  1. I made the mistake of checking out SB’s Instagram. He had a hideous Jesus tattoo alongside some others on a sleeve on his arm. This whole thing (GH firing, the wife) reeks of midlife crisis to me. I try not to be super judgmental but could he be any more basic white man his age going through something?
  2. In all my years of soap viewing, nobody ate show like they did on ABC in the 2000’s. OLTL tried very hard to be more of an ensemble at times, probably because Frons paid less attention to them. GH- nothing has ever been as dreadful as the quad of Sonny/Carly/Jason/Michael. I don’t think even baby Steven Lars was as important to plot as Michael was. And these are all characters I have liked at times. But no soap should have characters on this much! Special mention also to Courtney, who dominated that show almost from her first day. And Dante! AMC- Ryan Lavery. Again, a character I have enjoyed, but he was just used way too much during their last decade.
  3. Truly sad news. Clint was one of those roles that always seemed so singular to the original actor that I was surprised how much I loved him on OLTL. I came to his better days as Ross long after GL was cancelled, but he really had a sparkle there. You could tell he relished playing characters that had intelligence.
  4. Shocked nobody had mentioned Buzz on GL yet.
  5. The sprawling cast is getting ridiculous. We have people like Brando and Sasha who are barely there, Finn who is purposeless, and Liz who is in a story that is moving too slow. Not because they are pacing it out and covering all the beats- they don’t do that anymore. Chase and Brooklyn are barely on compared to where their story was. There are so many people just there, with bits and scenes but no actual stories. And we keep adding!
  6. When the show was more balanced I loved Sonny. This is a great clip demonstrating Sonny’s issues with vulnerability and Brenda’s desperation to have him. Was this the tail end of Labine or was a Guza there? I can’t remember when this happened.
  7. I love vets. Always have. But this cover is pretty indicative to me in where these shows went wrong and why the genre is dying. None of these people is involved in anything showcasing deep emotion, or innovation. It’s just the same older characters stuck in stories that they have well past aged out of, instead of something deeper for all of them. And again- I love characters like Marlena. But it’s just bad and there is no future here IMO.
  8. All jokes aside- this is a terrible idea on many fronts. To think I once truly enjoyed RC’s work at OLTL and his first couple of GH years. This is just hackery.
  9. According to DA- Bill Bell was busy trying to get Y&R prepped, he had focused a lot of story on her, and needed time to figure out where he wanted Susan to go next while letting other stories take center stage. While that was happening her contract expired, and they all decided to negotiate again in good faith once things had settled a bit. ABC found out and offered her a lot more money, originally to come in as a doctor they were testing with Steve Hardy but didn’t really have an actual character for her (which is why Lesley’s backstory is so convoluted). They just wanted her star power. Betty Corday told her to accept the deal as it was not something they would be able to match. She described them as lovely people. I can see why she was never brought back- once PFS left the first time, the show moved away from most of those Bell characters and stories. Then by the time she was free again, DAYS was firmly infested with the Brady family, and Doug and Julie were gone. They were not really investing in characters like Susan Hunter anymore, especially at her age. What I always wondered was why Bell never used her again. I could see her as a foil for Stephanie, possibly as the Logan matriarch pretty easily. He seemed to love writing for her if her DAYS experience is any indication.
  10. A ONS that drive story for decades. But never in the way I wanted it to lol. The one story turn by Culliton that Bob Guza loved! Easily! You know, Tony is one of those characters I did not really enjoy all that much. He always came off as sanctimonious and judgmental to me. I liked his slow descent, I just wish Guza had also invested in building him back up again. And from what I recall, he was almost fired a couple of times. Monty was going to get rid of him and fan reception saved his job.
  11. I agree, the only truly consensual relationship she had with the Cassadines was with Stefan. Her fear of Stavros in her 1983 return, her emotional breakdown at GH in 1996 just after Nikolas arrived and she thought Lulu was missing, and every reaction to him after his resurrection paints a pretty clear picture that she was terrified of him, and of what happened to her.
  12. We already know they think the audience won’t notice details- we are on our 3rd Howarth character and our 600th Easton character in a decade.
  13. Talk about having a blind spot. I had blocked it out so much I just thought who is Silas? Lol. I feel bad for all the women Frank has foisted his pets on, but that is also a lot of heavy lifting for CD’s Michael.
  14. I didn’t mind it back then, but now it’s giving me Kate Jackson on Charlie’s Angels vibes, and not in a good way.
  15. I watched ATWT off and on sadly after it’s glory days. But In every scene Kim was in there was almost always a vitality mixed with a very grounded person, even with the most mundane scenes. Her talent was not utilized to its full potential during those years. But she left me wanting more. A lot of these shows had veteran players that they didn’t utilize well. And sometimes it made sense- the actor’s health or limitations. But I never felt that from Hays (or really anyone on ATWT). She had something special.
  16. Another absolute legend is gone. Sad for her family and fans.
  17. I’m almost done catching up, but last night I watched two episodes from the end of March while I was working on a project. I didn’t FF at all, and I found myself rolling my eyes and saying ridiculous and oh brother out loud several times during the episode with Sonny at the bar with Nina. Just awful. I can’t believe how much I have to FF of them to make the show palatable! The next episode had plenty of stuff going on I could care less about, but the performers are at least engaging enough that I was mostly silent and stopped to watch. I think Ava has more than outlasted her usefulness, but I would take her and Portia at a table talking any day over Nina and Sonny and those 45’s.
  18. I would love for the round hub of the old Nurses Station (Monty era through first few years of Riche) if we have sets there. Marland’s ATWT’s bibles would be fun to have access to. The killer puppet from Edge of Knight! A hall of twins would be hysterical, as it is such a specific and often mocked trope of Soap Operas.
  19. I think he is absolutely adorable. I liked him on Knots Landing as well. He brings a lot of personality to his characters, and a sense of being a decent guy. I mean the show still has a Cassadine contingent but only Laura who isn’t even a Spencer anymore (but always will be I guess). It’s wild to me. And I am perfectly fine with Luke being gone. But I think Lulu and Lucky should be there. A job is just waiting for her with Alexis at The Intruder! I do want JMB though, or a new recast. But if Lucky comes back, how will Frank use Liz to prop one of his friends?
  20. Add me to the list of TC fans as young Nikolas. I also liked him later, but he very clearly does phone it in if he doesn’t like the material. Great casting, as we got to know him we got to see many similar emotional traits as Laura. It was kind of cool that Lucky was very much Luke’s son, and Nikolas was very much his mother’s son. I also like MC, but he really only comes to life lately in scenes with his son. I would love for Laura to have a Christmas episode just one more time with TC, JJ, and JMB there as Nikolas, Lucky, and Lulu. They really fit well as a family.
  21. Sad news, the love and devotion was so clear. How sad for Susan and the family.
  22. I got the impression when Brenda returned that Guza had clearly decided it was Sonny/Carly as the long term goal. Now admittedly they did not have Vanessa on a long contract. But the writing felt skewed to me. And the baby stuff with Sam- I have read it was going to bring Jason and Brenda together as an actual couple. Also- not to let him off the hook for his writing errors, but didn’t Guza take an extended leave of absence around the time the show fell apart? He was still in the credits, but not at the show. I think his child died.
  23. Truthfully I don’t think back on any of that fondly. A real strange period of Y&R. That was not a successful story IMO.
  24. I think if more people were working on the show from those more classic eras, maybe. But these are not those days, and I highly doubt anyone even thought of Mary Jo, or at least thought about it as a serious nod. It’s pretty clear to me with the Kyle connection it was always Diane.
