. I think his ties to Robin/Maxie/Georgie helped because the show let go of pretty much everyone else related to them. Mac being with the PCPD probably helped as well. JJY also seems like a loyal, laidback guy that probably didn't make any demands and just was happy to work when asked.

I have no doubt that Monty had no use for Jessie, but I always thought the show left Jessie's fate up in the air because she died fairly young and it was depressing. Similar to Amy, it's more comforting to think of Jessie offscreen working than to know she died. I might be crazy, but I swear someone behind the scenes said something to that effect at some point.

Like @Vee mentioned, Mac/Felicia spent a lot of time in the Robin/Stone story during this period and wasn't there a time when Mac actually thought he was Georgie's dad as well? Damian is a character I can't recall doing much of anything. Aside from sleeping with Bobbie because of a bet with Lucy, I can't think of anything else he did and he was on for 2.5 years. Interesting. I don't think I ever remember hearing this from you. It sounds like Ron and I like the idea, but as someone who is only really a GH fan I am not sure how I would have felt with the show wrapping up like that. I also always assumed Cole and Starr's daughter would reappear at some point.

Yeah, I think they actually did try to lean into MBE's strengths as a heroine, and the Nik stuff was so cringe, but so was the Alexis makes Stefan/Katherine think they are siblings crap. Which I still don't understand why that was a story because it amounted to nothing. I think every writer had an entirely different idea about Katherine and what she was supposed to be and it was MBE's name that kept her run going as long as she did. Honestly, she would have been much more useful on Days in the 90's instead although I wonder who JER would have paired Kayla with.

Stefan/Katherine were actually my first memories of MBE/SN and I remember wondering why they were so popular lol. Katherine was ill defined from the jump and she just went from one strange pairing to the next. I still can't recall why she and Ned married (blackmail...over something?). I don't remember a ton about Mac/Katherine but I do remember Mac practically bribing people like Robin to be friends with her which was amusing. I liked her rivalry with Lucy and her stint at Deception, but then Katherine would have odd jobs like planning one of Brenda/Jax's weddings. Because....it gave her something to do? I also recall Katherine's only friend being Miranda, which leads me to believe she has poor taste. Then her deaths and her creepy pairing with Nikolas. Ugh...just ugh. You have to wonder how Katherine got so far away from what the character was originally supposed to be. Stefan was pretty good. I actually might prefer Stefan to Patch tbh.

The only actor I remember pre-Ashford's Tom was the guy that played Todd Chandler on Days that is married to Lisa Trusel in real life. He was okay and very blonde. Nothing special and probably a bit too old now. I don't know who I would cast as Tom today. I am awful at that sort of thing. I do like the idea of Mark Valley though. What about Jason Brooks? If we are going down the former 90's Days actor rabbit hole, I would choose him. If I can't have Peter Blake I could see him as an aging hunky dr.

I wouldn't be against it especially if they bring on his son. I want Tom to have an edge though. When they cast Ashford Tom started out as a jerk and a bit of a drinker, but that was dropped. The show really went against any of Ashford's strengths and it was just an overall flop which probably soured Guza/Riche on recasting again. Tom/Felicia was such a strange couple to double down on and I honestly don't even remember why or when they broke up.

So strangely sexual with all their double entendres about banging things out with the AC. Eww...especially in an episode with actual sexy couples like Jason/Robin and Sonny/Brenda. It was obvious the show just wanted MA and had no clue what to do with him. It's not like KW/MA didn't have chemistry. They had a little, but their entire relationship was made out to be so sexual and neither character or actor really screams sex to me. I think the Simone character ran its course. The show made it clear her and Tom were not getting back together and she was in a dead end pairing with Justus for awhile. The only time I liked Tom was when he helped fake Laura's death with Sonny/Luke. I think to @Vee's point that Steven Lars and Tom Hardy are very similar, but you could get rid of Easton and Howarth and cast both of them. I just don't know if there is enough material for white, 50 something doctors of GH though. There are quite a few actors on this show that are in that demographic already. You can't even throw them at Becky because they are related lol.

This episode is actually hilarious. It includes SJB's Carly teaching Tony/Lucas how to rollerblade and Tony of course gets injured because he's old. It also features Matt Ashford's Tom and Felicia doing some kinky stuff to fix the Brownstone's air conditioner on the roof. Idek why Tom/Felicia were so weirdly sexual as a couple but there is a Brownstone roof set as well. And honestly that's just filler because this is the episode where Sonny decides to be with Brenda and dump Lily and Jason/Robin kiss for the first time. Tony's shorts are actually the least interesting thing about this episode, but it was the exact picture I had in my mind when I thought of 90's Tony.

