“DETROIT 1-8-7”

What does it take to be a detective on America’s most dangerous streets? Get ready to be part of the action when a documentary crew rolls with some of Detroit’s finest, offering an insider’s glimpse behind the curtain of a Homicide Unit. The cameras unearth the crisis and revelation, heartbreak and heroism of these inner city cops -- moments of raw exposure when they address us directly, as well as private moments when they forget they’re being filmed. There’s the damaged but driven Detective Louis Fitch, a wily homicide vet who is the most respected -- and most misunderstood -- man in the division; Detective Damon Washington, Fitch’s new partner, who finds the first day on the job is a trial by fire, complicated by the imminent birth of his first child; Detective Ariana Sanchez, sexy, edgy and beautiful, who has emerged from a rough background to become a rising star in the department; Narcotics undercover cop John Stone, a streetwise smooth talker, clever and quick with a smile made for the movies, who is teamed with Sanchez -- a combustible pairing rife with conflict and sexual tension; Sergeant Jesse Longford, a 30-year veteran struggling with his impending retirement from the force and the city he loves, who, together with his partner, Detective Aman Mahajan -- a fully Americanized son of Indian immigrants -- form an amusing mismatch of experience and enthusiasm, intellect and instinct, old school and new world, but whose combined skills have never encountered a case that couldn’t be cleared; and all are headed by Lieutenant Maureen Mason, a strong-willed single mom struggling to balance home and work. “Detroit 1-8-7” stars Michael Imperioli (“The Sopranos”) as Detective Louis Fitch, Jon Michael Hill as Detective Damon Washington, James McDaniel (“NYPD Blue”) as Sergeant Jesse Longford, Aisha Hinds (“True Blood”) as Lieutenant Maureen Mason, Natalie Martinez as Detective Ariana Sanchez, D.J. Cotrona as Detective John Stone and Shaun Majumder as Detective Aman Mahajan. The series is produced by ABC Studios. The pilot was written by Jason Richman. Executive producers are Richman, David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman and David Zabel. Jeff Nachmanoff directed the pilot.

    • If this was a Ron episode, Sarah’s choking would’ve lasted almost the entire episode. Javi being revealed as a firefighter EMT and Sarah chastising Xander for wanting to go after Chanel/Sweet Bits the cliffhanger. I’m glad there’s actual movement and progression in these episodes. I vaguely remember Cwikly and Brash tenure being the same with their daily episodes
    • https://www.tvinsider.com/1180503/denise-alexander-dead-general-hospital-lesley-webber Denise Alexander died March 5th & I'm so sad.  The first soap storyline I remember was Susan Hunter Martin (Denise Alexander) & David Martin & Julie Olson & poor little baby Dickie on DAYS.  I followed her to GH, Lesley.  I followed her to AW, Mary/Marisa.  I followed her back to GH.  About her, Christopher Schemering said  In soap magazine polls she was voted Best Actress over & over.  Schemering, C. (1987). The Soap Opera Encyclopedia. Ballantine Books.
    • Good point. In addition to being a great character in her own right, she had chemistry with almost everyone on the show. A Jake/Paulina/Iris triangle would have been a lot of fun. If 1994 AW aired in 2025, I doubt Iris would have even considered to be on the chomping block. All the shows now are noticeably less youth obsessed compared to the 90s.
    • I wrote my previous post about Dante being on a 3-day rant while I was at the 30-minute mark of the show. By the end, Dante was back to being reasonable and kind and understanding of everyone and everything. OK, I get it. We all knew that sooner or later we'd get the wise Dante. The mistake was showing him berate Jason IN THE SAME EPISODE and imply he's a lousy father.
    • I think Dante has a larger GH fanbase than both Ava and Nina character wise.  Both CW and MW have a built in fanbase outside GH which isn't really indictive of the characters, IMO.
    • Just this fan's opinion but I have said these writers are the most plot opportunistic maybe ever! They will have any character say just about anything if it advances whatever plot point they have in their minds atm. I think if Dante's POV right now was defensible people would be running it up the flag pole. The fanbase thing you're describing to me it just means they're going to continue to like their fave no matter what.
    • I think the difference between the head writer change at Days vs GH is that the day to day episode quality at GH was still lacking while the day to day episode quality has improved. And now that there appears to be some depth to the episode content... the limitations of some of the performers on Days is more apparent (i.e. Leo, Alex, Sophia, Cat). However, Rome wasn't built/rebuilt in a day so I'm waiting to see how things are in three to four months once some of the threads/stories from Ron's era are tied up/resolved.. and Ford/Cwikly's long term content kicks off
    • That would be me. hehe. Keeping track of who I liked better and how it informed what would happen from episode to episode.
    • Hey, Mike Manning, hey!!! That shirt and those slacks are working today. lol.   Nice to have this Vanessa/Nicole scene.    Look at Kat vs Eva as a cliffhanger.   I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!!! I KNEW SILK PRESS SHEILA WOULD SHOW UP AT NICOLE'S AT SOME POINT!!!      Another trio of cliffhangers (including Dani vs Ted...another combo today)! Friday cliffhangers indeed!!!
