  1. Not that it would happen, but it would make me laugh if Pete also came back from the dead - didn't he have one of those weird offcamera deaths? Something about he was coming home because he and his girlfriend were supposed to be safe, but their car blew up?
  2. I read that too (about Dean). Wasn't it something about lines? Or jealousy of Leslie Grantham? I can't remember. NBA, Carty has a few credits in recent years, but not much. It's too bad that his last major role on British TV was being a big joke on Dancing on Ice. I do think they'd run out of material for Mark (all that time spent pining for sad, sad Lisa), but I agree killing him off was a copout. I wish they'd just let him move to the US to be with Michelle. The Fowlers needed a quiet-but-strong male presence, and Martin will never be it. When I first started watching Eastenders in the mid-90s, I thought he was hot. I didn't feel that way as much by the end (although he still looked decent enough), but that smirk on his face after he punches that [!@#$%^&*] Nick (who, oddly enough, suits that hairstyle quite well) - it brings it all back. You're right about Angie...although I wouldn't mind seeing Sharon confront her and Den in some dream scenario.
  3. That first one veers on the far side of parody (although Mark beating Nick's ass is pretty much perfect television) Whatever happened with Pete in his last years in Walford always creeps me out a little. He went from being a very real, believable man (and yes, Peter Dean couldn't act, but he still worked in the role of the meathead who tried but it was never enough) to being a game show presenter who got lost on the Square.
  4. Geez that other woman is irritating. What was that about her contract being renewed for three years? Was she joking?
  5. That would have been a really interesting idea. Born had had a small role on GL a few years earlier, but it still could have worked.
  6. There are some complete spring 1991 episodes being uploaded here now, along with some other things. https://www.youtube.com/user/thomas123853/videos
  7. Ignoring the Carter crap (although Maddy Hill is pretty good there) and the Charlie/Roxy trash, it's not too bad.
  8. It was nice to see Adam treated as one of the main faces for the 30th, especially as his role in the 25th mostly amounted to watching a home video with Dot and getting berated by Phil. Ian should be a central character to Eastenders, yet for whatever reason he often is treated as just the opposite.
  9. I wish the fans were as gracious as the producers... Adam Woodyatt also said Bill Roache contacted him to wish him luck.
  10. I couldn't tell from the article whether he was still on GH at the time. I guess he was - just confused by one of the early sentences. Beyond the future work in Star Wars, it's also oddly prescient in "geek culture," which only really started to tiptoe around the mainstream in the late '70s, and steadily increased with each decade. It's something I have almost never, ever seen discussed in soap magazines outside of this article. At this point in time soap actors were either talking about husbands/wives/babies, feminism, money saving tips for families, playing guitar, therapy, or the benefits of EST.
  11. Yeah - for some reason I thought he came back in late fall. I don't remember.
  12. Elsie was always a little more glam, at least by 60s standards (maybe because Corrie was never a particularly gritty soap in the '60s, at least in terms of hair and wardrobe - I'd say most of the women looked modest or plain, but they were still attractive). Bet often looked beautiful in the '70s but she was also rougher around the edges, so that is similar to Kat and Pat. I do think Elsie was much rougher in her last few years - I always remember that episode where her pickup's enraged wife trashed her flat while she was at work. Even now that is so stark, as was Pat's performance in the aftermath.
  13. That would be a nice touch. I wonder if they will recast Peter in a year or if they will just have Lauren come back on her own.
  14. It's been nice to see so much of Bernice this past week, as she's a terrific character with deeper ties to the canvas than she's given credit for, and Samantha Giles has a way with both comedy and subtle drama, as shown with Bernice's reactions to Andy's suicide attempt, and Gabby making it clear that she's horribly ashamed of her as a mother. Nicola Wheeler is a very similar actress in that she manages to wring pathos out of some pathetic moments for the character (like assuming that hot guy was hitting on her...only to learn he thought she looked like his mother). The show's really going to miss her in her absence. I've been really impressed with Kelvin Fletcher's work this week. I have a feeling they may have plans for Andy/Chrissie, but I'd be more interested in Lawrence developing (unrequited, obviously) feelings for him, especially as I think that would send Robert and Lawrence on a horrible, horrible crash collision.
  15. I just wish more of her first years were out to watch. I think there's an episode I watched a while back set during that horribly depressing "relevant" period with the producer whose name I can't remember, where Bet contemplates suicide and Eddie stops her. It's not really the type of thing Julie got very often, as they usually never took Bet down quite that far, but Julie was fabulous, and so heartbreaking and so tough in a way no woman had been on the show since Pat Phoenix's first few years as Elsie.
  16. He's 15 or 16. 16 is the age of consent in the UK. He's also a student, and John Paul will be his teacher soon.
  17. It's more of a big deal in recent years because we had a black President and they had a white guy in brownface play him. Add in the horrible treatment of women (which amounted to putting Kenan Thompson in a dress) and there was going to be a backlash.
  18. Above all else the show lost the opportunity to have Jamie torn between both families (as he should have been) and have a counterpoint to the Corys and something of a class system. This was a pet peeve of Lemay's (he later complained about how when he'd been a consultant at ATWT in the mid-90s, he'd told them it was ridiculous that three characters had private jets). Swajeski did bring in more Frames once Jason was gone (Frankie, Dean), but they always felt oddly upmarket, as did the brief Emma recast. I just never bought them as a family.
  19. John Paul found out Sinead had given Finn his phone number, because Finn wanted to talk to him. John Paul was disgusted and angry and nearly hired a hit man to kill Finn, before Trevor convinced him it was a bad idea. Anyway, Ste bought drugs and called John Paul begging him to stop a relapse. John Paul was about to go on an interview to get his old job back at school. He left the interview to help Ste; Patrick was furious and said he'd never work there again, or whatever. John Paul berated Ste for his selfishness and said the relationship was always about what Ste needed and wanted. He went out to the club and met Harry, not knowing who he was or how old he was. (there was some hilariously awful dancing with Theresa and John Paul that you may have to look for) They kissed. The next day John Paul was introduced to Tony's son and realized just who it was. Rumor has it they were going to have John Paul and Harry have sex, but edited that out due to backlash. Who knows.
  20. Day-time Stars September 1973
  21. The only time I can remember a show having a white woman converted to Islam was the store owner on Shameless...if I remember right, she was far more devout than her husband (a closeted homosexual), who was the reason she'd converted (of course they are now on Emmerdale and she works in his character's toffee factory - must be weird now to play scenes together).
  22. Yes. The music is dated, obviously, but I love the lighthouse shot.
