LATEST DEMO RATINGS: January 6-10, 2024
According to Nielsen, only 45 minutes of the show aired due to preemptions that impacted the show's runtime. This is generally the result of national news coverage. In addition, the Wednesday, January 8 episode of many shows was impacted by coverage of former President Jimmy Carter lying in rest in Washington, D.C. TODAY with Hoda & Jenna (aka Today with Jenna & Friends), TODAY 3rd Hour, and The View were retitled due to ABC and NBC News coverage directly related to coverage. Meanwhile, the first half-hour of The Price is Right was completely preempted/excluded from the ratings that day, and the second half-hour only aired for 24 minutes, per Nielsen.

ARTICLE: CBS Releases Full-Length Trailer for ‘Beyond the Gates’
Less than 30 days until the premiere episode of “Beyond the Gates,” and CBS has finally released the first full-length trailer and key art for the daytime drama series. In the trailer, viewers are treated to tales of betrayal, blackmail, secrets, a wedding, and a figurative funeral with the Duprees family agreeing that they must work together to keep a semblance of normalcy in their everyday lives. Expanding on the Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) storyline, we learn that not only is her ex-husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Durrett), set to marry the woman he cheated with, but Bill also has some dirt on the family through his experience with getting them out of some tough situations, particularly Dani’s father, Vernon (Clifton Davis). One of the most quotable lines in the trailer came from Dani’s sister, Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson (Daphnee Duplaix) and Bill’s fiancee, Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings) discussing the latter’s relationship with Bill. “I fell in love with an inconvenient man,” Hayley tells Nicole, who retorts, “Now you have to deal with inconvenient consequences. You see how that works?” The trailer closes with a confident Dani telling Hayley, “See you around the neighborhood.” Watch the full-length trailer below. “Beyond the Gates” follows an affluent Black family who hold court over the fictional Fairmont Crest Estates, a posh gated community that’s the center of luxury with wealthy residents harboring deep secrets. The series premieres Monday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT on CBS, while also available to stream Live and On Demand on Paramount+. ARTICLE: ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Taps Scott Teti As New Showrunner
Season 10 of “Bachelor in Paradise” will have a new showrunner, Deadline reported on Friday. According to the outlet, Scott Teti (“Claim to Fame,” “Summer House”) is taking over as showrunner of the popular reality series, part of ABC’s expansive franchise that also includes “The Bachelor” and spinoffs “The Bachelorette,” “The Golden Bachelor” and “The Golden Bachelorette.” “Bachelor in Paradise” sees fan favorites from the franchise return for a second (or third) chance at finding love after leaving their respective seasons brokenhearted. With experience under their figurative belts, participants are given the opportunity to travel to a romantic paradise in the hopes of turning a potential summer fling into the real thing. During the show’s ninth season (aired in fall 2023), Claire Freeland, Jason Ehrlich and Bennett Graebner served as showrunners following the exit of veteran producer Mike Fleiss, who had stepped down ahead of reported misconduct allegations. Freeland, Ehrlich and Graebner had also served as executive producers alongside Nicole Woods, Tim Warner and Louis Caric. Disney/ABC Changes first came to light earlier this week when Bachelor Nation host Jesse Palmer sat for an interview with Swoon, telling the outlet, “I am expecting some changes. I don’t know what those changes are going to necessarily be. I certainly have my own hopes what it might be, but I’m just really excited to get back to the beach personally, and to see our lovely cast, and to hopefully see some people fall in love and get engaged and to be back with [bartender] Wells [Adams].” Teti, whose credits also include executive producing several iterations of the “Married At First Sight” franchise, began his career as an editor before joining 51 Minds Entertainment, producers of such shows as “Flavor of Love” and “Rock of Love.” He was also the showrunner for the first season of A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” before later serving as an executive producer on other popular reality shows, including “Spy Games,” “Winter House,” “Married At First Sight: Couples’ Cam” and “Unmatchables,” among other series. In addition to Teti, Season 10 will see “The Bachelorette” alums Jonathon Johnson and Hakeem Moulton taking part as cast members – the two quickly became fan favorites but were ultimately eliminated during Jenn Tran’s season. “Bachelor in Paradise” is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Note: The post ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Taps Scott Teti As New Showrunner appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More

BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
A little bit of housekeeping for this Beyond the Gates thread. Instead of closing the thread once the show begins its daytime run, I'm leaning toward keeping the thread going, with it emerging as the Beyond the Gates Behind the Scenes, Articles and Photos thread, akin to the ongoing threads we already have in place for the other four soaps. The thinking is that the monthly discussion thread is specifically for episode discussion (for the most part), and this thread is already host to much of what the other show's threads consist of in terms of content relating to historical articles, behind-the-scenes happenings and information about the latest soap.

