  1. I would like to ask about episode guarantees. Were these a thing? If so did all contract cast get episode guarantees, or only those that negotiated them I think Susan Lucci had this too at one point. I remember reading her scene were always done early in the morning/day Also pretty sure Susan Flannery had a directing clause built into her contract at B&B as well at some point, but I am not sure. Anyone know about that?
  2. When Gisele McKenzie subbed for Jeanne Cooper she got a special credit after all the contract cast The role of Kay Chancelor played this week by Gisele MacKenzie Not sure if this was an agreement or just out of respect for her, but I don't think any other sub actor got this, at least during Bell's tenure. In terms of Eric I agree, it could not have been during Bell's run. Not even Lauralee got to dictate story, whether Bell featured her a lot or not. She did what she was told as they all did, even lines as written. As Doug Davidson said, if it ain't on the page it ain't on the stage. Melody Thomas Scott often had her wardrobe credited - Pea in the pod or something. Might have been during her pregnancies but I don't remember Up to 1982 Y&R credits were not alphabetical as far as I can tell and only featured those in the episode, not sure how they worked that out
  3. No worries. I should be able to start on those today or tomorrow.
  4. It is interesting to see where this story was going before Bell decided to extend it another six months or so. In the summer, Paul seemed to be pretty sure George killed himself to frame him and you can see it was going to wrap up soon. Then we get another six months with Cassie and Adrian. btw I looked at the icon/avatar and was like did Lauralee Bell start a Y&R youtube channel? lol
  5. In the early days stories were realistic. That is, the stuff that happened in soaps could and did happen in real life, just not to the same group of people with all the twists and turns. Though I have heard real life stories that rival any soap. GH was the first turning point with the whole Ice Princess stuff in the early 80's (Was there a story before that that was a bit whacky?) but most of the soaps managed to adapt and still keep a somewhat realistic tone, or at least balance things out. In 1995 JER's DOOL/MP and even the OJ Simpson trial took soaps to a place that they have neve recovered from. The wacky, campy and down right insulting stories caused soaps to lose whatever small amount of respect they had gained and many of them became a circus and soon it was clones, possessions, unabortions, evil twins and a myriad of so many other things I can't keep track. Demo chasing became more of a thing than it had ever been and execs were bending over backward to capture that audience. Problem is young audiences can be fickle and when the fun stops, they head for the hills. Soaps should have continued chasing a similar audience it had always gone after. Stats show more women between 2000 - 2005 were choosing not to enter the work force than previously (in effect the start of millennial gen coming of age) had been. Recording options were in abundance and the ability to build and maintain an audience was there. There is a reason ratings were tanking and it wasn't just a sign of the times. TPTB had no idea what they were doing and the old guard was being tossed aside for creatives that in many cases had never worked in daytime before. Your fave show may have still had its good moments, but for me, the more I look back, the more I realise soaps were done in 1995. I held on another 10 years and haven't watched since. 2001/02 may have been the absolute death knell as I can't watch anything from any soap past that point.
  6. It's so frustrating to see Amy go. I love Olivia, but having Dru be a long lost sister to Amy that the family never talked about and utilizing the already long history of Amy and Nathan, not to mention Frank Lewis, would have been so awesome. We saw Loretta so little that the same tension between Dru and Loretta could have been used. I guess that would have left Mamie out in the cold though, although the show retconned relationships all the time. So I guess Bell could have still had Mamie be Amy and Dru's aunt and the show could have gotten away with it. Then again having Dru and Olivia and keeping Amy as well was still a great option too.
  7. So I have decided to start a tumblr. I am going to upload all of Jon-Michael Reed's columns and recaps, as well as Lynda Hirsch and anything else soap related I come across. Also any scans I eventually get done of the 70's soap magazines will go there too as well as (I hope, lol) the remaining SOD 90's mags that I have. I figured it is easier than opening several threads here. I put together a very basic one that I might redesign as I go along. Here is the link https://thesoapsofyesterday-blog-blog.tumblr.com Give me a few days to start uploading stuff, I will probably just send a message once I have started putting things up, but it will be slow. Very slow, haha So happy to get more 1988. So awesome, thankyou
  8. No worries. I just tried to upload a few to a new thread and it wouldn't let me. They are jpg files. Does anyone know how to contact admin and ask if there is some way to fix this. I don't want to put them in the vault as they are all soaps and not just Y&R, but if there is no fix I might just have to do that.
