Alison Sweeney, Carrot Cake Murder: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries

After a two-year absence, Alison Sweeney is set to reprise her role as Sami Brady on “Days of our Lives.”

According to TV Insider, which first reported the news, Sweeney is already back taping at the Burbank Studios-based series, with episodes featuring the actress expected to air sometime in 2025.

“I love playing Sami and I am always happy for the chance to come back. We always have to figure out scheduling and such, but if at all possible, I’m so glad to make it happen,” Sweeney said to TV Insider of her return, pointing out how thrilled she was to be asked to come back.

First joining “Days of our Lives” in 1993, Sweeney formally exited the series as a contract player in 2015 after making the tough decision to pursue other projects, including expanding on a long and successful career at Hallmark Media, where she stars, executive produces and even writes made-for-TV movies.

Speaking of Hallmark, Sweeney noted that she is currently working on a new movie for the company that she co-wrote and will executive produce. “I can’t wait to share with everyone the concept. But that will be later this year. I’m really proud of this movie,” the actress said.

As for her return to “Days of our Lives,” details on what brings the character back to Salem are not yet known, but viewers will recall that when the character was last seen, Sami was kicked out of the DiMera mansion after it was revealed that she had been having an affair with ex-husband, Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo). Upon her departure from the house, a stranger immediately took Sami away and she hasn’t been heard from since.

“I remembered Sami’s grand exit storming out of the DiMera mansion,” said Sweeney, recalling the storyline, as she prepares to pick up where things left off. “I was interested to hear how and why they were bringing Sami back to town. With Sami it could be anything,” she added, referring to seeing where the writers would be taking the character next.

On her first day back, Sweeney was able to catch up with some of her co-stars, notably Mary Beth Evans (Kayla Brady), who was in the makeup room as she prepared for her first scenes back. “It was so fun to catch up with her, like no time has passed. We had a great chat, and it was so nice to see her,” shared Sweeney of the experience.

    • Portugal qualifying was the only shocker. I'm really happy for Iceland. IMO, the automatic finalists – Spain, Switzerland and Italy – had the best performances. I love the studio version of Azerbaijan, but on stage, it was a disaster.

    • Randy (Doug's friend who works for Joey) -- Joey told Randy weeks ago that Joey's plan was to get Doug into so much debt that Doug would be forced to get Vanessa's real estate holding turned over to Joey, to use for money-laundering.  That's been the plan all along, which the viewers knew.  The only thing new is that Joey finally told Doug this. I think Joey is written badly.  I also think Jon Lindstrom is doing "Now I am going to act menacing".   But I don't really feel the menace.  It's too overdramatic and it doesn't feel like a real person.  Jon is a fine actor on GH, so I don't know what's happening here -- the entire BTG mobster premise is badly designed/written.  I don't know if Guza pushed for a mobster storyline?  Or did Jon?  (Jon wrote a novel about Hollywood mobsters). It just doesn't fit.  It feels (to me) like this storyline for Jon was just shoved onto the canvas but it doesn't fit all all. Monday's scene of Mona coming into the "casino" to check up on where Leslie supposedly lost money in the slot machines -- and Randy explaining to Mona that there are no slot machines, there is nothing but the card room.  I had to laugh because they had characters comment that it's just a card room and not a casino -- the show is now acknowledging that there's nothing there.  If they are going to do this, then have it make sense for Fairmont Crest residents to visit a high-end glamourous casino, and not a random room with one table. So what money is Joey laundering? A while back, Joey told Vanessa that he knows about her sexual philandering because owns the escort service that she'd been using. But I don't care...  I'd just prefer that the entire mobster storyline go away.
    • I caught up this past weekend. The show is better written, but I have been bored with the show. I did notice it ranked in the top 5 again this week, so that's a good sign.
    • I can't take this show seriously. I truly miss WJB writing this show. Bradley didn't inherit his dad's talent.
    • Maybe if there had been a good close up or two
