Former “General Hospital” star Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jasper “Jax” Jacks) has lost his legal battle against Disney’s ABC over the company’s then vaccine requirement for employees, which has since been rescinded.

According to Deadline, “A Los Angeles Superior Court Judge agreed with ABC in that the actor’s opposition [to getting vaccinated]  was based on health reasons rather than his religious leanings.” While noting a detailed ruling by Judge Stephen Goorvitch is expected in the next several weeks, attorneys for Rademacher had no comment for the outlet when contacted. Further, Deadline states, “…based on precedent, it is very likely the actor will appeal.”

On November 8, 2021, it was announced that Rademacher had been let go from the ABC drama series along with co-star Steve Burton (ex-Jason Morgan; now Harris Michaels on “Days of our Lives”) after the two refused to get vaccinated by the Disney/ABC deadline, which was November 1, 2021. Rademacher’s final air date was November 22, 2021.

During his final scenes, Rademacher’s Jax told his ex-wife Carly (Laura Wright) of his plans to leave Port Charles in order to handle some business in Sydney, Australia. “Look, besides Josslyn [Eden McCoy] and Alexis [Nancy Lee Grahn], I’m kind of on the outs with everyone in Port Charles right now,” declared Jax, eerily aligning with real-life as Rademacher received backlash over his controversial comment about the trans community, wherein he depicted transphobic sentiments in an Instagram post.

The timing of the post and the responses that followed prompted ABC to officially confirm the actor was no longer employed at the company. “The fellow actor, #IngoRademacher, is mercifully no longer a part of the #gh cast,” commented Grahn on Twitter prior to ABC’s confirmation. Rademacher issued a public apology to Cassandra James, a trans actress who continues to play Terry Randolph on the soap opera, saying, “Cassandra, I apologize to you sincerely. I think you’re an absolute talent and you’re very beautiful as well. I don’t think a transphobic man would say that. I think you’re absolutely gorgeous, I really do.”

While claiming not to be against vaccines themselves, Rademacher has long been vocal against vaccine mandates or “passports.” In an August 2021 post, months before Disney/ABC officially implemented its then mandate, Rademacher said, “If you want to get the vaccine because you have a fear of dying from this virus, talk to your doctor and decide. This is about freedom to choose what’s best for you. A huge percentage of our population have already recovered from COVID and have natural immunity, why does that not count? Please let that sink in. Taking the vaccine does not stop you from getting COVID, spreading it, or dying from it. Now would be a good time to be honest and start following the science.”

In a memorandum of points and authorities included in a motion to quash an ABC subpoena filed by Rademacher’s attorneys last year, they pointed out the reason the actor was suing ABC in the first place.

“[Rademacher] filed this action alleging violations of his privacy rights, unlawful religious and medical condition discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination,” the suit starts out, citing ABC’s decision in summer 2021 to order anybody working on a television show it produced to get a Covid-19 vaccination. “That meant, Ingo, as a cast member of the ABC-produced soap opera, ‘General Hospital,’ which he had been a cast member for 25 years, was required to receive a Covid-19 shot to continue working on the show or request a religious exemption,” the suit says, concluding, “Although ABC claimed to grant exemptions for sincerely held religious objections to the shot, it refused to accept Ingo’s request – without explanation. ABC then terminated Ingo’s contract to perform.”

After a two-year break from the series, Rademacher returned to “General Hospital” in May 2019. He first joined the series in 1996 as the rich playboy who fell in love with model Brenda Barett (Vanessa Marcil). The actor also played Thorne Forrester on “The Bold and the Beautiful” and made an appearance in CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0.”

  2. Jackson Montgomery, All My Children, AMC, #AMC, #AllMyChildren

For the first time since “All My Children” went off the air in 2011, fans of the daytime drama series will find out what happened to Jackson Montgomery when his portrayer, Walt Willey, joins the cast of “General Hospital” next month for a brief stint.

