There was an almost scuffle between Lester's Jack and Victor. Victor had just watched Nikki's goodbye video when she was dying and Jack came over to tell Victor to keep away from Ashley or something. Victor got pretty angry and they almost went for it. I have to admit Lester seemed intimidated, as many actors do when in those scenes with Braeden. Just remember too, it was Lester's Jack that lost Jabot to Victor, so not sure he would have won many battles even if he stayed. Plus Lester was coasting in his last year, seemed very bored or restless and unhappy. I honestly didn't see a big shift with Jack initially, until after the Nikki marriage, and even that may have softened Lester's Jack, though I think the loveable bastard Lester did so well would have stayed. Bergman didn't seem to have as much fun, even when he was having fun. I don't know that the stories would have been that much different, maybe just played out slightly different. I think I would have liked the Luan/Keemo story with Lester more for some reason. I have just never been able to shake the weasel from Bergman, Lester was just more loveable and fun. Every time I call Lester's Jack a rat and some other colourful words, I always do it with a smile on my face. I see Vanessa, Casey and Nikki, is the other one April? Nice find.

From what I remember (from synopsis as I wasn't born at that point) Cynthia worked in the clinic Snapper opened after he was fired from the hospital due to his father's death (Liz had pulled the plug, but a nurse walked in on Snapper and assumed he was the one who euthanized his father , as Liz was going to tell the police what really happened, she had a stroke and she forgot what happened). I don't think anything happened between Snapper and Cynthia, maybe a mild flirtation on his part, though I think she did try, Snapper didn't do anything as far as I am aware. Though this all happened mostly in 1977, so not sure what she was doing the year before. Cynthia, I think, also went after Brad Elliot, just as he was getting a divorce from Leslie. She traveled with him to get an operation on his eyes, Brad hoped that if the surgery was a success he could get to Leslie before she signed the papers, the surgery worked and Cynthia was supposed to send word to Leslie, but she waited until Leslie signed the papers. Brad still rejected Cynthia and went after Leslie. Not sure how Cynthia exited the show, I think she just left town. Thanks CarlD2 for the articles. Now that I am back online, hopefully I can get back to sharing all the synopsis I have from the SOD mags I have.

Not sure what the deal was I think they were in Victoria's name, Nikki convinces Victor to sign them into her name so that she can give them back to Victoria, so she has a legacy to pass on, though she gives them to Marc, or something like that. I will have to dig out the next few issues when I get a chance and see what the deal was.

Yeah they had the scene of Nina slipping over on the ice up on youtube, not sure about the scenes in the bar. Steven was murdered by the son of one of his patients who shot him after he committed the guys mother to a mental health hospital. I think that may have been Eileen's last week on the show, not sure. Her last air date has often been cited as Nov 8th or something around there.

