  1. Hayley Pullos, Molly Lansing-Davis, General Hospital, GH, GH60, #GH, #GH60, #GeneralHospital

Last week, in a statement released to Soap Opera Digest, “General Hospital” star Haley Pullos (Molly Lansing-Davis) announced she’d be taking time off from the daytime drama series after being involved in an automobile accident. “I’m doing okay, but I am going to need a little time to recover,” she said. Now comes word that Pullos was arrested for her involvement in the accident, charged with felony DUI.

According to a police report obtained by TMZ, on Saturday, April 29, Pullos was on a Pasadena freeway “when she swerved, flew over the dividing barrier, and into oncoming traffic.” She later collided head-on with another vehicle which was going 60 mph. The outlet also published pictures from the scene of the accident.

Pullos is said to have been unable to exit her vehicle and required help from firefighters before being transported by ambulance to the hospital. Allegedly, while being transported, a firefighter was “assessing her injuries when she struck him and shouted, ‘This is a $400 f***ing shirt!’”

After searching her vehicle, police are said to have found “weed edibles and mini-bottles of tequila.”

Upon arriving at the hospital, Pullos was met by officers who at that point determined she’d been driving under the influence, citing the “smell of alcohol on her breath, slurred speech, and watery eyes.”

Pullos was arrested for felony DUI while still at the hospital. She was eventually sedated after “she got aggressive and fought hospital staff.”

As for the driver of the other vehicle, they reportedly survived the accident but were hospitalized with major injuries.

Before the accident, Pullos was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision, according to information from police to TMZ.

“General Hospital” has temporarily recast the role of Molly Lansing-Davis with newcomer Holiday Mia Kriegel ( “Bull,” “Animal Kingdom”). She begins airing next week, the week of May 22, 2023.

  5. Mischa Barton, Reece Sinclair, Neighbours, The O.C., The Hills, #Neighbours

Mischa Barton is officially on Ramsay Street!

On Sunday, May 14, the Australian soap “Neighbours” unveiled the first photo of the actress on the set while holding up the iconic street sign and standing beside actors Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne who play Karl Kennedy and Susan Kennedy, respectively, on the series.

In a caption for the photo, we learn for the first time that Barton’s character’s full name is Reece Sinclair. Previously, we only knew the character’s first name. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have her moving in for a little while…,” the caption noted, referring to Barton as a guest star when the show returns to TV.

Another photo of Barton was shared on Fletcher’s Instagram, this time without the street sign. In his caption, he said, “We have been blessed @neighbours to have the talented @mischabarton join the cast for the new episodes. Can’t wait for you to see them later this year!” He also included the hashtag “jackiewoodburne” as the actress is not on social media.

In April, it was announced that Barton would join the series as Reece, an American new to Erinsborough who’s not quite who she appears to be.

“I’m excited to be part of this iconic show’s next chapter, and I am really looking forward to being back in Australia — a place I know and love! I think the character of Reece is going to be a great role for me to explore and play with,” shared Barton in a statement.

  6. abc_alaskadaily_thecompanyyoukeep_bigsky

As the network prepares to reveal its Fall TV schedule for the 2023-2024 broadcast season, ABC on Friday canceled dramas “Big Sky,” “The Company You Keep” and “Alaska Daily.” All three shows were produced by corporate sibling 20th Television, a division of Disney Television Studios.

“Big Sky” aired on ABC for three seasons while “The Company You Keep” and “Alaska Daily” aired for just one season. At press time, “Rookie: Feds” remained the only drama not yet renewed or canceled by the network but its chances seem to have improved with the axing of the three other shows.

    “Big Sky”

In the show’s third season, officially titled “Big Sky: Deadly Trails,” Private detective Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury), undersheriff Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) and newly appointed sheriff Beau Arlen (Jensen Ackles) maintain order in Helena, Montana, with their unparalleled investigative skills. But when a local backcountry trip led by charismatic outfitter Sunny Barnes (Reba McEntire) goes awry, the trio faces their most formidable mystery yet – in which no camper can be trusted and where danger lurks around every jagged rock and gnarled tree. The series also starred Dedee Pfeiffer as Denise Brisbane, Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Tonya Wallis and J. Anthony Pena as Deputy Mo Poppernak.

“Big Sky” is based on the series of books by C.J. Box, with “Big Sky: Deadly Trails” being executive produced by David E. Kelley, Elwood Reid and Ross Fineman. Elwood Reid (“The Chi,” “Hawaii Five-0”) serves as showrunner and executive producer. “Big Sky: Deadly Trails” is produced by 20th Television in association with A+E Studios. 20th Television is a part of Disney Television Studios.