According to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the news, Willey will reprise the role of Jackson when the character heads to Port Charles. This marks the second time Willey will have portrayed the character in another series outside of “All My Children.” He previously portrayed the character over several episodes of “The City” in 1996.

In a post on Facebook, Willey confirmed his joining “General Hospital,” saying, “Been sitting on this one for a while but now I’ve been given the clearance to announce that ‘Jackson Montgomery’ is visiting Port Charles! I’ll be doing a few episodes of ‘General Hospital,’ due to air mid July. So excited to reprise my character and see and work with old friends!” He added, “I’ll keep you posted on any details. ‘Jackson’ in Port Charles…who would have thought it? Let me, and ABC, know what you think about it!”

Willey’s appearance on “General Hospital” marks a reunion of sorts for the actor as he previously appeared in scenes with Finola Hughes when she appeared on “All My Children” as her Anna Devane character from 2001-2003. Other notable “All My Children” alums who have made their way to “General Hospital,” albeit as new characters, include James Patrick Stuart (ex-Will Cortlandt; now Valentin Cassadine), Michael E. Knight (ex-Tad Martin; now Martin Grey), Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee Smythe; ex-Hayden Barnes on “GH”) and Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan Lavery; now Drew Cain).

Although specific storyline details have yet to be revealed, it’s understood that Jackson is likely to be providing some legal expertise, similar to the experience needed by Nora Buchanan (Hillary B. Smith) from “One Life to Live” in 2017 and 2019, respectively.

Willey joined the cast of “All My Children” in 1987 and played Jackson Montgomery until the show’s series finale, which aired on September 23, 2011. In the final moments of the episode, Jackson tells Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) he will no longer stand by her and she can go to Los Angeles alone after she tells him she doesn’t want to marry him.

Desperate for him to go with her, Erica runs after Jackson, begging him to listen to her. In the end, Jackson spouts the iconic line, “Frankly, Erica, I don’t give a damn what you need,” referencing the famous line from the 1939 classic film, “Gone with the Wind,” wherein Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) tells Scarlett O’Hara (Vivien Leigh), “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” Upon hearing the updated line on “All My Children,” Erica again runs after Jackson just as JR Chandler (then played by Jacob Young) aims his gun and fires, leaving fans pondering who got shot – in the 2013 reboot it was revealed to be JR’s ex-wife, Marissa Tasker (Sarah Glendening).

Prior to joining “All My Children,” Willey appeared on the soaps “The Edge of Night,” “Another World,” “As The World Turns,” and “Ryan’s Hope.” His most recent acting credit is as Gregory Ashford in the digital drama series “Tainted Dreams.”

  10. Kathy Najimy as Mary Sanderson, Bette Midler as Winifred Sanderson, and Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah Sanderson, Hocus Pocus, Hocus Pocus 2, Hocus Pocus 3, #HocusPocus

After the success of “Hocus Pocus 2” on Disney+ last year, Sean Bailey, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, has confirmed that a third film is in the works.

In a profile with The New York Times, the outlet noted that “Hocus Pocus 3” is currently in development at the studio, although there is no word yet on whether the next film will head straight to Disney+ or be available in theaters first. In its reporting, The Times points out Bailey oversees a division that makes “two or three big-budget films annually for release in theaters and three modestly budgeted movies for Disney+.”

Debuting September 30, 2022 on Disney+, “Hocus Pocus 2” marked the return of the Sanderson sisters 29 years after the original’s release. The film starred Bette Midler (“The First Wives Club,” “Beaches”), Sarah Jessica Parker (“Sex and the City,” “Divorce”), and Kathy Najimy (“Sister Act,” “Younger”), who reprised their roles as Winifred, Sarah and Mary, respectively.

Anne Fletcher (“Dumplin,’” “The Proposal”) directed from a script by Jen D’Angelo, who in a previous interview with Variety hinted at a potential follow-up film in which fans could see what’s happening in the lives of Max Dennison (Omri Katz) and Allison Watts (Vinessa Shaw), two key characters from the original who were noticeably missing from the sequel.

