Joan Vassos, The Golden Bachelorette, Bachelor Nation

With “The Golden Bachelor” remaining one of the network’s top shows among Adults 18-49, ABC announced in February that it had greenlit a spinoff titled “The Golden Bachelorette,” which will air Wednesday nights this fall.

While presenting its 2024-2025 fall primetime schedule, the network announced that Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, the fan favorite from “The Golden Bachelor,” who self-eliminated herself from the competition when a medical concern with her daughter arose, will seek a second chance at finding love as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette.

Despite other challenges she’s faced along the way – including the heartbreaking loss of her husband after 32 years of marriage – ABC notes that Vassos remains “an embodiment of strength and grace as a devoted mother of four, grandmother of three, and school administrator while finding solace in the music of Elton John, spending time with her dog, and cooking.”

As Vassos steps into the golden spotlight and begins her journey to seek love again, she envisions a future filled with shared moments by the beach and cherished time with family, something she could not find during her brief time on “The Golden Bachelor.”

Speaking of “The Golden Bachelor,” Gerry Turner, who announced alongside wife Theresa Nist on “Good Morning America” that the couple were getting divorced just three months after their live televised wedding, took to Instagram to congratulate Vassos on becoming the Golden Bachelorette.

In his post, he said, “You will be phenomenal as the new representative of a generation. From one Golden to another… relax, breathe and enjoy.”

“The Golden Bachelorette” will air Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. this fall on ABC. Each 90-minute episode will lead to all-new episodes of the comedy “Abbott Elementary.”
