  1. Weird to imagine Conrad playing a bad guy. Why did they kill him? Did they not get the money, or did he know too much? It just sounds so gruesome.
  2. Thanks for all these details. I'd never heard of them being sisters - I guess the magazine made an error. What did you think of Wade's murder story?
  3. I guess one is missing? I didn't know that's how Wade left the show. Wow. That is extremely dark. I wonder how that played out onscreen. I hope people didn't see him being tortured or killed. The show at that point seems to have a very strong heart of darkness, if those clips of Eunice's murder are any indication. I didn't know about Tony's first marriage either. At least it had an uplifting ending. I didn't know Kathy and Jennifer were sisters. Were Nathan and Bud the first back from the dead stories on soaps?
  4. I don't remember hearing that. I hope it isn't true!
  5. It's very odd, reading in the '70s soap magazines, when Don Stewart (Mike Bauer) talks about finding the right woman and how he isn't sure he wants to get married. Then, somewhere around the middle of the decade, some of the soap magazines essentially call him out, and say they are pretty sure he has been married for a while and has a child. And after this, when he's interviewed, the whole single-right-woman thing is dropped altogether.
  6. I was hoping someone would read them. This was when AMC was on a high in quality and ratings and you can tell from some of the material. So many rich characters and such a modern style. I love the profile on Bonkers.
  7. A Daytime TV from 1977 mentions that Hugh Franklin (Dr. Charles Tyler, AMC) had to take time off due to a gall bladder attack during a vacation. Humphrey Davis took over as Charles until Hugh could return to the studio on April 11.
  8. Thanks for finding all of that. Fascinating. I think I've read a little about it but not in such detail. This is the top ten for the two weeks that ended March 19, 1972. 11.9 ATWT 41% 10.0 DAYS 34% 9.9 Edge of Night 34% 9.8 GH 32% 9.5 GL 33% 9.2 AW 31% 9.2 Doctors 32% 8.7 SFT 32% 8.3 Love Is Many S.T. 29% 7.8 Secret Storm 27%
  9. All I knew was that for a while she was credited as Colleen Zenk Crouch, which sounded a bit like a martial arts move.
  10. All the details on demos and the first or last airings is brilliant. I don't know how you find this stuff. I'd never heard of Magnificent Marble Machine.
  11. Both shows seem to be a bit of a back number in Australia now, from what I've read, but then I get the feeling they were usually more popular in the UK anyway. It does seem that H&A is now back over a million in Australia, which I guess is good?
  12. Thanks for reading. I didn't remember this was the troubled one until they mentioned the bullfighting. This seems like such an odd time for ATWT, although it sounds like they coped with the crazy, action adventure type stuff better than a lot of the P&G soaps did. The Gunnar/Barbara/James/Karen/etc. ground seems like an interesting mix. Gunnar doesn't come off like the typical ATWT leading man to me. I wonder what Marland would have done with him. Probably conflicts with Duncan. I always wonder why they thought giving Annie quads was a good idea.
  13. The ABC lineup was visibly struggling here. I never thought RH was that close to AMC and OLTL.
  14. This is from the April 1977 Daytime TV, the top ten soaps, taken from the last two weeks before they went to press. 10.0 ATWT 36% 9.1 AW 31% 8.8 GL 34% 8.4 Y&R 37% 7.9 SFT 32% 7.7 DAYS 28% 6.8 Doctors 26% 6.6 AMC 26% 6.4 OLTL 24% 6.5 RH 25% Most popular game shows 9.3 Match Game '76 30% 6.9 $20,000 Pyramid 25% 6.3 Wheel of Fortune 34% 6.3 Family Feud 24% 6.2 Price is Right 2 34%
  15. 3/22/88 SOD. I know that many love the Rauch era music cues. You might enjoy this.
  16. I appreciate how you're always able to answer these questions. It's sad that even though all of these episodes were kept, we will probably never see them. Here's a recap from the 3/22/88 Digest.
  17. Do you think they made a mistake killing Bill Foster off?
  18. I think you said before that this was down to some issues between Dorothy Green and Bell, or Conboy. Do you think they made the right decision killing her off, or did it hurt the story?
  19. Jennifer does seem very unique, especially since so much of her marriage seemed to involve health crises - she wanted to leave Stuart but then got cancer; Stuart was going to leave her but her heart condition made him stay. How long after he learned of this did she die? I think he left town after he and Leslie divorced, and he just left town on his own. I'm not sure. Was Deirdre Hall gone by this point? It seems like, from the recaps, it was a long, long goodbye.
  20. I get annoyed just reading about it, especially the part about Brad accidentally causing Leslie's miscarriage and Leslie having to keep quiet for his sake. It just seems a little heavy and silly.
  21. At the time I felt like there was often an implication that John wished Jack could be like Victor and he would have preferred someone like Victor as a son (although I guess Victor and John were around the same age).
