Thanks. I wonder if he was ever actually like this on the show. If he was, I guess he wasn't for long. It was interesting to read more about the Marler parents. Ross mentioned their mother a little when Ben Warren showed up. It sounds like the Dobsons were using Justin to give their opinion of the show.

I wonder if there's any contractual reasons for having certain episodes that only involve certain characters. Or if it's to give actors a break from the temperatures.

A number of people seem to, and then a lot of fans also seem to hate Andrea. He's been pretty horrible but the show still seems to be trying for a little ambiguity.

I like Andrea OK but I end up wondering how many will be rooting for the Governor.

I wonder if that was Canada. AW was very popular in Canada. I have one or two articles or photos I'm going to try to post soon. Great to hear that Thomas Ian Griffith and Mary Page Keller have broken into writing. I'm always fascinated by acting partners who become writing partners. The only other ones I can think of are Roger Newman (RIP) and Fran Meyers, although I don't even know if they had scenes together on GL. I know they didn't the way Griffith and Keller did.

OK. To be honest when I see a story where the person who is being bullied vanishes for long periods of time and the people who bullied her are frequently shown in sympathetic situations, I don't know what the show is doing. But that's a pet peeve of mine. If you're enjoying the show, I'm happy for you.

Hollyoaks: Discussion Thread
Before Brendan, Ste was a decent guy, a caring father. The violent and pathetically insecure Brendan was brought back through Brendan and the horrific "Stug" relationship. My main issue with Kevin and Maxine is the weak acting, but then, Kieron Richardson isn't so great these days either. I think the only person in the story who can sort of act is Emmett, and the guy who plays his father. HO also seems to have decided that it's great to tell stories about how bullies are sympathetic and nice, which, for some reason, every soap seems to tell. Any time I hear that a soap is going to tell a bullying story, I cringe.

I wasn't sure if that was Bridget or the magazine, but Robin would have been a great choice. Can you imagine her facing off with Judith McConnell? I'm glad you got a chance to read it.

They had a one-off after meeting in an airport, or something. There was zero reason for this other than John Paul and Ste sneering and bitching. Even more pathetic is that Ste rushed to find Brendan and declare his love right after Brendan punched him out again (he had to try to break Ste's jaw because then Ste would see that Brendan was not good enough for him...so noble!). The show does a shockingly poor job with gay characters.

The most entertaining thing about Ike Turner's last days in Chester is seeing the long, impassioned responses about why he deserved happiness while the "bad" people around him don't. I think my favorite is how Kevin (who is a boring, badly acted character, don't get me wrong) can never be forgiven for ruining Brendan's happiness! For all the talk of how breathtaking and beautiful Brendan's character arc is, they sure don't seem to want any other character to have that same arc. The story ends as it starts - garnering attention mostly because of an actor a lot of people want to have sex with. And with a brain dead twink with his mouth hanging open who is beaten black and blue as viewers cry over the beauty of it all. I don't really want to think about the message fans have taken about domestic violence due to this story.

The Politics Thread
Ohio senator Rob Portman, who was considered as one of Romney's VP choices and was at one time hyped as a 2016 contender, essentially puts that to bed with his announcement that he now supports gay marriage (his son is gay). http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2013/03/rob-portman-and-his-brave-gay-son.html What do we get in response? To the surprise of no one, the elites are OK, but the base shows us threats against his political career, and ugly slurs. And they also hide behind media darling Marco Rubio, who has always been happy to be anti-gay. http://www.politico.com/story/2013/03/gop-elite-embraces-portmans-gay-marriage-switch-88936.html?hp=t1 http://www.politico.com/blogs/politico-live/2013/03/nom-aide-attacks-portman-reversal-159445.html?hp=l1_b2 http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2013/03/15/mixed-gop-reaction-to-portmans-gay-marriage-shift/

All My Children Tribute Thread
1994-summer 1995 was the marriage, Del, the self-abortion reveal, the Senate race, Edmund's "death," and the infertility. Supposedly McTavish's stuff stopped in spring 1995, not sure though. I do wonder about that possibly being for Brooke, although the last thing Brooke needed was another baby story.

A teenage Maria got pregnant with Del's baby. He left, and she rode a horse very roughly to induce a miscarriage, then aborted her baby in the tub and buried in in the garden. I think? I don't know. She was then unable to conceive. That's always the darker side of McTavish. I wish someone had sat down with her long ago and begged her not to write baby death/infertility stories. They were her worst. It sucks because I liked some of her other work.

All My Children Tribute Thread
I think she had a fair amount of story for Edmund/Maria, but it was dark, dark, dark (self-abortions in the bathtub...love in the afternoon indeed). Everything after Del, the Senate race, and the infertility was Broderick.
