It's so silly because like @j swiftpointed out John did so many things before he came to Salem and he wasn't really very old when he appeared. You can only fit so much backstory in. It reminds me of GH when they told us Sam had been married like 5! times before she came to Port Charles and Sam was about 25 when she showed up.

I know. I just can't really think of anyone else to pair Joss with and we know she has to have a love interest.

I could let it slide, but Jagger made a big old deal about Leo and comparing him to his autistic son. He did say he was doing well and living on his own, but I don't know if that means two tours in the war good lol. It doesn't mean it can't happen, but if I recall Stone's autism as a child was fairly severe. I really don't know enough about autism to know if it's realistic to manage it as an adult as well as it appears Dex has. I tend to agree. The only reason I think Dex might stick around longer is because of Joss.

Yes. Steve and Victor both had good relationships with John and have for years. It's really difficult for me to imagine these men watching John struggle with his past and just not telling him anything. Especially Steve! I do get a bit confused with the timeline of when Stefano had John and when Victor got him. Victor was also never the one doing the brainwashing on John, so I don't know where the goofy playing card comes in.

That makes more sense to me, but we haven't seen any signs that Dex is autistic at all. Jagger mentioned his son was living on his own and doing well or something when he was talking to Olivia and Leo. So far it doesn't really add up, but it's more believable than Dex being Jason's son. Dex is probably just Dex and soon to be forgotten. ETA-do you mean Dex is another Jagger kid that's not Stone? Because I guess that's plausible.

I really don't care about Morgan one way or the other, but I did notice he was mentioned a few times. I know there have been a lot of Jason mentions, but I haven't found it as awkward as some big name returns where their entire life is exposited by some character a day or so before they come back

I don't think the Jason mentions were that clunky? They were clear, but it sorta flowed with the situations he was brought up in. They've mentioned Morgan a few times this week too and as far as I know he isn't coming back.

I absolutely believe the episodes you watched were good. I think quite a few episodes in isolation or in the climax of a story were good. I just remember the day to day being..meh. Not the worst, not the best.

JG's Dawn is the one I most associate with the role, but I have no idea if she was popular. None of the 4 Dawns lasted very long, so I don't know if any of them could build a big fanbase. I think once you are on the 4th Dawn in 2 or 3 years something isn't working. Got it. I do agree some of that story was pretty good. It still just all felt so boring to me.

They dropped it and threw it away and never spoke of it again. Lol What did you like about Altman and Van Etten. They worked together for a few years right? I can't remember anything stand out.

I always assumed it was the issue of not finding the right Dawn more than Decker. Not that I think Decker is super special, but it was more like this is more effort than we thought lol. Let's just drop it.

The Danielle story might be entirely retconned to be honest. She was John's former lover, but not married to her as she said. She knew John with a different face and tracked him down, but we know now John always looked like John. In the end, John let her get away and Danielle said they really once were in love, but she was Romulus and they broke up back in the day because John found out. She just wanted to get back with him because she wanted to steal more jewels with him I think. Or maybe the Alamain money, maybe both? It was such a weird transitional story that was really never brought up again so I don't really know where it stands. I honestly don't think I have heard anyone on the show mention it since 1992.

I think international criminal implies his stuff with Gina. Danielle/Romulus was a fraud. John had nothing to do with those crimes. I can't say Gina/John never stole jewelry, but the story from 1992 with Danielle doesn't intertwine with any of the stuff that happened with Stefano/Gina/Hope/John. John was never an actual priest. We thought he was. It was retconned and the actual power of his love saved Marlena. He was impersonating a priest all along. This belongs more in the Classic Days thread, but I think I can answer most questions about it. As far as I can say, the Yo Ling backstory still stands. The paternity just changed.

Because he wasn't. The Alamain family was paid off by Yo Ling and Petrov to fake Forrest Alamain's drowning in a pool as a child. Yo Ling went all rogue and founded an assassins academy in China and brings his 'son' John into it. A. Martinez was involved in this whole story debacle too. Forrest Alamain is John, so to speak. Forrest Alamain wasn't an Alamain by blood, but he was the same child if that makes sense. His paternity has changed, but that basic part of the story didn't. The Dick Van Dyke rewrite doesn't really change much of anything as far as backstory. John's dad wasn't evil Yo Ling, but nice guy DVD instead and Yo Ling stole his dog tags and son.

Well, with the retcons I don't believe he was actually either of those things. He pretended to be a priest with Princess Gina and Danielle was actually Romulus and the jewel thief. I believe Gina and John stole art. And John was never an ordained Priest. Just a fake one that made people feel safer with him or something so he could steal paintings. The wikipedia seems to be the most accurate from my memory, but as someone who has seen 99% of John's storylines I am not sure if I could even explain it without mistakes either.

He was bought off from the Alamains as a child by his own father (not DVD-the last dad) and sent to an assassin school very young. It's probably better to read a wiki about it because it's super confusing, but Forrest Alamain was presumed dead as a young child. Once he was a "the best soldier" he got sold to Stefano. Victor "acquires" John in some sort of gambling situation. So I would assume John was up to bad things as a teen at least and probably came to town in his early to mid 30's? I think John was described in his mid 30's when he came on the scene, but Drake was younger than that.

I don't know why every writing team has such a fascination with John's past. It's not interesting anymore. He was a bad guy that did bad things, he's probably not going to remember now and he isn't a danger to society, so just move on.

GH has sucked the drama and apprehension out of nearly every story these last few years, so I expect very little. It looks like NLG is having a conversation with someone oblivious to cameras around her. Like I mentioned, I am happy you showed restraint and didn't put a big old pic of Steve Burton's face on the first post.

I don't need anymore rando John kids. John's past is probably the most played out story in the history of soaps. It makes no sense, no one cares anymore, and can we just let him live out his life with Marlena in peace? Lol. I also think EOB has found her groove as Theresa. I still want to rip that wig off everyday, but it does seem like she is understanding what she needs to play now.

I'll be honest, I am not terribly concerned about Sonny or Ava's personal safety so I am not surprised the show isn't. They'll be fine. They always are.

It's not even like Days NEEDS to do anything much with John. Drake has so few guarantees that he can just hang back and support his family, have some cute scenes with Marlena, be a good dad/grandad, and continue like that. I wonder if it has more to do with Steve needing a story.

I think it has more to do with her being Olivia's sister who was just killed than anything to do with Sonny. Yup! It's not that meta or serious. We all were just laughing at a photo that looked like it was set up and shot by a 10 year old child. I suspect Violet may have something to do with it!😂