“We tried so hard to get the original cast back for cameos and then it just kept not working out for one reason or the other,” D’Angelo said to Variety. “But I’m hoping in ‘Hocus Pocus 3,’ we’ll see Max and Alison living in California.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly during a promotional tour for “Hocus Pocus 2,” Midler told the publication, “If there was a third one, of course I’d sign on, but I don’t know how. I can’t imagine what the story would be, but I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary, and our relationship. It’s good for women. We stick together through hell and high water, but we do cause mayhem, and not many women cause that much mayhem!”

“Hocus Pocus 2” set a Nielsen streaming movie record during its debut week, drawing 2.725 billion viewing minutes during the week of September 26-October 2, 2022. Overall, it placed number 2 on the Nielsen Top 10 streaming chart that week, behind only Netflix’s “Dahmer” which attracted 4.370 billion viewing minutes.

“Hocus Pocus 2” also starred Sam Richardson (“The Tomorrow War”), Doug Jones (“The Shape of Water”), Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”), Whitney Peak (“Gossip Girl”), Belissa Escobedo (“American Horror Stories”), Lilia Buckingham (“Dirt”), Froy Gutierrez (“Teen Wolf”), and Tony Hale (“Veep”). The film was produced by Lynn Harris (“King Richard,” “The Shallows”), with Ralph Winter (“Hocus Pocus,” “X-Men” franchise), David Kirschner (“Hocus Pocus,” “Chucky”), and Adam Shankman (“Disenchanted,” “Hairspray”) serving as executive producers.

  12. Tyler Christopher, Days of our Lives, Stefan Cassadine, DAYS, DOOL, #DAYS, #DOOL, #DaysofourLives

Former “Days of our Lives” and “General Hospital” star Tyler Christopher was arrested on May 26 for public intoxication, TMZ reported earlier this week.

According to the outlet, Christopher was found sleeping on the ground near the American Airlines terminal at Burbank Airport. After being notified of the situation, the actor was awakened by officers who arrived on the scene.

When questioned, Christopher reportedly told BPD he’d missed his flight. Allegedly, Christopher displayed “clear and objective signs of intoxication” and “was unable to care for himself.” Sources told the outlet that was justification enough for the arrest.

After his arrest, Christopher was let go with a citation and expected to appear in court at a later date.

Making his mark in television in 1996 when he joined the cast of “General Hospital” as Nikolas Cassadine, Christopher was previously arrested in 2019 for public intoxication, that time for passing out in an Uber which the driver alleged the actor urinated on himself while in the vehicle.

From 2018-2019, Christopher took on the role of Stefan O. DiMera on “Days of our Lives.” He was later replaced in the role by former “General Hospital” co-star Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny Zacchara) after the show let him go due to his abuse of alcohol.

During a conversation aired last year, Christopher opened up to former “General Hospital” co-star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) on his podcast, “State of Mind with Maurice Benard” about his alcohol use. In it, he commented for the first time about his firing from “Days of our Lives” and how things spiraled out from there.  “I threw it away. Nobody took it away from me. I dropped it, Okay? Having to walk out the doors under those circumstances? That was like, ‘This is for real, dude.’ And I haven’t been back since. That ship has sailed.” He added, “At some point, it will kill you — and it has. Three times, I have flatlined. And nobody knows that. I’m saying it here for the first time. Three times I have flatlined, and they brought me back. Twice from [alcohol] poisoning, once from withdrawal.”

Watch below Christopher’s appearance on “State of Mind” where he discusses his use of alcohol, how it has impacted his life and family, and the revelation of living with bipolar disorder.

During the week of May 22-26, 2023, “The Price is Right” (3.653 million / 4.169 million) continued to rank first among Total Viewers and Households (2.3 / 2.6) despite being slightly down week-to-week. Meanwhile, “The Young and the Restless” (3.347 million) saw the biggest week-to-week increase among viewers, adding +127,000. “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.817 million) was also up week-to-week, adding +33,000 viewers. The two CBS soaps continue to outpace their performance from two years earlier, up +134,000 and +77,000, respectively.

