Maury Povich, Connie Chung

Former daytime talk show host Maury Povich has joined the world of podcasting with “On Par with Maury Povich,” a new weekly series that takes the 86-year-old back to journalistic roots for an unfiltered, in-depth conversation with some of today’s most influential voices, including legendary athletes, groundbreaking journalists, cultural icons and many more.

Debuting earlier this week, the first episode features Povich having a sitdown conversation with his wife, journalist Connie Chung.

In the premiere episode, titled “How Maury and Connie Became America’s Favorite TV Power Couple,” the two share a fearless, funny, and refreshingly honest conversation about power, press, and partnership, among other topics.

When Chung if he was okay with returning from his long-running talk show, Povich indicated he was happy to retire, noting, “That was two years ago. Don’t you think you could’ve asked me earlier?” In response, Chung said, “Well, you didn’t have a podcast.”

“I’m happy that the show ended,” Povich continued. “It ended at the right time because it’s not really over. Because if I turn on the TV every single day, there’s the show.”

“Ssometimes, I watch because I can’t remember that segment,” Povich pointed out, laughing, saying, “just like everybody else,” he, too, wanted to find out who the daddy was during those infamous “You are the father” and “You are not the father” episodes. “I wanna watch the show and find out like any other viewer!”

Speaking of which, Povich also revealed he would consider adding that aspect to the podcast, but he’d like to address another concept in particular first.

“I’ll tell you what I am gonna do,” Povich teased Chung. “We used to have these out-of-control teenager shows, which were really something, and so I’d like to find out how these kids who thought that they could run the streets and do anything they wanted to — I want to see what happened to them 20 years later. So I think I’m gonna have them on the show.”

In 2023, Povich received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for his broadcasting work in the field of daytime television.

“I have always had great respect for its work as I served on the National Board and was President of the New York Chapter,” said Povich at the time of his achievement. “I guess if you hang around long enough, some good things happen. It’s been a 60+ year ride for me in this business, so I feel extremely blessed with this acknowledgment.”

Povich’s podcast is being produced by his MoPo Productions, A Better Life Media and Radley Studios, with the journalist also serving as an executive producer alongside Holly-Jaye Mirabella and Christian Thompson. Michael Boornazian is the supervising producer.