Here is the second part of Jan 1988. All I can say is Paul's business was pretty busy this month. I will try to get Feb and March done over the next day, then aim for 3 months every week. January 18th – 29th Ashley recovers from a bout of fatigue, to continue enjoying her honeymoon with her husband. Determined to end the marriage, Leanna sends more poisoned flowers and lei’s and attends a luau in disguise. The party is to honor Ash and Steven’s wedding vows. In the middle of the feast, Ashley is taken ill as a result of her exposure to the poison in the flowers and lei’s. Steven takes Ashley back the their room and arranges for a doctor and a flight home to Genoa City. Setback Stricken with an attack of acute appendicitis, Leanna is forced to undergo emergency surgery in Hawaii and must stay behind when the newlyweds return home. By the time Ashley is admitted to the hospital in Genoa City, she seems recovered and the doctors can find nothing wrong with her. Leanna was foiled…….this time. Jack The Matchmaker Jack tells Marc that Nikki isn’t moving off the Newman Ranch. Now is the time for Marc to make his move, Jack pushes, before Nikki and Victor have a chance to patch up their differences. Heeding Abbotts advice, Marc invited Nikki to go dancing. She’ll have to check her schedule, Nikki answers cagily. Parental Problems Gina is worried that Rex is in some kind of hot water. Not to worry, Rex assures hi daughter. He’s paid his debt to society and is on the straight and narrow. Impressed by Rex’s sincerity, Gina reprimands Danny for telling Kay that Rex is a con man. Danny should talk to Rex and see how he’s changed. Danny refuses. Danny isn’t the only one with a parent he can’t stand to be around. Cricket wants absolutely nothing to do with her mother. She’s relieved when Jessica’s departure date passes, unaware that Kay has convinced Jessica to stay in town. Nina’s Night Out Paul is convinced that Chuck is the man Jill is looking for. Set up a meeting as soon as possible, an anxious Jill orders the detective. Amy has to fork over one hundred dollars to get Chuck to agree to meet with Jill. It will be worth the money, Jill is certain. When Chuck finally meets Jill, he reveals – for an additional five hundred dollars – that he slept with Nina. However there is no way he is the father of any kid Nina is carrying, Chuck adds. He’s sterile. He gives Jill the name of his doctor, who will confirm his condition. Nina talks Esther into a night on the town. Mrs. Chancellor doesn’t ever need to know, cajoles the stir crazy boarder. Dressed in some of Kay’s old clothes, the women head for a singles bar, where they pick up a couple of men. Esther gives her phone number to one of them. The man Nina has attached herself to immediately loses interest when he discovers Nina is pregnant. Ticked off, Nina wants to leave. As Nina and Esther make their way through the parking lot to find their car, Nina slips on the ice and falls. Grabbing her abdomen, Nina begs Esther to rush her to the hospital. Esther is terrified – now Mrs. Chancellor will really be mad at her. Enough Is Enough Lauren believes Marc is after JoAnna’s money. When JoAnna refuses to listen to her daughter’s suspicions, Lauren hires Paul to investigate Mergeron. She won’t stand by and watch Marc clean out her mother’s bank account. Not only does Brad refuse to accompany Lauren to the hospital to discuss the Neil Fenmore cardiac care wing, he tells her he can’t see her anymore. He found that Lauren told Tim that she and Brad were seeing each other. Shaken, Lauren begs him not to end their relationship. She needs him in her life. Lauren’s tearful pleas convince a reluctant Brad to help her set up the foundation for her father. Jack does his darndest to downplay Brad and Jill’s success with their new product line. But John has decided that it is time to go national and severely reprimands Jack for his negative position. Prove It! Esther summons Kay to the hospital after Nina’s fall. Jill arrives too, and both women secretly hope Nina has a miscarriage. To their chagrin, a period of touch-and-go is followed by Nina’s recuperation. Back home, Kay insists that Nina will have to be locked in her room. Nina proved she can’t be trusted. She has no business bar hopping with Esther. When Nina balks at being held prisoner, Kay tells her she can either accept her fate or get out of the Chancellor house. Nina backs down. Rex wants to contact his son, but Gina doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Danny still blames Rex for his mother’s death. Rex persuades Gina to give him the key to Danny’s apartment and he heads over to confront his son for the first time in years. The sight of his father makes Danny furious. Rex wants to make amends, but Danny won’t let him. Danny tells his father that if he really wants to prove that he has turned away from a life of crime, then he should stop seeing Kay…….forever. Rex is in a quandary. You Had A Father Cricket is mad. Not only has her mother decided to stay in town, she rented an apartment in Cricket’s building. She wants to make up for the years they’ve spent apart. Jessica had her mother raise Cricket so that Cricket wouldn’t be affected by Jessica’s lifestyle, by the constant stream of men in her life, Jessica explains. Cricket wants to know who her father was. Jessica tells her, he was a soldier who died in Vietnam. He was going to marry Jessica, but died before he knew he was going to be a father. A dubious Cricket hires Paul to investigate Jessica’s claim.