The show aired what is now its series finale on January 18, 2023.

    “The Company You Keep”

Launched as a midseason replacement, “The Company You Keep” follows con man Charlie and undercover CIA officer Emma, who, after a night of passion leads to love, are unknowingly on a collision course as their professional lives collide. While Charlie ramps up the “family business” so he can get out for good, Emma’s closing in on the vengeful criminal who holds Charlie’s family debts in hand – forcing them to reckon with the lies they’ve told so they can save themselves and their families from disastrous consequences. The series is based on the Korean Broadcasting System series entitled “My Fellow Citizens.”

The series starred Milo Ventimiglia as Charlie, Catherine Haena Kim as Emma, William Fichtner as Leo, Tim Chiou as David, Freda Foh Shen as Grace, James Saito as Joseph, Sarah Wayne Callies as Birdie, Felisha Terrell as Daphne and Polly Draper as Fran.

The show aired what is now its series finale on May 7, 2023.

    “Alaska Daily”

From the mind of Tom McCarthy (“Spotlight”), “Alaska Daily” starred Hilary Swank as Eileen Fitzgerald, a fiercely talented and award-winning investigative journalist who leaves her high-profile New York life behind after a fall from grace to join a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.

  8. Kelly Clarkson, The Kelly Clarkson Show, #KellyClarkson, #KellyClarksonShow, NBCUniversal

Just days after it was announced that “The Kelly Clarkson Show” would be officially moving production from Los Angeles to New York City for its fifth season this fall comes word of toxicity behind the scenes at the daytime talk show, according to a bombshell report by Rolling Stone, published on Friday.

While staffers say Kelly Clarkson herself is “fantastic,” some of her producers, including executive producer/showrunner Alex Duda, get the brunt of the accusations. “I think Alex Duda’s a monster,” a former employee told Rolling Stone. “I have a friend who’s an executive producer who warned me about taking this job, because apparently she has done this on every show she’s worked on.”

Among the 11 current and former employees interviewed for the piece, they all seemed to agree that Clarkson was unaware of any problems for lower-level staffers, who the outlet claims have had to take on additional work outside of the show to help them pay their bills, including as Uber Eats drivers, dog walkers, and even babysitters, among other work. There’s also frustration that despite some leaving the show for other careers, the “toxic” culture still remained despite a number of complaints to Human Resources about the behaviors.

A former staffer who had taken a leave of absence from the show due to mental health matters stemming from the treatment they received by producers, including bullying and intimidation, says they went to see a psychiatrist for the first time in their entire life because they “truly couldn’t handle it mentally.” Additionally, the same staffer noted that despite working in the entertainment industry for several years, their time at “The Kelly Clarkson Show” was “by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in my entire life.” They added, “It deterred me from wanting to work in daytime ever again. When I say I was traumatized, I was really traumatized.”

Some of the accusations brought against “The Kelly Clarkson Show” draw eerily similar to those brought against “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which led to the firing of three executive producers and the eventual end of the daytime talk show. There were also similar complaints of toxicity at Telepictures, the production company behind some of the longest-running daytime talk shows in daytime TV history, including “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” and “The Tyra Banks Show,” the latter of which is where Duda worked before taking the job at “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”

In the Rolling Stone piece, the continuation of similar patterns at all those shows is blamed on the recycling of the same executive producers and showrunners who go from show to show while bringing their experiences and behaviors along with them.

While Clarkson and producer NBCUniversal are said to have not provided comment ahead of Rolling Stone’s publishing its investigation, the two parties have since issued formal responses.

In a lengthy post on Instagram, Clarkson said, “In my 20 years in the entertainment industry, I’ve always led with my heart and what I believed to be right. I love my team at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show,’ and to find out that anyone is feeling unheard and or disrespected on this show is unacceptable.” She noted, “I have always been, and will continue to be, committed to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment at ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show.’ As we prepare for a move to the East Coast, I am more committed than ever to ensuring that not only our team that is moving, but also our new team in NY, is comprised of the best and kindest in the business.”

Stating that those in leadership positions need to do better, always, Clarkson revealed that she and her senior staff will partake in leadership training so that everyone can be/become “the best version of ourselves.” She says, “Part of that build will include leadership training for all of the senior staff, including myself. There is always room to grow and ensure we are all being/becoming the best version of ourselves in any business, especially when it comes to leadership, to ensure that any notion of toxicity is eradicated.”

