BTG: January 2026 Discussion Thread

I think the show made the wrong choice keeping Ashley over Derek. Derek had chemistry with almost everyone, everyone other than Ashley, whereas Ashley I don't know.
And Thomas certainly should be dumped or recast.
Given how much the writers love Joey, it's not surprising to see him in the opening credits. What I don't understand is why they had to make him so dark. He is responsible for two murders so far. I'm guessing he's not going to pay for any of that this season..

Yeah, I think we're STUCK with Ashley for a while, as she's been more integrated into the canvas than Derek ever was. Hopefully, we'll see better writing for her, and hopefully she'll take an acting class or two.

Did we get a glimpse of the elusive "Victor's men" today?!

The whole episode felt weird. The actors are capable but these were like speeches from a movie or a novel... all the women throwing themselves at you, how you like the rough ones...because this storyline never happened onscreen, nor did the supposed intense love story between Noah and Sienna. All basically new characters, brought in way at the end of a long story arc for the climax, and likely all dropped as quickly as they came in. Just bizarre storytelling.

The ending there felt a bit like a nod to the latest season of Dexter.

Thats the point. He was a troubled youth. He's since gone to college, and grad school and his days being a teenage bad boy are long behind him. The only one who has an issue with him is Elon and that seems more to do with him leaving town and not following in the family's footsteps

And I disagree that both brothers are do-gooders. Jacob is a boy scout that must follow the law and do right at all turns. Izaiah seems more relaxed

Well, I think all three are equally bad. But Tomas is the only one with strong connections to the core-family. And Ashley seems to be a personal fave of MVJ, plus Ashley has tangental connections to the Duprees. So that leaves Derek as the expendable one. He has nothing but a a friend or two and a weirdly troubled romance with Ashely to leave behind. No relatives, no work colleagues (aside from a few under-fives who show up occasionally), and no relationship to any of the important storylines from the first year. If TPTB wanted to axe one of those three, I think Derek is the obvious choice. Just my opinion.

I know Tony and Megan had their fans and I recall Jones and Bontatibus had chemistry but Jay B, may he RIP was also probably too old be playing Tony. Scotti probably was too but ya know gay men never look their age 😂
Regardless I feel like Tony still would’ve been killed off even if Scotti was in the role. Or at the very least Tony and Megan written off into the sunset in early 2000. Despite the buildup Tony and Megan’s forbidden young love arc was quickly eclipsed by the start of Billy and Mac. Also characters like Cole, Grace, and Callie were all written out around the same time period making room for the even younger Glo by Jabot teen set

Knots Landing

I have been watching seasons 12-14 over the past several days. Some observations.
Gary & Tidal Energy......When he loses the ranch due this mess, it would have been an interesting plot twist if J.R. had been behind it and takes possession of the ranch. It could have opened up a final showdown with Gary/Val/J.R.. The Bobby back from the dead ruined any crossovers. Thanks Patrick Duffy with your stupid screw up.
Too Much Paige......and the guy of the week she's sleeping with.
The Mary Robeson Plot....re-written backstory of Laura's mother not being dead. I'm still in the middle of re-watching this unfold. Kevin Dobson and Michelle Lee loved chewing scenery with the Meg crap. They would continue with the Meg drama in "Back to the Cul-de-sac" (1997)
Gary/Kate.......ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Karen The Vigilante..........Karen goes ape crap and takes off in her Lincoln Town Car after being shot with a paint gun which results in the car crash of the teen boys (with Jason in the car). Karen was off the rails by the point.
Val's Brain Virus.........the writers obviously hated Joan Van Ark by this time and made her look like an idiot every chance they got.
