UPDATED: ABC’s broadcast of “The 97th Oscars” on Sunday, March 2 was the most-watched and highest-rated program of the night, pulling in a 4.54 rating among Adults 18-49 and 19.693 million, marking a five-year high for the awards show in both categories.

Compared to the earlier reported fast nationals (18.07 million), Final Live+Same Day viewing figures indicate that an additional 1.645 million viewers tuned into the Academy Awards this year, primarily driven by younger viewers using mobile/tablet and PC devices.

Additionally, in the key Adults 18-49 demo, the show was up from its initially reported 3.92 rating, and up another +19% from the programs performance last year (4.54 rating vs. 3.82 rating). Meanwhile, among Adults 18-34, the Oscars saw a significant increase among younger viewers, particularly younger males, rising remarkably over the 2024 telecast (+28%, 3.92 rating vs. 3.05 rating) and hitting a six year high (since 2/24/19).

Overall, the Oscars now stands as the most-watched and highest-rated entertainment program of the 2024-2025 television season, and was the the most social program of the season for the first time on record (104.2 million), topping last month’s broadcasts of “The 67th Annual Grammy Awards” on CBS (102.2 million) and “Super Bowl LIX” on FOX (62.4 million).

Overall, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences noted that the Oscars saw an increase of +82% year-over-year in social engagement across all platforms, including Hulu, where it streamed live for the first time, reaching 64 million likes, comments and shares.

The ASL livestream on the official Oscars YouTube channel received 1.4 million views.

Immediately following the Oscars, ABC broadcast a 30-minute preview of the upcoming season of “American Idol,” which was viewed by 5.93 million viewers and earned a 0.84 rating among Adults 18-49. The post-Oscars viewing was the talent competition series’ best performance for a season launch in three years (since February 27, 2022) among Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

On Sunday, March 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, “American Idol” officially kicks off its eighth season on ABC with episodes available to stream the next day on Hulu.

    • Dear sweet June, you'll get it right eventually.  In the meantime it's a good chuckle.

    • Damn, Leslie went in on Shanice... poor girl! Leslie really can't handle stress or certain emotions well, she lashes out. I also think it's weird she wants to know so many details about Eva's love/sex life. Vernon was sweet to June. It was nice (realistic) to see a customer complain to her though while she's still trying to establish herself. I'll be that guy, but for me personally, my enthusiam/excitement over the show has stalled yet again over the last couple weeks. For the majority, it seems like we're in a holding pattern until Winterfest. It's like they don't want to rock the boat or do much until then, which leaves us in a quiet period here. Are sweeps a thing still these days? Seems odd that we're having a slow November. That ending was good, but I saw that coming... in theory it should have a quick resolution, but I'm guessing Leslie will expose it at Winterfest and it'll get throw out of proportion haha.
    • Yes. Why? I don't really care. Vanessa is also acting dumb, trying to run between tables, on a date with Ross in one room and a business meeting with Alan in another.  One of the few times Van is written as less than the smart woman she was.
    • I've been specifically looking for the episodes for Ross and Van together, because they essentially both raise Dinah at that period and the recaps around her typically avoid the Dorie years, the carnies, or Alan-Michael and Cam. I'm really just trying to trace a throughline between Paige, Wendy, and Gina. The last two are "easy," but it just messes with my timeline when Dinah thinks Alan-Michael would kill Ross. Then again, that Alan-Michael slept with his own stepdaughter, so...
    • Anyway...they literally mentioned the secret room today on Days and yes, this show needs a Kristen lesbian story lol.
    • Yes, they did a 'premiere' of Maggie's death episodes at the ArcLight theatre in Los Angeles, arguably then the nicest movie theatre chain in the USA. Plus, Suzanne and Deidre were in a ton of scenes together during this time. Whatever happened between them happened after 2004.
    • There are episodes with Jenny (Mary Ellen Stuart) that she was in pre-writers strike.. and I know that she lasts until at least August 1988. It's a shame that the show didn't try pairing her with Rusty since the two had more chemistry than she had with Ross and that he had with Rose.
    • Was that when she put on the"Slut of Springfield" red dress and made a complete ass of herself at the CC, so of course Alan fell madly in love with her on the spot?
    • Oohh...now I'm not sure. Long did come back in '87, didn't she. She broke up Ross and Vanessa almost from her first minute back. Van and Ross are at the Country Club when Josh dumps Reva. And Reva dramatically drapes herself on the CC stairs.
    • Glad you enjoyed watching. Yes, Michael seems like fun. I am always interested in more of these niche talk show appearances.