ARTICLE: ‘Soaps’ Documentary Film In The Works At Amplify Pictures Exploring the Family Dynasty Behind ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’
Exploring the family dynasty behind the biggest and most successful soap operas, filmmaker Matt Wolf (“Teenage,” “Bayard & Me”) is directing a new documentary film titled “Soaps,” featuring a “deep dive” into the CBS daytime drama series “The Bold and the Beautiful,” reports Variety. Bradley P. Bell Cliff Lipson/CBS According to the outlet, production on the documentary is currently underway in Los Angeles, with Wolf granted unprecedented access to the behind-the-scenes world of the half-hour soap helmed for more than 30 years by head writer and executive producer Bradley Bell — “The Bold and the Beautiful” along with sister soap “The Young and the Restless” was created by the Bell’s parents, the late William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, in 1987 and 1973, respectively. Dubbed a love letter to an often-dismissed art form and an unexpected look at the rapid-fire process by which soap operas are made, “Soaps” will explore the people who have brought television’s longest-running continuous stories that have captivated viewers around the world for nearly half a century. “Soaps have built universes that generations have escaped into, but the world behind the camera is just as fascinating as the drama onscreen,” said Amplify Pictures CEO Joe Lewis, who is also a producer on the project and whose company is financing. “Matt’s films uniquely explore the intersection of creativity and legacy, and we’re thrilled to work with him on an epic look at this significant but often overlooked cultural institution.” “When I first visited the set of ‘The Bold and the Beautiful,’ I was blown away by the Herculean effort that goes into bringing these stories to life. It’s a fascinating and unexpected world that is ripe for a documentary,” said Wolf, who also recently directed “Pee-wee as Himself,” which is set to have its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on Thursday. The film follows the life of the late artist and performer Paul Reubens and his alter ego Pee-wee Herman. “I’m so grateful to be welcomed by the Bell family, and the tight knit group of actors and behind-the-scenes crew, who tirelessly bring this show to life and have made the genre flourish,” continued Wolf, discussing his current project. “Amplify Pictures is the perfect partner because they understand the sweet spot between art and popular culture, which is the core of this project.” “Stay tuned ‘B&B’ fans… there’s an exciting documentary taking you inside The Bold and the Beautiful like never before! Directed by: Matt Wolf. Coming soon,” commented Casey Kasprzyk, supervising producer for “The Bold and the Beautiful” on X (formerly Twitter). Along with Joe Lewis, “Soaps” is produced by Lauren Haber for Amplify Pictures, Matt Wolf for Polari Pictures and Lindsay Panell (“Big Vape: The Rise and Fall of Juul”). Executive producers are Rachel Eggebeen and Colin King Miller for Amplify Pictures. ARTICLE: Season 15 of ‘The Talk’ Concluded With Record Low Ratings
Concluding its 15-season run last month, CBS’ “The Talk” averaged 1.319 million viewers during the week of December 16-20, 2024, marking its most-watched week of the 2024-2025 television season. According to figures released by Nielsen, the talk show’s final week averaged a mere 0.15 rating among Women 18-49, tying its second-lowest rating of the season. Additionally, among Women 18-49 viewers, “The Talk” averaged just 103,000 viewers in the key sales demographic, tying for its second-lowest performance of the season. Among Women 25-54, “The Talk” pulled in a 0.23 rating, on par with its performance one week prior (week of December 9-13, 2024). Meanwhile, among Women 25-54 viewers, the show attracted its third smallest audience of the season with just 145,000 viewers falling within the demo. Despite the low numbers among both demographics, “The Talk” still managed to outperform at least one other daytime broadcast program with “NBC News Daily” pulling in a 0.13 rating among Women 18-49 and a 0.21 rating among Women 25-54. “GMA3: What You Need to Know” / “NBC News Daily” ABC News / NBC News Although its performance during its final weeks on air was a far cry from the show’s earlier seasons, wherein it consistently gave “The View” a run for its ratings, “The Talk” still managed to outperform both “GMA3: What You Need to Know” and “NBC News Daily” among both Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 during the fourth quarter of 2024, even topping “NBC News Daily” among Total Viewers (1.240 million vs. 1.208 million). “GMA3: What You Need to Know” averaged 1.356 million viewers during the same period. Averaging 152,000 viewers among Women 25-54 for the quarter, “The Talk” beat out “NBC News Daily” (146,000 viewers) and “GMA3: What You Need to Know” (147,000 