Lindsey Vonn injured the week she was on the Sports Illustrator cover - could it be the SI jinx again - over 900 bad things happening the week someone has appeared on SI cover-- I was kind of glad that none of US figure skaters were on the cover.

On February 15, 1961, traveling to World Figure Skating Championships ("Worlds") The U.S. Figure Skating team, parents, coaches and judges--34 among the 62 passengers and crew aboard--left New York on Sabena Airlines flight number 548, crashed before landing in Brussels, en route to Prague. There were no survivors. The 1961 World Figure Skating Championships was cancelled after Sabena Flight 548 crash.

Sports Illustrated cover February 13, 1961 - Laurence Owen was billed as "America's Most Exciting Girl Skater." Two days after the cover date, Owen and the rest of the United States figure skating team perished in a plane crash.
