In response to Duell’s decision to leave the series, executive producer Frank Valentini took to X (formerly Twitter) late Saturday evening, saying in a statement, “I am sad to confirm the news of Chad Duell’s forthcoming exit from ‘General Hospital.’ I have loved working with Chad over the years and wish him nothing but the best. He is a terrific actor and will be missed by everyone at ‘GH.’”

For those wondering what Duell’s exit might mean for the character, Valentini indicated that there are still plenty of “great” stories to tell for Michael as the countdown begins toward Duell’s exit, but there are no immediate plans to recast the character at this time.

“There are no plans to recast his role at this time, but you never know in daytime,” Valentini noted. “I can promise a great story for Michael and his family when Chad exits in the new year.”

Before joining the cast of “General Hospital” in April 2010, Duell was best known for his roles in two of Disney Channel’s most iconic series – “Wizards of Waverly Place,” playing Ronald Longcape, Jr., and “The Suite Life on Deck,” where he played the recurring role of Holden.

From 2002-2008, Dylan Cash portrayed the role of Michael Corinthos. After the character suffered a brain injury after being shot in the head, the show temporarily rested the character, literally, by placing him in a coma.

By 2009, Drew Garrett had taken over the role but was later let go after just a year with the series. At the time, Michael had just murdered his stepmother, Claudia Zacchara (Sarah Joy Brown), with him and his father, Sonny (Maurice Benard), frantically trying to hide the truth from the world. “We want to thank Drew Garrett for his time with ‘General Hospital’ and wish him well in all his future endeavors,” a rep said in a statement announcing Garrett’s ouster and Duell’s casting. Garrett later received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for his portrayal of Michael, losing the award to former “The Bold and the Beautiful” actor Drew Tyler Bell (ex-Thomas Forrester) in the Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series category.

Outside of the daytime drama series, Duell’s credits include appearances on shows such as “The Bay” and The CW’s “Arrow.” In 2018, he was featured in the Lifetime original movie “Lethal Admirer.”

Throughout his nearly 15-year run in daytime, Duell has received seven Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including three for Outstanding Younger Actor (2011, 2012, 2014) and three for Supporting Actor (2015, 2017, 2023). In 2018, he received a nomination for his role as Adam Kenway during the third season of “The Bay” in the category of Outstanding Guest Performer in a Digital Daytime Drama Series. He won his In 2015, Duell won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

A final airdate for Duell was not known at press time.
