  1. Concluding its 15-season run last month, CBS’ “The Talk” averaged 1.319 million viewers during the week of December 16-20, 2024, marking its most-watched week of the 2024-2025 television season. According to figures released by Nielsen, the talk show’s final week averaged a mere 0.15 rating among Women 18-49, tying its second-lowest rating of the season. Additionally, among Women 18-49 viewers, “The Talk” averaged just 103,000 viewers in the key sales demographic, tying for its second-lowest performance of the season. Among Women 25-54, “The Talk” pulled in a 0.23 rating, on par with its performance one week prior (week of December 9-13, 2024). Meanwhile, among Women 25-54 viewers, the show attracted its third smallest audience of the season with just 145,000 viewers falling within the demo. Despite the low numbers among both demographics, “The Talk” still managed to outperform at least one other daytime broadcast program with “NBC News Daily” pulling in a 0.13 rating among Women 18-49 and a 0.21 rating among Women 25-54. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” / “NBC News Daily” ABC News / NBC News Although its performance during its final weeks on air was a far cry from the show’s earlier seasons, wherein it consistently gave “The View” a run for its ratings, “The Talk” still managed to outperform both “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “NBC News Daily” among both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 during the fourth quarter of 2024, even topping “NBC News Daily” among Total Viewers (1.240 million vs. 1.208 million). “GMA3: What You Need to Know” averaged 1.356 million viewers during the same period. Averaging 152,000 viewers among Women 25-54 for the quarter, “The Talk” beat out “NBC News Daily” (146,000 viewers) and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (147,000 viewers). Its lead among Women 18-49 viewers was much tighter as all three shows performed virtually on par with each other. “The Talk” pulled in 109,000 viewers in the demo while “GMA3” saw 108,000 viewers and “NBC News Daily” captured 105,000 viewers. For the season, “The Talk” averaged 1.240 million viewers compared to 1.353 million for “GMA3” and 1.208 million for “NBC News Daily.” As “The Talk” saw declining numbers throughout its 13th and 14th seasons, despite revamping its hosting lineup, CBS announced in April last year that it had decided to end the series, which replaced “As The World Turns” on the network’s lineup in 2010. Hosted by Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Sheryl Underwood, Jerry O’Connell and Natalie Morales, the 15th and final season of “The Talk” was executive produced by Robb Crabbe with Ianthe Jones serving as the show’s co-executive producer. The show was produced by CBS Television Studios. http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/media/2024/11/CBS-Beyond-The-Gates-Premeire-1024x576.jpg“Beyond the Gates” CBS The performance of “The Talk” during its final season is significant as it will help CBS determine the future success of its upcoming daytime drama series, “Beyond the Gates,” premiering Monday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT, with the first all-new network television soap opera to premiere in over 25 years taking over the timeslot previously held by “The Talk.” Note: The post Season 15 of ‘The Talk’ Concluded With Record Low Ratings appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 2. Linda Barker Laundra, best known for producing and directing hundreds of hours of daytime television, including “All My Children,” “Another World” and “Guiding Light,” has died. She was 79 years old. “So very sorry to report that Linda died at home Friday afternoon at 3:15,” shared Laundra’s husband, David, in a post on Facebook. “I was holding her hand when she took her last breath. No more pain. At peace now and forever more.” Last February, Laundra was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, most commonly known as bile duct cancer or liver cancer, which is a rare but aggressive type of cancer that forms in the bile ducts. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it often impacts adults in their 70s and generally spreads beyond the bile ducts by the time healthcare providers diagnose it. Laundra’s husband previously revealed that his wife had been placed in Home Hospice Care after having undergone months of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation treatments, while also participating in a drug trial, all of which proved unsuccessful. Before Laundra’s passing, a GoFundMe had been created to help cover the costs of her end-of-life care. Following her death, organizer Irene Burns updated the page, noting “David Laundra is so very grateful for your support. This fund is helping to lift a great burden from his shoulders.” At press time, just over $22,000 had been raised out of the $48,000 goal set with 105 donors. Born September 28, 1945 in Monroe Michigan, Laundra served as Artistic Director of the Writers Theatre, a theatre company she co-founded with her husband in New York. Some of their directing and producing credits include such plays as “The Gospel According to Mark Twain,” “My Own Stranger,” “The Overcoat,” “Anna, The Gypsy Swede,” “Resistance,” “and “The Day Jack London Got Pinched,” among others. http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/media/2005/09/all_my_children_01x3.jpg“All