Members Dr. Jay S.W.
Ok. Mariane Pearl is not dead. So your saying that because she's not white, that automatically makes her black. You did say woman of color. Come on now.
Members stenbeck212
No, you COME ON. If I wanted to say she was automatically black because she isn't white, I would. I said Jolie did a "woman of color impersonation." What part of that says Marianne Pearl is Black? Damn, it's so easy to quote my very visible exact statement, and you still change it? Since when is a person of color automatically black anyway? And does the answer even change the reality that actresses of a closer ethnic authenticity were brushed aside so Jolie could live an exotic fantasy? Members Dr. Jay S.W.
Exotic fantasy? She was playing a role. She's an actress. Slow your role there pal. And the term "of color" is usually associated with a black person, that's what I'm basing it off of.
Members stenbeck212
No, it's associated with people of color. I guess I have to be the messenger that describes how the term is applicable to a gamut from Latinos to Aborigines. I really don't want anybody to read this thread and go away thinking otherwise, because that's how you accused me of making Marianne Pearl black. This wasn't Eddie Murphy going for laughs in prothetics. A real person got bleached for Jolie's ego! It's the same tactic of purposely miscasting white actors who supposedly have more universal appeal that has gone on for years. Evita. Scarface. The Perez Family. Whether Marianne Pearl approved it or not, the NAACP is being laughed at for its decision in droves.
Members R Sinclair
Then why is the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People recognizing Iranian actress, Nazanin Boniadi? Thank you. A person of color is a term used to describe anyone who isn't of caucasian origin. If you're Pacific Islander... you're of color. If you're Asian... you're of color. If you're Latino... You guessed it! Although I do know some latinos who swear up and down they're white... but that's a whole other issue regarding assimilation, which I won't go into here. But getting back to the topic, I have to agree about miscasting actors to play certain roles. No matter what origin. Like the weird way Hollywood overtime seemed to cast a lot of Jewish actors to play Italians. And a lot of Italians to play Hispanic. And Hispanic to play Black. I can forgive it sometimes, but I think it happens WAY too much in Hollywood.
Members Dr. Jay S.W.
Well, I guess it's just my age. Of color, to me means black, and the NAACP was founded by blacks and Jews but and was originally founded on equal rights for African Americans. Times have changed.