I have no sympathy for Nina, she practically raped Phillip, no actually I would say she did rape him, he certainly didn't know what he was doing. She deserved much worse. Just because they redeemed her doesn't change what she did. Here is the first two weeks of Jan 1988, just working on the second half, I have basically done verbatim what is in SOD. I had to guess the dates. This is from the Feb 9th 1988 issue of SOD, is that the right one? The issue before it had references to Christmas and the Candy Cane Ball, so I assume this must be Jan 1988. January 4th – 15th Nina is getting bored with her lonely life at the Chancellor estate, secluded in a room in a remote wing of the house. Kay insists on taking Nina to the doctor for an ultrasound test to see how the baby is progressing. To Kay’s dismay, the results of the test indicate a healthy boy. Rex’s Cover Is Blown Gina is worried about her father, but Rex assures her he isn’t in any trouble. The reason he has an assumed name is to make a fresh start. Danny doesn’t buy it. Certain his father is using Kay in a scam, Danny tells Kay the truth; Rex is really his father, and he is a con man. Rex may not have asked Kay for anything yet, Danny tells Kay, but it’s only a question of time. Kay thanks Danny for the information, and assures him she’ll handle the situation. Cricket Gets A Family Cricket’s mother arrives in town unexpectedly. Cricket hasn’t seen her mother in years and isn’t happy about seeing her now. Jill is impressed with Jessica, and insists on arranging a dinner party with Jessica as the guest of honor. It will give Cricket’s mother a chance to get to know Phillip and the immediate family. The Marriage Ashley tries to tell Victor that she is marrying Steven, but she can’t bring herself to do it. She and Steven have a small wedding in the Abbott living room with only the immediate family present, then jet to Hawaii for their honeymoon. Jack hasn’t had much luck pursuing Leanna. He can’t even manage to procure her phone number or address. But now that Leanna thinks Ashley is involved with Victor, not Steven, she’s in a particularly good mood and accepts Jack’s invitation to lunch. Wedding Repercussions Jack takes Leanna to the Colonnade Room for lunch and dancing. Her high spirits plummet when Jack tells Leanna that his sister just married Dr. Lassiter. Ashley will not keep Steven, Leanna silently vows. Victor nearly goes into shock when he opens the morning paper and sees that Ashley and Steven were married. A sympathetic Nikki promises to stay out of his way. She understands how much it hurts to lose the one you love. Secretly Nikki hopes the news will keep her own marriage alive. There’s no longer an “other woman”. Victor receives a letter from Ashley explaining her decision to marry Steven. Newman is angry and confused. He feels betrayed by the woman he loved. Opposition Traci’s got problems. She’s staying in Genoa City with her husband, but Tim doesn’t know yet. He’s bound to be opposed to the idea. What’s more, Tim told her that Brad has been seeing Lauren. Traci confronts Lauren, who admits that she and Brad are friends. Brad is off limits, Traci warns. He’s chosen is wife over Lauren and they are living together again. Traci and Brad’s relationship isn’t the only one Lauren is having issues with. She can’t stand the fact that her mother is dating Marc and giving him expensive gifts. Unknown to Lauren, JoAnna agress to pay for Marc’s living quarters if he’ll move into a hotel room across the hall. Get Out Of My Life Cricket is annoyed that her mother is still in town, and agrees to attend Jill’s dinner party only because she has no choice. However, she makes her mother swear to leave town on the first plane out tomorrow. Jill’s soiree is a success. Jill, Kay and Rex are all impressed by Jessica. To Cricket’s horror, Kay offers to put Jessica up at her estate if she’s interested in extending her stay in Genoa City. After the party, Cricket demands that her mother keep her word and take off the next morning. It’s obvious to everyone that Cricket and Jessica aren’t on good terms. Kay intends to remedy that. She’ll find a way to make Jessica stay in town, a well intentioned Kay plots. Jessica keeps recalling her doctor telling her that is she is ever going to make up with Cricket, now is the time. She needn’t be afraid to touch her daughter, the doctor added. No harm can come of it. Jessica would like to attend Cricket’s wedding, but doesn’t want to interfere. As Jessica is preparing to leave for the airport, she runs into Kay. Mrs. Chancellor pleads with Jessica to stay and mend the rift with her daughter. Jessica says she’ll consider it. The Lady Is A Tramp Determined to refute Nina’s claim that Phillip is the father of her unborn child, Jill hires Paul’s detective agency to track down any men Nina slept with last summer. Amy circulates Nina’s picture to locate any boyfriends she might have had, and locates a guy names Chuck. For a payoff, Chuck tells Amy he slept with Nina. Handing Amy his phone number, Chuck says he’ll provide more information if she’ll fork over the cash. Deadly Flowers Leanna hops the first available flight to Hawaii, and finds the hotel were Steven and Ashley are honeymooning. She purchases a beautiful lei, sprays it with a highly toxic poison and has it delivered to Ashley’s room. Ashley assumes the lei is from Steven and puts it on. Suddenly tired, Ashley takes a nap still wearing the lei. That evening Ashley receives another box of poisoned flowers. She sniffs them during a romantic night with her husband. Ashley’s soon tired again, forcing her to call the evening short. Leanna vows that Steven will leave the island a widower.