  9. I have uploaded all the 1986 cast charts to the vault. I did some reformatting and fixed some errors. I also decided that subs would be moved and combined with the contract player. So for example Brenda D and Deb Adair will be together and listed based on their combined appearances as Jill. JUst gives a better idea of how much the character was on for the month and I did the same with Gisele and Jeanne and Terry and Brett. On to finishing 1987. I also have the Jon-Michael Reed / Nancy Reichardt (she took over May 86 when JMR passed) newspaper recaps from post Mar 1983. So I will begin to upload those soon as well. I also have Lynda Hirsch as well, but hers are more confusing. While both published recaps on a Friday. JMR must have gotten synopsis from the networks or production companies as his are Mon-Fri. Lynda most likely watched and recapped, so hers seem to be Thu - Wed. If you want me to post them I will, but it often makes things confusing.
  10. The one I am thinking of (and it was several) was when Nikki told Kevin that Victor was the baby's father so he would reconcile with Carolyn. There were at least three or four episodes online from that time period. But this was early days of youtube and I didn't know how to save them
  11. I do remember the full version of Jill and Katherine's confrontation about the pictures from Jan 84 being online a very long time ago, and it was better picture quality too, and a few other things were floating about at one point, but I do not remember full episodes from that era. Though I do remember episodes from when Nikki was pregnant being about, a few of them, but that may have been well over 10 years ago, when I had no clue how to save them
  12. I just saw him in the Dec 24 ep and it is definitely him. But if anyone diagrees, let me know
  13. Hey I am doing the 1986 cast charts and there are no credits for Dec 86. Does anyone know who played George Flint, the son of Nellie (the woman from the homeless shelter)? I thought it might be Jerry Ayres who also played Conway Weston on B&B. Sometimes it looks like him and sometimes not, but definitely so similar that I am fairly certain One is from the Y&R ep with George and the other a general headshot of Jerry
  14. @BoldRestless Thankyou and the anon angel for all these. It is so appreciated to have these. Thankyou again
  15. Thankyou so so much Bundy1965 for uploading all the German eps including going back and doing 1986 and adding in the German eps that were missing such as Feb 24 and others. Very appreciated. This allows me to complete the 1986 cast charts which I will have up soon as well as the remainder of 1987
  16. I just looked at those GH German eps they span Feb 19, 1980 - Sep 15, 1980. Pretty awesome. In the comments they said they have more of 80-81. So maybe they will upload more
  17. Interesting - Drew Pilsbury's last episode is Nov 11 1986 and Corbett's first ep is Nov 14 1986. Drew was definitely on set of Who's That Girl? (then called Slammer) in Sep/Oct 1986. Y&R may have been around a month ahead in production or Pilsbury may have gone back and forth to New York. Deborah Adair looks like she is playing the hell out of Jill. ETA: My mistake I looked up the production notes for the Madonna movie, it started Oct 27, 1986 in New York. Makes sense now.
  18. Woohoo, anything is good, though getting November and seeing Deb Adair subbing and Michael Corbett's first ep would be good too 😀 He does appear Dec 2 from what I have looked through so far. So at least I know the article I had was way off, lol A folder for November has just been added. If this is Bundy1965, thankyou so much. If not thankyou to the anon person. So great to be getting more eps
  19. When Ashley found out she was pregnant she went to tell Victor but overheard Casey telling Victor about Nikki's terminal illness, she didn't want to split up that family with Nikki dying. She decided not to be a single mother and didn't want to raise the baby with another man (Matt offered) and had an abortion. Matt told Victor but he was too late to stop her. He confronts her in November 1986, we don't have those episodes but the scenes are part of the clips from 1986 in the vault. Ashley didn't tell him why she had the abortion and subsequent breakdown until May 87 when she went to the ranch and they had that big talk just as Nikki found out she was in remission and saw them together and decided to continue faking her illness, assuming once she told Victor he would go back to Ashley.
  20. Thanks for the Leo sighting, yeah must be one of his last. The woman Danny is speaking to I think is his agent or manager. I never got a credit for her so I didn't add her to the non contract section, but I think her name was Terri and she had a crush on Danny. I am pretty sure she did appear in Dec 86 as well. If I ever find out who she is I willl add her and redo the cast chart for that month or months Lol Terry looks like he wants to kill someone for having to do that promo and Brenda looks like she is having the time of her life, haha. Never knew she did one of these promos. I never liked them and when I was younger felt bad for anyone who had to do them, lol
  21. Thankyou @BoldRestless and to the anon angel helping bring us these episodes. Anyone else notice in the scene with Brenda and Jerry in the Feb 26 ep, he pushes her out the door so fast even the camera can't keep up.
  22. Oh right, I totally forgot, as I was going to ask here about it. Thanks for that ETA: I added those and redid the May 87 as I also left off Hugh McPhillips May 1 appearance as well. Just called it May 1987 non contract redux
  23. I created a new folder called files-images-scans in the Y&R folder. All in there. I probably should have created another folder called cast charts, but I don't think I can move them now. Jan-May 1987 is there. Now working on Summer 87
  24. Ah yes it probably does have to do with that. I will put them in the vault instead
