Unfortunately I see a lot of general people who think it will be a big year for Democrats, which ends up giving me 2016 flashbacks. That's why I thought the article was interesting.

That's understandable - I was just confused as I didn't think anyone from Florida would know any details about him you couldn't get from a pundit.

Don't sell people short.  There are people from different countries that know a great deal about American politics.  If someone from another country can be knowledgeable, why not someone from another state?

And some pundits turn out to be no more knowledgeable than the well-read person you talk to in the subway station.

The political punditry has its place but I wouldn't take it as the end all, be all.

It's not really a Beltway article. It's more about numbers and trends.

    Isn't he running in Texas?

Why am I confusing Rubio and Cruz??  Oh yeah, right, spineless GOP politicians who only use their ethnicity when it suits their political career.

Hopefully people would read click the link and see that it's Texas.  And hey, someone in Florida might also know who this candidate is and have some thought as well (*shrugs*).

I'm just not as interested in getting a pundit's perspective this time around.

No one knows what's going to happen, but I am done listening to any Beltway press or media when it comes to politics. Politico did a horrible take the day before on one of our local congressional races here in Illinois - Lipinski vs. Newman, basically insisting democrats need to stay with Blue Dog Lipinski.

    +1

One of the reasons why I posed my question specifically toward boardmates who live in Florida is because I wanted to get away from the pundit press articles.

Many of these press pundits staunchly state one thing, only to reverse their stance or pretend they never stated what was previously said anyway.  They've all been practicing this special form of plausible deniability since the horrendous outcome of the 2016 election.

I'm done with them being the first source of what's supposedly going on in the "grassroots".

  4. Congratulations to Frances for winning his first ATP title. The final wasn't of the highest quality with an injured opponent but Tiafoe had plenty of competition along the way!!

I thought JCF was a good fit. I see Becker is circling....he needs that money!

I saw a tweet in German where Becker claimed that he was happy in his current position with the German tennis federation and although he thinks Sascha is highly talented, he's not looking to coach Zverev.

Yeah - I definitely enjoyed Downton because it was just a soap opera set in the past. Like Upstairs, Downstairs.  Although I enjoyed the original Upstairs, Downstairs far more than Downton. And I loved Downton!!  I've never cried so hard at a series ending as I did Upstairs, Downstairs though. My dog actually came over and pawed me out of concern.

I'll never watch Upstairs, Downstairs' ending again - I won't put myself through that ever again.

Have you ever seen the rebooted Upstairs, Downstairs?  That was the first time I ever remember seeing Claire Foy.  Other than that, I didn't really find the reboot to be all that good.

  6. All of this talk about how supposedly armed authority figures would make schools safer but the armed deputy assigned to Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School hid behind a column and never entered the school!

Sheriff: Armed deputy never went into school to engage gunman during shooting

I can hardly keep up with all these indictments.  Geez, what a bunch of crooks!

I hear you. I only had that thought because of how often the right used the whole "Obama is coming for your guns" rallying cry to scare the gun lovers.  As far as I know that was all basically fantasy. I just wish it were true and he had that kind of power.

I wonder if the movement underway right now can gain traction?I certainly hope it will, but as we've both mentioned at times, if Sandy Hook didn't wake people up, will anything? In a better place having these young victims advocate for themselves would be shaming us all into action, but you see how strongly some on the right are even trying to attack these kids. It's beyond disgusting.

My only concern would be for Obama's safety in regards to those crazy gun nuts if he really did try to come for their guns.

The attacks on these high school kids are unconscionable.

If shame is the only tool they have to use to get some positive action, I say "shame away!"

I'm really trying to ignore the Dinesh D'Souzas of the world. Since I was a child, I've loathed him...ever since I saw an interview with him on PBS where he defended the racist Bell Curve theory.

People are shocked by him, I'm not, he's been a brown-skinned white supremacist for decades now.  Others are now getting to see how vile a human being he truly is.

    I've had that same thought.

Only Congress could've passed a law that would have a lasting impact.

Think of how quickly Trump reversed that Obama rule that prevented people with mental health issues from accessing certain weapons.  Obama did that by executive order because that was the sole tool at his disposal but the problem with E.O. is that it can be quickly reversed by the next president.

A law cannot be easily reversed, which involves action by Congress, which up to this point, they have refused to do.

  9. Conservatives are whining that they've each lost thousands of followers on Twitter overnight.

Well, they were most likely bots and were purged similar to the purge that happened last month with the accounts of many celebrities and social media "influencers" whose accounts were also proliferated by bots.

Some have even taken to whining that they are being locked out of Twitter, on Twitter!  Think about that.