Jill spiked Kay's medicine. It was during the story about the affair in Nov 1983 with Jack after Kay got a hold of the pictures. She tried to have Jazz knock her off, when he refused she put vodka in her liquid vitamin bottle. This is how she had Kay fall off the wagon. Thanks for the questions. Would be quite interesting to play.

It happened again in 1981 when the Douglas/Kay/Derek story finished, Jeanne was barely seen on screen for a few months. I think what you are talking about CarlD2 would have been around the time of the failed first attempt at getting the Jill/Derek/Kay story going. From synopsis I have read from that year, Jill/Brenda didn't have much to do once that story was dropped. It would have been interesting, but I am glad it didn't happen.

I never watched the show until the mid 80's so I don't know. But I though Kay and Jill had no interaction at all between about Mar 1980 to the time in this clip which was around Sep/Oct 1982. If they did interact was it minimal at best as I don't remember ever reading about any storyline between the two women in that period I mentioned. I know in this clip Kay just found out about Jill and John planning to marry. She ended up sending John a transcript of the paternity suit Jill brought against the Chancellor estate in 1976. Ashley saw it first and questioned Jill who managed to explain it all away to Ashley, though Ash warned her she would be keeping an eye on Jill and hid the transcript from her father and John and Jill were married in Oct 1982. The second clip is from Dec 1982 when Kay let loose on Jill at a party she threw. Too bad Kay doesn't throw more parties these days.

I read in some archived newspaper article that was about the premiere of the show, that the Henderson's were going to be the second core family, with the Foster's playing a smaller role. I read too that Robert Clark who played Bruce turned up in June 1973 after Liz found out she had cancer. I also read somewhere that Leslie got her first concert tour in autumn/fall 1973 and that Jennifer went with her and planned to see Bruce as much as she could, so I assume the Henderson's were only in Genoa City for the summer. I don't know how true any of this is, decent storyline info for 1973 is hard to find.

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
The cast pic from 1994 is 1996 and the pic labelled 1995 is 1995. That is why neither Tracey Bregman or Kimberlin Brown appear as Kimberlin was off the show for a short period and Tracey didn't join until late Oct 1995. Rick and Bridget didn't get the spotlight until the whole paternity thing so 1996 would be their first cast picture. Also Barbara Crampton had longer darker hair when she began. I also think the 1998 pic is from 1999 as I am pretty sure KKL didn't cut her hair until around Dec 1998 and I doubt they would have shot that pic then, it looks like they did most of the cast pictures in the early to mid part of the year. It would also explain why Kimberlin Brown doesn't appear as she left around Oct 1998.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
General Hospital moved to cable around the late 90's, I think when Ingo joined, and has been on and off, I think it is back on. I am pretty sure they are playing AMC again on some free to air channel in July. Y&R got axed from its home for 30 years and moved to cable. Days is where it has always been and B&B still runs in its same timeslot.

