  1. The description of Julie being sensuous is always how I think of her from that period.  Bell wrote Lori on Y&R in a similar manner.  I was disappointed with Susan's material at Y&R.  Supposedly, Bell created the role of Stephanie on B&B with Susan in mind but she turned it down because she wanted to go back to Days.  I guess it would have been better for her career if she had accepted it.

They've had the real recordings on the show of popular songs of 1975 lately. The Carpenters' "Only Yesterday" played as Alan was thinking of Toni. John Lennon's "Bless You" was playing on Stacy's record player as she and Rico prepared to, ahem, play some "fun and games".

Speaking of Stacy, that character has rocks for brains. It's a good thing she's an art student and not a med student. I wouldn't trust that flake with a paintbrush, much less a scalpel. 😨

They also played the theme from "Summer of '42" under one of the Mike and Toni scenes.

  3. The Pollocks have made almost every character unlikeable.  I also didn’t enjoy their obsession with the character of Nick, which still isn’t over, six months after Gerald Gordon left.  Nick could do no wrong in their eyes, no matter how violent, uncaring, and/or misogynistic his behavior.

Not really, except for his troubles when his arm was temporarily paralyzed. Their wedding was off-screen, but they did get some pretty racy honeymoon scenes!! I'm still shocked that the green speedo Palmer Deane (Hank) wore got past the NBC censors of 1974!!

In any case, I believe the Iversons stay on until 1976. I read in an old SOD synopsis that Hank had accepted a position in Boston.

I seem to recall that Lauri left town before Hank did.  I can't remember the circumstances though.

Matthew Tobin was a lot of fun, I will say, for the examples you just provided. There was a photo from the show's 12th anniversary party in 1975, with David O'Brien holding both Liz Hubbard's son and Matthew Tobin's daughter. Glad to see that the kids got along much better than their parents' characters did!! 😊

I read a sad story about his wife.  He was appearing in 42nd Street in 1984, while she was being treated for cancer.  She died while he was performing and he didn't learn of it until after the show ended.

The Iris/Rex story was pure camp. Thank goodness it's over!!

I enjoyed Rex though, especially his digs at "you people" at "Hope Memorial Prison."  His ending kind of fizzled out though.  LH tried to out-camp Matthew Tobin on several occasions but she was wasting her time.  He even bit his fist when Rex was panicking.

I hear you. The only role I've seen her in is Tracy, but from what I've heard of her other roles she was either the ice queen and or/the cougar. No one seemed willing to cast her against type. Having said that, I can't imagine anyone else playing Felicia Gallant but Linda Dano. As Stephen Schnetzer said, she WAS the part.

Jane played Carrie Todd as very warm, sweet, and wholesome, almost to the point that it annoyed me (until we learned about her other personalities), lol.  I think Angelica on Days had a similar persona to Felicia Gallant.  But I did love Linda Dano.

  8. Based on an interview with Bethel Leslie from when she was writing for The Secret Storm, I got the impression that Bethel Leslie was let go after she took time off to do the movie.  She said she was told that Maggie was going to be killed off.

I had no idea archive.or even existed. Thanks for the info. I do wish they had issues going up into the 1970s, but I'm certainly happy too see anything available!

It also has some old soap books, e.g., Soap World by Robert LaGuardia, etc.  You have to have an account and check those out digitally, but all they ask for is an e-mail and password.  It's linked with openlibrary.org.  The books can be read on a computer but I have an app called Digital Editions, that enables me to download it on my ipad.

    "Minipoo"?

What an...unfortunate name, like the diet product AYDS from years ago.

I love, love, love vintage movie magazines for this very reason: the fun articles and ads you find.

I could read them all day.

I just wish I could afford to buy more mags, but they are so often quite expensive on eBay.

Archive.org has a lot of old Photoplay and Radio TV Mirror magazines.  1963 seems to be the most recent ones.  That's where I found this one.
