How To Be A Better Husband

‘Marriage is that relation between man and woman in which the independence is equal, the dependence mutual, and the obligation reciprocal’. This quote by ‘Louis K. Anspacher’ totally sums up the meaning of marriage. It requires commitment, adjustments and compromises from both the individuals. A husband has to contribute as much to the marriage as his wife, only then can they expect their relationship to go on smoothly. Usually, husbands are so much involved in their office that they forget to give time to their wives and appreciate their efforts. If you are of them, it is time to correct your mistakes. Read the tips given below to know how to be a better husband.

Tips for Being a Better Husband

Try to develop an interest in the things or hobbies about which your wife is passionate. For example, if she loves to dance, try joining a weekly dance class with her. It will help both of you get closer to each other.

Every few days, give her a day off. Pack the lunchbox for the kids, drop them to school and later, pick them and take them for lunch outside. This way, she will get time for herself and will be totally refreshed when you come home after lunch.

Learn to say sorry for your mistakes. Marriage requires efforts from both the sides. Just as she apologizes if she is wrong, you should also apologize if you are at fault. A simple sorry can help you avoid many major arguments and fights.

Don’t forget to thank her for the efforts she puts in for making your house a home. If she is not perfect, neither are you.

Thank her for putting up with you and accepting you the way you are. This will make her much more accommodating for your faults the next time.

You are no more a kid and should learn to accept the responsibility for your own clutter. Don’t throw the towel on the bed, don’t leave your shoes in the middle of the room and put the used mugs in the sink.

Do small chores for yourself, like getting a glass of water, making the bed, etc. It will give her sometime for herself.

Help her out in the household chores whenever you can. You can start by helping her clean the dishes, lay the table, clear up the table, put kids to sleep, etc.

Make sure that you take time out for just the two of you every few weeks. Get a baby sitter for the kids and take her out for a movie and then a nice, romantic dinner.

Look good. Just as you want your wife to impress others, she also wants you to make a good impression on her friends.

Show your wife that you love her and care for her. It usually happens that after marriage, we forget to say ‘I Love You’. Don’t take things for granted. Express your love and you will see her reciprocating in double amounts.

    • First, let me say I love reading all of your takes and thoughts. They always provide a different point of view... a breath of fresh air... in this sometimes stuffy topic.

You've inspired me to add my 2 cents about this product placement debacle.  I absolutely HATE the way they are doing product placement in BTG. I really hope this doesn't catch on or evolve into more and more of these moments. It's incredibly off-putting to place them in a highly dramatic moment where we are still on the emotional journey with the character. What is next - Dani spraying the house while having a nervous breakdown? It makes me not want to buy the product they're selling. LOL. That's just me.
    • I always get the vibe that Martin/Smitty have an emotional abusive relationship set up... but I doubt the show will really go there with that element given that Martin is a Dupree (and we can't have the Duprees be portrayed in a negative light), and because it's a gay male relationship.   Even though abuse in the physical or emotional sense is a huge thing in a lot of gay and lesbian relationships. The Ashley/Naomi scene reads off to me for one reason....  Ashley was talking about the new scandal without any sort of mention and/or subtext.. considering she knew both Silk Press Sheila and Eva.  I'm not sure if the writers have forgotten, if Jen Jacobs isn't able to play subtext, or what.   It's just apparent the writers do not know how to write a young white millennial couple.. and perhaps they need to get a younger white script writer to be on staff... or let the actors play around with the lines to make them more natural/realistic.
    • This is as good a time as any to point out that the 90 minute show was, what I like to call  "cockamamie idea" of Fred Silverman, head of NBC Daytime Programming. He did so well at ABC & CBS but not so NBC. We learned this from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay, 2006, can be found on YouTube, audio only. Now, to be clear, Rauch was completely behind it. Only Lemay fought against it & eventually quit over it.
    • She was so wonderful. Glad your handle has been a tribute to her.
    • Hopefully Alan has learned to not interrupt or interject with pointless information while someone is in the middle of telling a story. I almost think it would be better if Alan was a producer behind the scenes.. and he just had the actors on screen talking and asking one another questions.  Those interviews tend to work better.
    • It was only recently announced that Denise Alexander passed away on March 5, 2025. She was my all time favorite actress and role model. She will be dearly missed.  Denise Alexander, ‘General Hospital' and ‘Days of Our Lives' Actress, Dies at 85
    • Hopefully Alan will actually read the book beforehand.

    • Am I the only one who immediately thinks of this every time someone mentions Smitty?