viewers). Its lead among Women 18-49 viewers was much tighter as all three shows performed virtually on par with each other. “The Talk” pulled in 109,000 viewers in the demo while “GMA3” saw 108,000 viewers and “NBC News Daily” captured 105,000 viewers. For the season, “The Talk” averaged 1.240 million viewers compared to 1.353 million for “GMA3” and 1.208 million for “NBC News Daily.” As “The Talk” saw declining numbers throughout its 13th and 14th seasons, despite revamping its hosting lineup, CBS announced in April last year that it had decided to end the series, which replaced “As The World Turns” on the network’s lineup in 2010. Hosted by Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Sheryl Underwood, Jerry O’Connell and Natalie Morales, the 15th and final season of “The Talk” was executive produced by Robb Crabbe with Ianthe Jones serving as the show’s co-executive producer. The show was produced by CBS Television Studios. http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/media/2024/11/CBS-Beyond-The-Gates-Premeire-1024x576.jpg“Beyond the Gates” CBS The performance of “The Talk” during its final season is significant as it will help CBS determine the future success of its upcoming daytime drama series, “Beyond the Gates,” premiering Monday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m. ET/1:00 p.m. PT, with the first all-new network television soap opera to premiere in over 25 years taking over the timeslot previously held by “The Talk.” Note: The post Season 15 of ‘The Talk’ Concluded With Record Low Ratings appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. ARTICLE: R.I.P. Linda Barker Laundra – Veteran Soap Opera Director & Producer Dies at 79
Linda Barker Laundra, best known for producing and directing hundreds of hours of daytime television, including “All My Children,” “Another World” and “Guiding Light,” has died. She was 79 years old. “So very sorry to report that Linda died at home Friday afternoon at 3:15,” shared Laundra’s husband, David, in a post on Facebook. “I was holding her hand when she took her last breath. No more pain. At peace now and forever more.” Last February, Laundra was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, most commonly known as bile duct cancer or liver cancer, which is a rare but aggressive type of cancer that forms in the bile ducts. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it often impacts adults in their 70s and generally spreads beyond the bile ducts by the time healthcare providers diagnose it. Laundra’s husband previously revealed that his wife had been placed in Home Hospice Care after having undergone months of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation treatments, while also participating in a drug trial, all of which proved unsuccessful. Before Laundra’s passing, a GoFundMe had been created to help cover the costs of her end-of-life care. Following her death, organizer Irene Burns updated the page, noting “David Laundra is so very grateful for your support. This fund is helping to lift a great burden from his shoulders.” At press time, just over $22,000 had been raised out of the $48,000 goal set with 105 donors. Born September 28, 1945 in Monroe Michigan, Laundra served as Artistic Director of the Writers Theatre, a theatre company she co-founded with her husband in New York. Some of their directing and producing credits include such plays as “The Gospel According to Mark Twain,” “My Own Stranger,” “The Overcoat,” “Anna, The Gypsy Swede,” “Resistance,” “and “The Day Jack London Got Pinched,” among others. http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/media/2005/09/all_my_children_01x3.jpg“All My Children” ABC Outside of the theatre, Linda’s career expanded when she took on producing and directing work for soap operas “Guiding Light,” “Another World” and “All My Children,” as well as the primetime drama “Homicide: Life on the Street.” Her credits also include the short film “Jean,” an adaptation based on the final chapter of Mark Twain’s autobiography, and “Minds Apart,” a short film based on works by Anne Sexton, which Laundra co-directed alongside her husband with contributions from their New York University film students. In 1995, Laundra received her first Daytime Emmy Award nomination as part of the directing team at “Another World.” Two years later, she received a nomination as a producer for “All My Children,” which had been nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. In 2017, Linda and David sat for an interview with Primary Stages, an off-broadway non-profit dedicated to inspiring, supporting, and sharing the art of playwriting as part of the organization’s oral history project. Check out clips from their interview below. Linda Laundra is survived by her husband, David, along with several family members including nieces Tammela Houser Gerber and Dixie Arnold, and nephew Paul Hinkley, among others.