“The View” (2.201 million) gained +107,000 viewers over its performance during the week of May 15-19, 2023. Meanwhile, “General Hospital” (2.067 million) again lost viewers over the week ago, shedding another -29,000 viewers. This marks the fifth consecutive week of declines for the show since Total Viewers were reinstated in our weekly reports (since the week of April 24, 2023).

Despite airing reruns all week, “The Talk” (1.265 million) performed on par with its 2021 numbers (1.265 million vs. 1.246 million). “NBC News Daily” (970,000) continues to perform poorly. While the show may be cheap to produce for NBC, affiliates can’t be happy with the show’s performance overall.

What follows is a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of May 22-26, 2023 in Households and Total Viewers, including a look at their comparable performance last year (2022) and two years ago (2021), respectively. A closer look at the daytime soaps, including a daily performance breakdown in the demos, will be posted shortly.

Note*: Officially, rankings are sorted by the rounded figures released by Nielsen. We are separately providing the unrounded demos for informational purposes only. “NBC News Daily” year ago and two years ago figures are compared to the performance of “Days of our Lives.” Ratings for Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 were unavailable at press time.

  18. Tracey E. Bregman, Tracey Bregman, Lauren Fenmore, The Young and the Restless, Young and Restless, Young & Restless, Y&R, #YR, #YR50, #YoungandRestless

With the show currently airing reruns due to the Writers Strike, CBS’ “The Talk” will rebroadcast the January 24, 2023 episode on Tuesday, May 30. The episode features Tracey E. Bregman from “The Young and the Restless” as she celebrates her 40th anniversary on the daytime drama series, joining in 1983 as ingenue Lauren Fenmore.

On the daytime talk show, Bregman talked about what fans could expect from the special standalone episode of “The Young and the Restless” dedicated to her character, which aired on January 25, 2023, and saw Lauren being recognized for her contributions to the fashion industry with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Ironically, the episode also saw Bregman herself receiving a replacement Daytime Emmy Award after her original one was lost when her home burned down during the Woolsey fire in 2018.

The replacement award was presented to her by her on-screen husband Christian Le Blanc (Michael Baldwin), who said to his long-time friend and colleague, “I would like to present this, an Emmy for Outstanding Ingenue, but this time it’s from the people who love and respect you and cherish you, your CBS, your ‘[The] Young and the Restless’ family, and I’m so honored to be able to give it to you.”

Bregman responded, saying, “I can’t thank you enough for, I’m so overwhelmed.” She added, “It has been one of the most extraordinary and heartfelt experiences of my career. I tried not to go into the ugly cry in the air. Thanks to my ‘Young and Restless’ family, NATAS, ‘The Talk’ and everyone who made this moment happen. My heart is so full.”

“We were devastated to learn of the destruction of Tracey’s home, and with it, her well-earned Emmy Award,” said Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS. “As our judges acknowledged, the Emmy statuette is a symbol of her hard work and outstanding dedication to her craft. We are happy it’s back home where it belongs.”

Bregman originally won her Daytime Emmy Award in 1985 in the category of Outstanding Ingenue, which was later rebranded as Outstanding Younger Actress. The category is more commonly known as Outstanding Younger Performer with the eligibility age reduced to 18 and younger, effective calendar year 2022.

  22. Rob Bruce Baron, The View, #TheView

Rob Bruce Baron has helped set the stage for ABC’s “The View” since the show launched in August 1997, and today, May 25, marked his final day of work before officially retiring after 40 years in television.

In celebration of Baron’s contributions, moderator Whoopi Goldberg took time to share information about the show’s lead stage manager as he prepares to enjoy the simple life.

“He started his career as a 15-year-old production assistant on the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention. He’s stage managed sports, sitcoms, game shows and talk shows. He was a lounge singer in Chicago and he was a voiceover actor,” shared Goldberg, while noting some biographical information about Baron during his entertainment career.