Have GH 60 & Y&R 50 Been Underwhelming?
I think GH's anniversary celebration was awful! We didn't even get a montage of clips. Is it even an anniversary if I don't see Elizabeth Taylor cursing Luke/Laura or Sonny/Brenda making out in the sand in Puerto Rico? That being said, the celebration of the 60th was awful, but the show is actually pretty decent right now so there is that. I just don't understand why there wasn't more clips or flashbacks or returns to celebrate. The 50th had so many returns and weeks of celebration and this was like 3 days of a high school production of the Nurses Ball.

I would bring him back just so he can shame Carly every once and awhile. People don't call her out often enough about stealing her mother's husband because Bobbie did the responsible thing as a young prostitute and gave her up for adoption. I still can't wrap my head around that being an evil choice all these years later, but that's another topic. I know BM requested Tony be killed off after years of doing nothing, but I think it was such a mistake. He pretty much slayed every story he was given. I think part of the problem was that he wasn't a conventional, hot lead and once he aged a bit GH was over him. There are scenes with him in dad shorts and long socks and sneakers in the 90's where I can't even believe Carly wanted to hit that lol. I think Jackie got some work done once she found out she was hosting the NB. It's such a shame her work went so awry because she was so lovely in the 80's and 90's.

@dc11786 I am always surprised how good Brad Maule is as Tony. Obviously, he gets a lot of praise for the BJ story and the breakdown stuff, but he's solid his entire run. I think Tony/BM tend to get forgotten because Tony is pretty dull most of the time and overshadowed by his brother or even Alan as a Dr. and him and Bobbie aren't terribly exciting either. It's too bad the show let BM fade into obscurity after his breakdown because he is someone who could be a leading presence of the canvas today especially with Alan dead and Monica MIA.

I don't hate Kayla/Bo or anything, but that sibling relationship has the least tension and depth. They've never had any issues really. Bo's relationship with Roman and even Kim as well as Kayla/Kim are much more interesting. It's nice to see Steve/Bo/Kayla together, but when you only have Bo/Hope for a very limited time it seems silly. I would much rather he interact with more of the cast and his kids.

Days: April 2023 Discussion Thread
I think so. I believe they got remarried before he "died" and even though Hope has been remarried I think it still stands lol. They wasted so much time with Kayla. Kayla/Bo is probably my least favorite sibling relationship Bo has. But I do like Bo/Steve. I think it's just hard to tell such a big story in 15 episodes. I am not absolving Ron, but it's just not enough time to put anything together that's decent given the circumstances of Bo's death.

Yes, at the time they were chemistry testing Vanessa with half the male cast lol. I don't remember MB being tested with any other woman. I mostly remember him interacting with other men. I can't recall a Riche/Labine quote specifically about MB around that subject, but they must have seen something as they moved him into different parts of the canvas, but I think the idea was to keep him in the Luke/Damian/Frank Smith story. IIRC MB didn't have that much screen time post-Karen. It didn't rev up until the prison break and Brenda stuff, but it's hard for me to remember how long that was in real time because I mostly watch edits and it moves quick.

I think the logical assumption is when he and Brenda start dating, but I think it's before that. The show was definitely building something with him and Luke and making Sonny's relationship with Stone more defined and more protective. I think the Brenda stuff was more of a happy accident than a plan and the show was trying to give Sonny non-romantic ties to build his character which is actually refreshing. I would have to rewatch because 99% of my Sonny viewing starts with the Brenda relationship. When Labine talks about tweaking things I always thought it was in reference to Karen being under Sonny's thumb and giving her a voice back, but perhaps she saw something with Sonny as well. It is a very quick turnaround for Sonny because that strip club was shut down off screen and they don't really go into detail as to why. I think Sean says it was because of underage dancers, but it wasn't brought up very often afterwards. I think it also helped that Karen/Jagger left very shortly after this went down and "made up", if you will, around Stone's illness. We didn't have Karen around to remind us Sonny was a creeper and they did mention Brenda's age, but she also moved into adult stories and had adult friends so it didn't feel as creepy. If she was hanging out with Robin/Stone at the mall it would have been more jarring, but she was starting businesses with Lois instead.

It is weird to watch early Sonny because it's clear he's not long for the show. He has like no redeeming qualities. I always wonder when the show decides to 'keep' MB/Sonny. I assume around the time he starts interacting with Brenda, but he and Luke were forming a friendship as well. All of a sudden Karen is off drugs and that strip club is shut down quick and made into a legit club with Luke. A lot of Sonny's predatory behavior is shrugged off to make his romance with Brenda viable although I remember him saying that he did regret messing around with younger woman when Brenda came back, but that was quickly brushed aside because he was talking to Brenda and she absolved him.