As for NBCUniversal, a statement from the company says, “We are committed to a safe and respectful work environment and take workplace complaints very seriously, and to insinuate otherwise is untrue. When issues are reported, they are promptly reviewed, investigated and acted upon as appropriate. The Kelly Clarkson Show strives to build a safe, respectful and equitable workplace that nurtures a culture of inclusivity and creativity.”

For more information on the Rolling Stone investigation, including further implications cited by current and former employees of the talk show, read the full story.

  9. Pure Flix, Great American Media, Great American Family, Great American Living, Great American Adventure, Great American Christmas

Pure Flix, the faith and family streaming platform owned by Sony Pictures Television and Great American Media, home to a growing portfolio of family-friendly media brands, announced an agreement today that sees the two companies merging.

PureFlix will become part of the merged company, with Great American Media contributing two cable networks (Great American Family and Great American Living) and a FAST channel (Great American Adventures). Great American Media will retain a majority interest in the merged company and oversee the independent organization’s day-to-day management.

While terms of the deal were not disclosed, Great American Media President and CEO, Bill Abbott, will serve as CEO of the merged entity, reporting to the company’s board of directors. The new company will build on the multi-faceted, multi-channel family and faith media brands in the portfolio. Closing of the deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.

“In a media environment where programming and distribution business models are in a constant state of flux, this agreement provides a rare opportunity to maximize our potential with the expertise, market knowledge and content creation capabilities of a world class partner like Sony Pictures,” said Abbott in a statement.  “This merger will allow us to further our commitment to original, quality content and makes Great American Media and Pure Flix leaders in a large and under-served market.”

“Family-friendly entertainment remains an important segment of the industry, and merging these two entities will create the greatest opportunity to achieve more scale for Pure Flix as it continues to build its subscriber base,” said Ravi Ahuja, Chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development for Sony Pictures. “Bill and the Great American Media team have been successfully leading the Great American Family and Great American Living brands, and we believe they have a winning plan to take Pure Flix to even greater heights.”

With Pure Flix and Great American Media sharing the same mission to serve and delight consumers in the family and faith categories, the combing of the two provides an opportunity to reach a larger and broader audience for Great American Media’s linear networks and FAST channel while better utilizing Pure Flix’s SVOD service and vast content library. The two expect that bringing their brands together into one will immediately establish the new company as a leader in their target genres.

Sony Pictures Television acquired Pure Flix in December 2020. The service provides faith and family-friendly movies and TV series to its more than one million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada. Meanwhile, Great American Media has established itself as a key destination for original Christmas movies, romantic comedies and classic series that celebrate faith, family and country, led by Great American Family which is currently available in more than 50 million homes and is carried by all major cable providers. Great American Family recently closed out First Quarter 2023 as the fastest-growing network on TV for the second consecutive quarter.

In this iteration, Bates stars as Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her younger years and decides to rejoin the workforce at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases. Matty is assigned to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker thirsty for justice. Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the head of the firm, is intrigued by Matty and her clever skills. As Matty endeavors to establish herself in her new high-stakes world, she works alongside the firm’s younger associates – the charismatic Billy (David Del Rio) and the uber-ambitious Sarah (Leah Lewis). This “Matlock” s inspired by the classic television series of the same name and even references the TV original occasionally. The show takes over the Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT slot.

Outside of the two new dramas, the network will launch the midseason drama “Tracker” starring Justin Hartley (“The Young and the Restless,” “Passions”) after Super Bowl LVIII in February and the comedy “Poppa’s House” starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. In “Tracker,” Hartley plays lone-wolf survivalist Colter Shaw, who roams the country as a “reward seeker,” using his expert tracking skills to help private citizens and law enforcement solve all manner of mysteries while contending with his own fractured family. “Poppa’s House” sees Damon Wayans as a legendary talk radio host and happily divorced “Poppa” who has his point of view challenged at work when a new female co-host (Essence Atkins) is hired and at home where he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Damon Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband.

Additionally, the new schedule sees the return of the #1 new broadcast series “Fire Country,” the #1 comedy “Young Sheldon,” the #1 broadcast drama “NCIS” and the #1 news program “60 Minutes.”

“CBS programming across entertainment, news and sports continues to appeal to audiences on all platforms, including Paramount+, the fastest-growing streaming service in the U.S.,” said George Cheeks, president and chief executive officer of CBS. “It all starts with a winning broadcast Network that has an undeniable track record for nurturing long-running franchises and launching new hits every year. The new shows and schedule set to launch next year, combined with the Super Bowl, NCAA Tournament, the GRAMMY Awards and other Network events will make America’s top-rated Network an even bigger force next year.”