My Children” ABC Outside of the theatre, Linda’s career expanded when she took on producing and directing work for soap operas “Guiding Light,” “Another World” and “All My Children,” as well as the primetime drama “Homicide: Life on the Street.” Her credits also include the short film “Jean,” an adaptation based on the final chapter of Mark Twain’s autobiography, and “Minds Apart,” a short film based on works by Anne Sexton, which Laundra co-directed alongside her husband with contributions from their New York University film students. In 1995, Laundra received her first Daytime Emmy Award nomination as part of the directing team at “Another World.” Two years later, she received a nomination as a producer for “All My Children,” which had been nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. In 2017, Linda and David sat for an interview with Primary Stages, an off-broadway non-profit dedicated to inspiring, supporting, and sharing the art of playwriting as part of the organization’s oral history project. Check out clips from their interview below. Linda Laundra is survived by her husband, David, along with several family members including nieces Tammela Houser Gerber and Dixie Arnold, and nephew Paul Hinkley, among others. 3. Actor Francisco San Martin, best known for his portrayals of Dario Hernandez on “Days of Our Lives” and Fabian Regalo del Cielo on “Jane the Virgin,” has died. He was just 39 years old. Born August 27, 1985 in Majorca, Spain, and known to many as Pepe San Martin, a report filed by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner indicated the beloved actor died on Thursday, January 16 with the manner listed as suicide and the cause being ligature hanging. He was discovered deceased at his residence. Camila Banus, Franciso San Martin Mitchell Haaseth/NBC “Pepe, what can I say but ‘I love you and rest in peace, my friend,’” San Martin’s former “Days of our Lives” co-star Camila Banus (ex-Gabi Hernandez) said in a post published to her Instagram story timeline. “Love you mucho, mucho, mucho. I wish I had told you more.” Shortly after moving to Los Angeles in 2010, San Martin landed his first job in Hollywood, appearing in a November 2010 episode of “Days of our Lives” as Javier Rodriguez, a sick patient who died as he was causing a deadly outbreak at Salem University Hospital while in the presence of Melanie (Molly Burnett) and Nathan (Mark Hapka). A few months later, the show had cast him as Dario Hernandez, the younger brother of Rafe (Galen Gering), Gabi (Banus) and Arianna (Lindsay Hartley). He debuted in the March 11, 2011 episode but had exited the series by September 22, 2011. In commenting on his exit from the show, San Martin said in a since-removed post on X (then Twitter), “I couldn’t be more honored to have been a part of an amazing team, both cast and crew who are both incredibly diligent and talented. Thanx for the support u guys! lol You guys are in great hands, hopefully the changes ‘DOOL’ is making will get u guys even more into the show!” Beyond “Days of our Lives,” San Martin appeared in the series “Jane the Virgin” for seven episodes during the show’s third and fourth seasons, playing Fabian Regalo del Cielo, a hot Latin star who helped put a spark back into Jane’s (Gina Rodriguez) step after the loss of her husband, Michael (Brett Dier). In September 2017, it was announced that the actor had been cast in the recurring role of Mateo, who was tasked with monitoring the magnificent Forrester estate and would later be manipulated by Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) after she recruited him to seduce Quinn Forrester (Rena Sofer), who Sheila sought to destroy by any means necessary. San Martin’s additional credits include the shorts “Dot,” “Hotter Up Close” and “A Love Story.” He also briefly appeared in the film “Behind the Candelabra,” released in 2013. Note: The post R.I.P. 11. Production on game show “Jeopardy!” is paused this week due to the L.A. Wildfires, reports Deadline. According to the outlet, the show was to shoot a handful of episodes on Wednesday and Friday but will reschedule for yet-to-be-determined dates. Meanwhile, production for the next batch of episodes after this week’s postponement had previously been set for Monday, January 27 but it’s too early to determine if the series will move forward with that date. The news comes as production on “After Midnight” and “The Price is Right” remains suspended due to the fires, with the understanding that the shows are seeking to protect both the cast and crew along with their live audiences from the fires taking place in the Palisades, Malibu, Altadena and Pasadena neighborhoods. Hosted by Ken Jennings, “Jeopardy!” is produced by Sony Pictures Television with CBS Media Ventures distributing domestically and Paramount Global Content Distribution handling things internationally. According to the outlet, the game show paused production last week as it was within the evacuation zone related to the Eaton fire, which at press time has burned over 14,000 acres and demolished numerous homes and structures in Altadena and Pasadena. “The Price is Right” regularly tapes episodes at the Haven Studios in neighboring Glendale. In addition to “The Price is Right,” production on the network’s late night talk show “After Midnight” also