And I'm going to guess that he's not such a nice guy or the hero Shane makes him out to be. On the topic of new characters, I think Ron Carlivati's creations are great. I love Gigi and Charlie, love to hate Jared, adore Talia, and loathe Lee as I am supposed to. It's not like they are in stories independent of the established cast (I'm looking at you, Michael Malone) or coming on without a long term plan.
