All My Children Tribute Thread
Silver was insecure about her boyfriend Jeremy's feelings for Natalie. Erica encouraged Silver to scheme (she did not know just what Silver would be doing). Silver began stalking Natalie, who was still traumatized from her rape. Natalie bought a gun and shot an intruder, who turned out to be Silver dressed up in black (I think). Palmer helped her cover up the killing - I think a condition being she had to get involved with him. When the truth came out, Palmer went to prison for a while. Silver was a bust, but I don't think there was any reason to kill her off. I wonder if this was another scab writer decision. @vetsoapfan will remember in more detail but I believe it was said a source of tension between Reinholt and Rauch/Lemay was that in Nixon's version of the story, Steve had no family - they were all dead. When Emma arrived, Steve revealed to Alice that he had lied about his family because he wanted to move away from his poor background. The only reason I remember anything about Betsy is because back in the day we were confused about whether Carla Dragoni was in an Intervention episode about a former actress with severe alcohol issues.

That's so true, and such a poignant story. Quinn, and Petronia, also fit AW so well - that's how the character survived as long as she did through so many regimes. Much as I enjoyed her time at GL, I would have traded that for her getting to be on AW longer with some writers who might have tried to use her.

DAYS: Vet out!
Not my quote, but I agree - Susan, Peter Reckell and Wayne Northrop were my first thoughts. All biggest for the show than Eileen Davidson was.

Hasn't DAYS always done this?

There was a letter in SOD after Quinn was murdered, from a very upset fan. The response was, basically, that AW had no idea the character had any fans. This is something that popped up again and again with P&G soaps.

The Media/Journalism Thread
You may remember the years of hubbub surrounding Crazy Days and Nights, a salacious gossip blog with a mysterious owner, a site which, for some reason, had longstanding rumors claiming said owner was RDJ. The real "Enty" was exposed last year, via a lawsuit more interesting than anything ever on the blog itself. https://www.thedailybeast.com/crazy-days-and-nights-blogger-unmasked-as-john-nelsonby-ex-mistress-cassandra-crose

There was so much elitism and patronizing attitude from soap execs who were soon eaten by the same leopards they had assumed existed for their benefit. This is when they were banking on Passions due to the idea of young demos saving them - I can't even remember how long Lee was still working at NBC Daytime through that show's lifespan. I never believed that younger viewers avoided soaps because they didn't want to see older people, and I never will. (AW also had younger characters heavy in story for much of its run)

I wonder if they are still smarting from Bari Weiss making so much money from martyring herself over her colleagues not kissing her ass often enough. The bigoted obsessions of "respectable" columnists and journalists has done so much damage.

https://www.axios.com/2024/02/07/nikki-haley-nevada-primary-trump-2024 Nikki Haley lost to, essentially, "I don't like any of these people." (Trump is only competing in the Nevada caucus, which he will easily win) I despise Trump, but Nikki Haley is no better. Seeing her completely fail and keep failing before she inevitably drops out in a few weeks and pledges eternal loyalty to Trump (again) is a brief moment of amusement. This is even more amusing after NBC and SNL humiliated themselves (again) by having her do an excruciating and oddly lengthy cameo on the most recent episode where she and their resident Trump roasted each other.

Thanks. I'll always enjoy her work as Fallon. I wish someone would interview her about her TV-movies or the episode of SNL she hosted.

I don't blame you there - I'm just not even going to assume anything can be done with that clump.- GH: Surprise Announcement!?

One of the articles claims that Murphy had no real involvement in the production, but it seems to have some of his usual themes, like I watched one of those cast game videos, and he shows up halfway through the video, which I don't see producers do that often in these. I did like Yes, Dear, for a few years anyway, but I remember how often the show was thrown around. Ditto for Rules (I never watched that show). I remember a lot of talk at the time of how much they clearly wanted rid of the shows, especially Rules, which for years just kept getting brought back midseason because CBS had so many comedy flops.- All My Children Tribute Thread
Thanks. I think it was uploaded on an old account that put up several AMC and OLTL episodes from this timeframe, but as that account is long gone I'm glad someone reuploaded.- Tank Jobs and Sabotage
Now that you mention this it reminds me of Mork & Mindy. Wasn't that moved around a lot, with a second season choice that basically sealed its fate? I don't think it would have lasted much longer than it did anyway - I think only the chemistry between Pam Dawber and Robin Williams kept the show working, along with Williams' heavy (at times too heavy) star power - but it didn't help. I agree with you about Kate & Allie. The show was genuinely very good up to its last season or two, and even with the tinkering and cast departures, was never bad (nothing against the guy Allie married but I do think he clearly stuck out like a sore thumb - and it seemed like he was written out for half of the final season).- Knots Landing
I don't mean to nitpick, but the Variety obit said that Don had a recurring role on Knots Landing. I suppose he did in his last few episodes, but not his first two seasons. I'm not sure if it has been corrected, but it's always sad to see these simple mistakes get through in respectable publications now.- Tank Jobs and Sabotage
Thanks @Errol . I do remember how much Cosby struggled initially, to the point of bringing in Phylicia Rashad and moving the show away from its original premise from the UK version (for Bill to be playing a real ass) - Doctor Who