remains paused. The show is hosted by Taylor Tomlinson and tapes out of the Paramount lot. 13. Best known for her legendary portrayal of Monica Quartermaine on the ABC drama series “General Hospital,” actress Leslie Charleson died Sunday morning following a long illness. She was 79 years old. In a statement, “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini said, “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson.” He added, “Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on ‘General Hospital’ alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaine family, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew. I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit and incredible presence on set.” “On behalf of everyone at ‘General Hospital,’ my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time,” Valentini concluded. Born February 22, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri, Charleson made her television debut in 1964 on the soap opera “A Flame in the Wind,” playing a character named Pam. Later, she took on the role of Alice Whipple on “As The World Turns” before truly making a name for herself portraying Iris Donnelly on “Love Is A Many Splendored Thing.” Joining the cast of the daytime drama series in 1977, Charleson’s Monica famously had an affair with former lover Rick Webber which helped establish one of the most popular love triangles in daytime history with her husband, Alan, notoriously “stalking” the pair as he worked to keep tabs on what the pair thought they were doing behind his back. While the Monica, Rick and Alan storyline proved popular with audiences into the early 1980s, fans were thrown for a loop when Alan and Monica divorced in 1990. By 1991, however, the pair were reunited and remained together until Alan’s death in 2007. By the mid-1990s, Charleson took on the revolutionary storyline that saw Monica battling breast cancer. In addition to Monica beating the disease, she and Alan found themselves adopting a daughter, Emily, through Monica’s friendship with Emily’s biological mother who lost her battle with cancer. Charleson appeared less frequently on “General Hospital” in recent years due to health issues, with Variety noting that the actress has “suffered several falls that prevented her from getting around,” resulting in her mobility being impeded and requiring her need for a walker. The outlet noted that Charleson was hospitalized last week after “one such fall.” Throughout her career, Charleson received four Daytime Emmy Awards nominations for her portrayal of Monica Quartermaine, first in 1980 in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series, along with nominations in 1982 and 1983 in the same category. In 1995, Charleson received her fourth nomination but by that time the category had been renamed to Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Outside of daytime, Charleson appeared in episodes of such shows as “The Rockford Files,” “Dharma & Greg,” “Diagnosis Murder,” “The Streets of San Francisco,” “Barnaby Jones” and “Canon,” among others. Charleson made her final appearance on "General Hospital" in December 2023, appearing in scenes opposite co-stars Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine) and Michael Easton (ex-Hamilton Finn), among others. She also appeared in scenes at the Quartermaine mansion as the family celebrated the holidays. Watch scenes from one of Charleson's final episodes on "General Hospital" below. Note: The post R.I.P. 14. After being preempted on Tuesday, January 7 due to ongoing ABC News coverage that is scheduled to continue through the State Funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, “General Hospital” returned with an all-new episode on Wednesday, January 8. In the episode, which picked up where Monday’s left off, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) can be seen fighting for his life as he was caught on fire following an explosion in his father’s penthouse. As a result of the storyline taking place, and in light of the fires currently engulfing parts of Los Angeles County in California, the daytime drama series issued a public service announcement (PSA) on its social channels noting that the episode “may prove too difficult to watch for some.” “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the fires currently raging in Los Angeles County,” the show noted in its statement. ”In light of current events, today’s episode of ‘General Hospital’ (and several that follow) may prove too difficult to watch for some,” the statement continued. “Please keep this in consideration prior to tuning in. Thank you for your understanding.” Note: The post ‘General Hospital’ Issues Statement In Light of Raging L.A. 15. Disagree. Both dayparts have too many shows and categories to sift through. Daytime wouldn't get a mention, much less a presenter, if they merged. Primetime Emmys are three hours, not including their creative artas categories. Daytime is just 2 hours. No way anyone would watch a five-hour show, much less is there any room on any network's schedule to have room to air a four-hour one. The only programs to air longer than 3-4 hours on any network are the Oscars and the Super Bowl. They justify the time due to high ad sales costs while neither Primetime or (especially) Daytime would be worth it to a network -- not even a streamer.