“Along with our outstanding team at the Network, I am incredibly excited to introduce four new series with big-name talent portraying distinct, bold, engaging characters,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “These new shows from marquee auspices capture everything our viewers love about a CBS series – unique personalities, suspenseful drama, intrigue, high stakes, and relatable laugh-out-loud comedy with heart and humor. The new additions to our lineup are a stellar complement to our winning slate of returning series and we are confident they will resonate with our viewers on broadcast and streaming platforms.”

Next season CBS will be the broadcast home of the prestigious Tony Awards, the GRAMMY Awards, the CMT Music Awards and the Kennedy Center Honors, among other high-profile events as part of a year-round schedule featuring original programming.

You’re right! I was looking at too many years and confusing myself lol

It looked like the only time OLTL did well in the HH under JFP was the Nora/Bo/Lindsay climax and none of the other increases lasted, whereas other soaps would still hit big strides for plot climaxes in the late 90s.

The best ratings I believe JFP’s OLTL got was the Georgie Phillips storyline. Those demos, IIRC, were so good the show was topping GH consistently. Again, that’s why she got the GH gig.

The next time OLTL started doing that again was ironically when it got canceled under Ron, which is why despite canceling the show itself the network extended the contracts of Ron and Frank which later led to them both getting GH

This would have been the Billy Douglas climax for OLTL? I wasn’t expecting a massive ratings increase for a story climax but almost seems the ratings hurt from its tale.

OLTL definitely seems to be the soap that could, they didn’t score well in the HHs but we were surprisingly high in the demos and JFP seemed to do more harm than good.

Also seems the pit story didn’t do much for DAYS

This era wasn't JFP. She didn't start until 1997. Because OLTL was doing so well, particularly in those demos, as you said, she got the gig at GH.

In celebration of the channel’s launch, ABC has published a brand new promo across the show’s social media explaining everything fans need to know as stated in voiceover form by stars Laura Wright and Maurice Benard, who play Sonny Corinthos and Carly Spencer, respectively, on the series.

Relive your favorite storylines over and over beginning with Sonny and Mike’s Alzheimer’s saga,”  Benard states as he takes over voiceover work. He returns it to Wright, who adds, “All the drama. 19. Kelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos, Live with Kelly and Mark, #KellyandMark #LiveKellyMark

For the second week in a row, “Live with Kelly and Mark” was the highest-rated and most-watched daytime talk show – network or syndicated – across all key Nielsen measures, including Households (1.6 rating), Total Viewers (2.320 million) and Women 25-54 (0.6 rating) during the week of April 24-28, 2023, the most current week in which daytime syndicated talk show ratings are available.

Continuing to outperform its year ago performance in both Households (+7% – 1.6 rating vs. 1.5 rating) and Total Viewers (+6% – 2.320 million vs. 2.181 million), “Live with Kelly and Mark” also topped the week among all entertainment talk shows (daytime and late-night). The show was even with its year ago and week-to-week performance among Women 25-54 (0.6 rating).

  20. Kelly Clarkson, The Kelly Clarkson Show, #KellyClarkson, #KellyClarksonShow, NBCUniversal

Earlier this year, it was reported that executives at NBCUniversal discussed moving Kelly Clarkson’s syndicated daytime talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” from Los Angeles to the New York City area beginning with the show’s fifth season. Months later, Variety reports via a spokesperson that a deal has been made which will see the show taping at the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza, NBC’s New York headquarters.

Reportedly, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” will take over Studio 6A which previously housed late-night shows hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien and even David Letterman. A new state-of-the-art studio will be built over the summer along with space for technical facilities and support services.

The move to New York stems from Clarkson’s desire to be in an area with more than “one season,” she said in an interview with Variety last year. New York’s newly expanded tax credit also incentivizes eligible productions that relocate to the state by reducing the eligibility requirement from five years of filming to just two years, specifically for talk and variety shows.

Besides Clarkson herself, those expected to be heading to the North East include executive producer and showrunner Alex Duda and musical director Jason Halbert. Variety notes through a source that “details are still being ironed out regarding the show’s entire staff,” much of whom have been with the show since it debuted in 2019.

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” enters a demanding market in terms of gathering an in-studio audience, joining the likes of staples “The View,” “Live with Kelly and Mark,” “Tamron Hall,” “The Drew Barrymore Show” and “Sherri.” Only “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and “The Talk” remain Los Angeles-based daytime talkers.

So far this season, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has averaged 1.37 million daily viewers. It took over the coveted 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT time period on the Owned NBC stations previously occupied by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Already renewed for a fifth and sixth season, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is cleared to air through at least the 2024-2025 television season.

Watch a clip below from a recent performance of Clarkson’s where she debuts her new song, “Mine.”