I agree, and I think it was out of character for Ashley and somewhat for Diane and Nikki, though the cat fights between Diane and Nikki during that period were classic and fun. Even Eileen said that she didn't think Ashley would be the one who ended up pregnant. It was the beginning of the end for me watching the show.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Being a pre-teen/teen during the JER era I can say everyone my age at the time loved Days, the possession storyline was what everyone was talking about. I know we ended up being 4 years behind, but I am sure that the Carly being buried alive story aired in very late 1993, I remember rushing home from primary school to watch, I could do that because I went to school 10 min from my house. The JER era finished around 2000/2001. We not only got pre-empted for Cricket but they also took the show off the air for a full month over Dec/Jan for Christmas and New Years, and even if the Cricket got rained out or wasn't shown for some reason, they still didn't air Days or Y&R. that is why we were so far behind. The possession storyline aired around 1998, I taped everything back then and made my parents watch, I taped every episode between Jan 1995 - Dec 1996 (U.S timeline) I wish they hadn't been destroyed. I also remember Mary Beth Evans and Stephen Nichols coming to Australia in the early to mid 90's after Kayla and Patch had already left Salem. Suzanne Rogers also came out around 1998 or so, I remember that because all the waiters at the restaurants loved serving her because she didn't know you don't have to tip wait staff here like in the U.S, it is built into their pay. The reason Days, Y&R and B&B were so popular was because they were the only U.S soaps we got with any regularity. GH was popular in the 80's but relegated to a 5am timeslot (like AW) around the 90's. Then they started a Soap/Talk channel in the mid 90's and showed GL, AMC and others that had never been or were rarely shown here. The other big problem was B&B was moved from a daytime slot to a late afternoon slot around 1998 or so and had to be edited to fit a G rated timeslot. I hated it when Shiela left and they cut most of her confrontation with Stephanie out, B&B was more popular because it was never pre-empted and we went from about 6 months behind to only a few weeks behind. Also though many complained about the timeslot change, the show must have benefited from it. But that is for another thread.

Didn't Eileen Davidson return while Cole and Ashley were still together, I seem to remember it that way, and I disliked them even then. I don't think the Cole/Ashley pairing was a good idea regardless of who was playing them. I wish that Brad and Ashley had stayed together, though at some point they made that couple rather boring, though I liked Don and Eileen together, apparently they dated for a while in the late 80's or early 90's. They had good chemistry.

Not having seen that when it aired, I can't say personally, but from what I understand the lead up and shooting were applauded, but the ending was a complete let down, an anti-climax. I will look through some SOD issues from 1986 and see if I can find something about it. It seems Bill Bell was more interested in character development and a lot of these mysteries were more focused on the characters, most of the stories Paul Raven mentioned were by the numbers or just very simple whodunnit mysteries. I will say the Cassandra Rawlins story had its moments of tension and suspense. Bell's forte was relationships and issues oriented stories, ones that developed a character. Most of the stories mentioned, including Jill's shooting, had ramifications for a number of characters, some that went on for years after the original story ended. Bell was very good at having one story affect many others.

I was only 10 around the time David tried to kill Nina and Co. It was pretty scary at the time, though some elements I found laughable, even as a 10 year old. Some of the ways David dreamed of killing people were a bit cartoonish. Being more critical now, I would say that his return didn't live up to the climax of his story with Nina when she found out about everything and shot him. There wasn't as much tension, it was more action than suspense. Even the costume ball where everyone got "shot" was a bit of a let down. David was a bit over the top as far as villains go, but he still scared the crap out of me 20 years ago.