  16. There is currently no information available on whether the Daytime Emmys will be televised. The CBS contract expired last year.
  17. Disagree. It tells me they realize that Awards season is the time for the ceremony to take place, allowing people to attend instead of booking their vacations which generally overlaps with the Daytime Emmys. Additionally, Emmy season will now include the Daytime Emmys as it'll take place literally one month after the Primetime Emmys.
  18. As of right now, there is no information on any changes to the submission timeline or anything relating to the functioning of the Daytime Emmys branch of NATAS. All we know is going forward, the Daytime Emmys will now take place in October starting with the 52nd Emmys.
  19. The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced on Wednesday that it is changing the ceremony and submission timelines for “The 46th Annual News & Doc Emmy Awards,” effective immediately. As a result, the ceremony will now take place in June, and “The 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards” will be moved to October. “For nearly half a century, the News & Documentary Emmys have honored the best in broadcast journalism and documentary programming,” said NATAS President & CEO, Adam Sharp. “Moving the ceremony earlier in the Emmy schedule shines a brighter light on the timely nature of the incredible content being recognized.” The organization said the shorter submission window still allows for ample judging time for the News & Documentary Emmy. Meanwhile, “The 52nd Daytime and Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards” will be held in October with additional details to be announced at a later date. The updated timeline for “The 46th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards” is as follows: Entries open: January 9 Regular deadline: January 24 Final entry deadline: February 7 Judging window: March 3-April 14 (two rounds) Nominations announced: Week of April 28/first week of May 46th News & Documentary Emmy Awards: June 2025 “Shifting the timeline allows for the News and Documentary Emmys to be more timely in their recognition of content that is time-sensitive,” NATAS noted. 22. Updated: The ABC version's best-known and respected head writer, Lorraine Broderick, is also scheduled to attend.
  23. On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, daytime legend Susan Lucci will host a 55th anniversary celebratory event honoring the daytime drama series “All My Children,” where for more than 40 years she captivated audiences with her portrayal of Erica Kane, a character who quickly became a cultural icon. Look for Lucci to reflect on the creation and evolution of her character and the lasting impact of “All My Children” on television history. Titled “Susan Lucci in Conversation with Andy Cohen: All My Children at 55,” the event will take place in person and online at the 92nd Street Y (92NY) in New York City on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. ET. Tickets start at $25 for online viewing while in-person runs between $50 and $70, depending on seating location. Moderated by Bravo star Andy Cohen (“Watch What Happens Live!,” “The Real Housewives” franchise), fans can look forward to seeing Kelly Ripa (Hayley Vaughan Santos; “Live with Kelly and Mark”), Eva LaRue (Maria Santos), Jill Larson (Opal Cortlandt) and Eden Riegel (Bianca Montgomery), along with the show’s acclaimed casting director Judy Blye Wilson and head writer Lorraine Broderick, as they relive stories front the set, share insight into how the show broke new ground, and celebrate with fans the enduring magic that was Pine Valley. In addition to cementing Lucci as a pop culture icon, “All My Children” set the standard for dramatic storytelling throughout its more than 10,000 episodes. Debuting January 5, 1970 on ABC, the show tackled contemporary social issues and created unforgettable moments of love, heartbreak and triumph while helping redefine the soap opera genre for generations. “All My Children” concluded its ABC run on September 23, 2011 while a short-lived reboot ran from April 2013 to August 2013, produced by The OnLine Network (TOLN), a division of since-defunct Prospect Park Networks (PPN). Susan Lucci did not take part in the reboot. For more information about the event, including how to purchase tickets, visit 92NY.org.
