Tennis players are tested a lot and are usually hyperviligant about what they consume, and if a massive star like Sharapova can get caught flat-footed and outed, I imagine anyone can. There are always TUEs (therapeutic use exemptions), of course.

Sharapova couldn't be bothered with the paperwork and extensive doctor's exams to go for the TUE.  Also, she never declared that she had a physical ailment that needed treatment, let alone a disclosure of her use of meldonium, which still strikes me as weird.

I mean, we all know that Petra has asthma and uses an inhaler. We knew when Heather Watson and Christina McHale were suffering from glandular fever and Venus' struggles with Sjgrogren's are well documented, as well as Serena's history with bloodclots.

Why no papertrail for Maria?  Strange.

Sorry but Errani's excuse of her mom's meds falling into the pasta doesn't pass muster for me.  I had a relative who took cancer meds and kept them in her bedroom, NEVER in the kitchen. There is a strong warning against anyone except the patient even handling the medicine because it is so strong.

Ah thanks.....my dad who use to watch tennis during my HS and College years playing days hasn't kept up with it but says something fishy with Nadal winning 11 times....LOLOL

Well, Sharapova and Errani wave hello, LOL.  Doping doesn't always yield record-breaking success, especially in a sport like tennis that demands skills other than speed and force.

Nadal said he was going to but I haven't heard anything since.

And back to the women's vs men's golden era....with Sloane and Madison's games heating it up along with the Williams Sisters the ratings will only improve for women's tennis. I don't see any American male player stepping up to the plate. Ratings will continue to stay low with only Rafa and Roger winning slams.

She was sued.  Nadal was successful.

By the way, here is a proven doping case being played out right now.

  4. At least this match will soon end.  Yesterday's women's final was far more entertaining, IMO.

EDT: Okay maybe the end may not be as swift as it looks as if one of Nadal's hands has cramped.

EDT: Okay, I'm hearing it may not have been a cramp but the wrapping cutting into his circulation.

Nonetheless, I truly think the match is over.

  5. All the other countries said the G-7 summit was successful.  I guess that was after Trump left.

Given the kind of life Iva had.. I could understand her being a downer... and her all too brief pairing with Kirk made her come alive.  The only other time Iva came alive was when she won the cruise and got a make over and had the time of her life.  Considering that she was raped by whom she thought was her cousin, had a baby at 13/14, gave the baby up, and basically ran away from home.. I'm surprised she was only lethargic.  While I didn't like who she ended up with, he seemed like a nice and steady guy... and that was what was needed in her life..imho.

When people mention Sam, I'm hoping everyone meant the first Sam... the tall, sarcastic Sam and not the sappy recast.. right?

Oh, of course I realize why Iva was 'put-upon', given the kind of backstory the character had, it would be strange if she had never seen her that way.

What I take issue was the constant drumbeat of misery, especially when it seemed that the character had taken a different path.

It just seemed like dumping her into an abyss of misery repeatedly was a way of creating something to do with the character at a time when story may have been 'thin' for her.

Iva was never going to be a giddy character, even when she was with Kirk, she could be dour and tough and always pragmatic and she didn't need to be suffocated under a blanket of misery to achieve that.  In fact, she had more of an edge in her early days interacting with the Kirk character than I'd ever seen her before or since on the show.

    EDT:

By the way, I come from a long line of women who endured very hard lives (at least one is a rape survivor herself).  Maybe because their lives were so tough, they made time and space to experience joy.

Now, had Iva been bi-polar or diagnosed with clinical depression, that would have been a good aspect to explore and would have made perfect sense for going back and forth but it was never explored so I'm only left to assume that someone (maybe at P&G) wanted Iva in a near constant state of dour misery.

Personally, I don't enjoy watching women constantly being tortured by life. Personally, life is hard enough as a woman in this world and as a Black woman?  Whew!

Tom Wiggin even brought a slight spark of life to that drippy Iva.

IMO Kirk was Iva's best pairing.  In the very beginning they had that witty, sharp dialogue that I used to love to hear from HBS and GM's Tom and Margo (what we writers would call 'The Billy Wilder Effect').  They even had a bit of that combative repartée, the way John and Lucinda sometimes had. They were dynamic and in the beginning, Iva didn't have to play the put-upon 'heavy' as she had in other other relationships.  It was a big mistake to pull them apart without them finding their way back to each other.

If Kirk and Iva were going to be involved in a triangle (of sorts), I would've rather Marland wait for Sam, Lucinda's sister.  Given Lucinda and Iva's acrimonious history, Sam becoming the interloper to Kirk and Iva's fraying relationship would've added extra interest.

Hey, I loved Kirk and Iva!! I still remember their first kiss.

That pairing of Iva and Kirk put Iva in a light I had not been used to see her before--they sizzled.  IMO none of Iva's other pairings had that kind of sizzle.  I didn't even know the Iva character was capable of producing those kind of sparks!

Yes, he brought some life to her. They were good together. I still chuckle when he had to had to correct her garbled way of pronouncing "vulnerable," LOL. Didn't she pronounce it "VUN-ER-LABEL" or something?  Hilarious. It was funny too, when he blew Iva and Lisa air kisses and Lisa make desperate sweeping motions with her hands to block them.

Wow, is there video online?  I'd love to see that, LOL.

  8. Simona saw Wozniacki get hers and Sloane before that, so Simona was determined this year.

The first two sets were very competitive and the third set was more about Simona holding off any nerves that might have showed up but Sloane wore herself out and Simona had more in reserve having had long runs on Chatrier before.

  9. Apologies if this was posted previously, but Tika Sumpter has booked a lead role.  Is Sonic the Hedgehog really that popular though?

As for Rome Flynn, no doubt, it pays to be a resident of Shondaland.

He comes across like an old fool. I'm not sure if he was always like this.  It's like Trump has given a big chunk of people permission to show their inner loon.  It's truly disturbing.  They lie with impunity and believe there are "alternate facts".

Giuliani always came across as an a$$hole (e.g. the brutal way in which his Law & Order agenda dealt with POC) but he was able to maintain his reputation of some integrity because of his prosecutions of the mob in NYC.

Frankly, whatever respect I might have held for Rudy, I lost it the day he chose to announce publicly his separation from his then-wife, Donna, without bothering to tell her first.  Seriously, what kind of asshat are you to do that even to a wife you probably couldn't stand?

I never had any respect for him.

Black and brown people caught absolute hell during his regime and working class New Yorkers lost economic ground during his mayoral years.

I suspect the tourists loved Giuliani because he capitalized on a downward trend in crime (that had already taken effect before he became mayor) and convinced them that the city had become "safe" because of him, while he helped Disney-fy Times Square (a policy that Mario Cuomo's administration actually laid the groundwork for) .

As someone who had lived in NYC and got to read of and see the abuses of the Giuliani regime up close, I was glad that the city would finally see him out and I knew I would never vote to elect him for any public office--not even dog catcher.

If anything surprises me, it's the level of greed and ingratiating behavior that he has exhibited.  I never knew that Giuliani could lick someone else's boots with such alacrity as he has with Trump.

Wow at Halep coming through strong over Muguruza! She wants that French Open title!

She's gonna have to fight Sloane for it, LOL.  I hope to see a good battle and not what I just saw in the 2nd SF.

  12. I am still mostly indifferent about the entire C-gate situation (though I already stated that I have never used the word and don't like it) because I assert that both these women are as far from marginalized as one can get and both can surely take care of themselves but I came across this on social media and thought it was interesting and I know there was strong debate about this situation in this thread, so perhaps others may find this interesting too.
