If you get a chance to watch, the January 1986 episode is especially good - lots of Vicky and Marley (and even Vicky playing Marley), good work from Robert Lupone (Neal being yet another squandered character...AW had so many), and wonderful work from Doug Watson and Irene Dailey, with Liz's love and idealization of Mac being as heartbreaking as ever. It's too bad so much of this would be eviscerated with yet another overhaul, although the show would have had to make huge changes with Ellen Wheeler leaving anyway.- The Politics Thread
Shameless. Put this out just when Trump needed the momentum and Republicans needed help keeping the Senate. Now deny days before, where it can easily be dismissed as some pressure move from the Clintons. I think Hillary win narrowly win and would have even without this latest clearing, but it means she's far more likely to have an extremist Congress making sure she can get nothing done. It's a great way to help this country burn. It's shameful.- Another World Discussion Thread

November 28 and December 2 1996.- The Politics Thread
You don't have to tell me anything. You're free to put me on ignore if you wish. I'm just giving my opinion that I feel like he has momentum and even if he doesn't, the media is making sure people think he does, likely to help depress Democratic turnout. I've heard about the higher Latino vote turnout, yes, and I've heard about the concerns about depressed voter turnout with other groups, which I thought was getting better, and yet yesterday or early today I ended up seeing articles saying Democrats are still worried about it. So it seems like a mixed picture. Right now I'd say she will win narrowly, with Republicans sweeping downticket races. I just don't really know where the race is because so many want him to win, from Russia, to the FBI, to the press, and I'm used to a lot of Republicans falling in line and independent voters buckling to fear, while Democrats are more hesitant. Hopefully that won't be true this time around. It's just that we're still hearing in the last days before voting about more polls going his way, his moving into more safe blue states, etc. It gives me bad flashbacks to years like 2000 where even with Gore winning the popular vote, the rig came in for W and Karl Rove.- The Politics Thread
I don't think they're representative of the American people - I do think they set the narrative that can affect votes and depress turnout. I mostly follow sites like TPM and Politico, and they've shown tightening polls in MI, NH, etc. with some states or reports that suggest Clinton or a toss-up (FL, NV, NC). I don't bother with CNN, as they're in the tank for Trump. But I was going off that post soapsuds made which suggests they're pushing hard that he's going to win MN and MI, and combined with some of the polls for MI it made me wonder more about the momentum shift toward him in the final days.- The Politics Thread
Are there any polls from MN? Zucker loves Trump so he'd love to help him win Miinnesota with fawning coverage, and it's a state that is predominantly white, which could also help him. I wonder if Trump going there is more of a head game than anything else though. It gives me bad memories of 2000 when W was doing the same in places like California. The Supreme Court made sure he won. I hope that doesn't mean the rig is in for Trump as well. Momentum does seem to be very much going Trump's way. I hope the early vote and Obama and others working so hard to motivate voters will be enough. The Senate is likely already gone, which is bad enough, but a GOP Congress and Trump would be hell beyond telling.- The Politics Thread
I keep seeing this narrative that black voters aren't turning out (yet these articles don't mention voter suppression). I don't know how much is true and how much is the media wanting to pit groups against each other if Trump wins as they are likely hoping. http://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/barack-obama-trump-un-american-inhuman-230753 http://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/hillary-clinton-detroit-detour-230771- The Politics Thread
That's awful - especially the part with knocking him out. And Trump Jr is the one the media kept saying would be a political dynamo someday. Pretty good article about Hillary. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/11/2016-longreads-election-hillary-rodham-clinton-first-woman-president-214416- The Politics Thread
I don't think they personally would want to hang around Trump, but I think they see the Clintons as old, tired, and aloof, and Trump and his insanity as fresh (and ratings). There's a real glee when they talk about negative stories for Hillary while with Trump they're often more guarded and regretful. It's only surrogates who are allowed to be outspoken in belittling Trump, and even that's limited, as some networks happily employ people who work for his campaign.- The Politics Thread
Pretty close. I guess that's why they're putting money back in the last two. I don't know PPP's lean though. It seems like most states are breaking his way. I hope that will stop by Tuesday.- The Politics Thread

I have a feeling he's going to end up like Hoover, and stay no matter what. I don't read much New Republic these days but I was looking at a review of Doctor Strange and saw this. I'm glad someone said it - essentially, so much of the blame for this election year and the worst to come next year is the fault of Democrats who stayed home. https://newrepublic.com/article/138293/democratic-voters-blame-hillary-clintons-headaches- The Politics Thread

TPM's election observations - in their opinion, the minority vote is rebounding for Clinton in FL and NC, but voter suppression tactics have worked wrt early voting and while he thinks Clinton will win, he has no basis beyond gut feeling; polls and demographics suggest Trump is likely to win NH; the ground game suggests Clinton will likely win NV unless the reports are wrong; Clinton having her last rally in PA doesn't mean that she thinks she will lose the state, but that she knows the race will be close nationally. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/election-observation-potpourri-2- Bravo's The Real Housewives of....

Is it the job of a president, or his family, to go around saying someone needs a bullet? What does that inspire in his supporters, especially those supporters who see many others (not Duke or those with Duke's views) as Nazis? All they will hear is the "deserves a bullet" part.- The Politics Thread
North Carolina was seen as slowly becoming more progressive until about 2010, when the "tea party" movement (breathlessly pushed by an adoring media who never stopped reminding voters that these were all everyday citizens who just wanted to save Americans money and had no other motivations whatsoever) defeated rusty and in some cases corrupt Democrats and took over the state legislature. They gerrymandered their way into permanent dominance. The governor, an unpopular Democrat, chose not to run again, so a Republican (breathlessly hyped by the media as a "moderate") won. They quickly made North Carolina a complete hate state, and blackened the image of the state to many around the country and the world. And sadly if polls are any indication they will be rewarded for it by being kept in office. Over and over these bigots are rewarded by voters, no matter what they say or do.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
That's great. I know he was in one of those Western musicals (Annie Get Your Gun or whatever) a few years ago. I wish he got more work. I still miss Carl. Isn't Sheena supposed to be...difficult?- The Politics Thread
David Duke is a vile human being but that the son of a major Presidential candidate is casually saying he deserves "a bullet" is chilling. This ticket seems to have dropped any pretense of not being fascistic in every way. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/david-duke-deserves-bullet-eric-trump- The Politics Thread
North Carolina Republicans are such disgusting people, especially this man, who has a real history of horrible actions as NC GOP leader. I really really really wish they would get swept out of NC this year. Ian Lavender will be making a short return as Derek Harkinson. Derek was on the show in the early '00s as Pauline's close friend. He was also a father figure to a very out of control Martin. This was likely done to give the family an older male figure while honoring Wendy Richard's wishes about not marrying again (Derek was gay). After he was fired the character was all but forgotten, so I'm glad he will be back for a story with Martin. http://www.rte.ie/entertainment/2016/1103/828994-dads-army-star-lavender-set-for-eastenders-return/- The Politics Thread
I'm pretty frightened by what's going to happen at that point, whoever wins. I want this over but I think the real [!@#$%^&*] is going to start then, especially lunatics on the streets. - Another World Discussion Thread
