Executive Musical Chairs & The Risky Business Of Rumor Mongering

Experience has taught us that where there is smoke, there is fire. Unfortunately, all that smoke can make it difficult to ascertain the exact truth. Then, there is the dilemma of deciding when to share what info we receive and how much of it, because information can be inaccurate, incomplete, or the timing of said event can be off a bit. We take the risk of being called uninformed, having agendas, or simply labeled as outright liars. It is an especially risky business when only PART of a story is confirmed in the public, when the timing is off, and/or when certain forces are determined to keep things hush, hush. You know what I mean: That old, 'if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?'.

Yet, daytime fans keep clamoring for something yummy to munch on, they crave and love their junk food (old fashioned gossip), but want to sue the manufactures when it makes them fat. No matter that the junk food may not be full of nutrients (facts), and that it comes with warnings (rumor, spolier!), or that it is not particularly good for you, it has its own appeal. With that in mind, I have finally decided to proceed with caution, and let our readers in on what I am hearing. Just keep in mind that everything I am telling you is unconfirmed....got that? Unconfirmed. If you only want accurate facts, skip this and find something else to do. All that said, I am willing to go out on a limb and provide some of the stuff you crave.

Something big may be happening over at ABC Daytime. People have been in contact with their sources and placed their heads and info together over the last several months, trying to pin down the details. Several versions of similar stories are seen, some of which contradict the others. Possible scenarios:

1. John F. Smith may take over Head Writing duties on GH

2. Jill Farren Phelps is exiting her position as EP. Based on what we know, we guess this may, (along with other factors) have a lot to do with certain actors on GH refusing to sign new contracts unless she had no say-so over them (think Jacklyn Zeman (BOBBIE) who almost did not re-sign with the show over issues with JFP; Anthony Geary (LUKE) who we hear may have gone to bat for Jacklyn)

3. Wendy Riche may return to ABC Daytime in some capacity (OLTL's EP?)

4. Casting: ABC approached Christie Clark (ex-Carrie, DAYS), Renee Jones (ex-Lexie, DAYS) about joining their shows. Beth Ehlers Harley on GL) spent an hour with GH's casting director at the 2006 Daytime Emmys. This may mean something.

5. Leaving AMC: Jacob Young, Kelli Giddish, Alec Musser

6. Leaving OLTL: Tobias Truvillion

7. Kay Alden is given the choice to HW AMC or OLTL; serves as consultant on both shows for now

Anyone else with more info? Who's in? Who's out? Who's hot? Who's not?

It is also possible that this is all just a bad case of junk food poisoning. So, here is your dish, take your chances with it, or not. You can choose to pick out the best of the morsels to savor or turn your nose up at, or swallow it whole, or simply heave the whole thing into the garbage disposal- your junk food has been served.

I'm really concerned about this: "1. John F. Smith may take over Head Writing duties on GH". JF Smith was not terrible on Y&R, he was very good from late 03-04, but I don't want him to be GH's HW or EP if the current ones quit or are fired. Yes, RG Jr. & JF Phelps have had their chance to shape GH, but Smith shouldn't be allowed to have his chance. Remember Y&R in 2005? I rest my case.

    • I do think there's room for optimism, especially with Amazon making enough new episodes to last until December. There's still time for the various players to get their ducks in a row. Guess we'll know soon enough!
    • I do agree it's better to just have people pop back into town. I never understood why Roger needed a mask on an island, when neither Fletcher or Alex would've known who he was. And the vine...sigh. Couldn't he have just been sent crashing through a window or something?
    • When the announcement was first made, I did wonder if other plans were in the works. I guess we can always keep hoping, especially as the show has a small core cast.
    • @chrismlAbout Lisa, agree to disagree. Actually at the time she was the only thing my partner & I disagreed about. Naturally she was Team Vicky while I was steadfast as Team Lisa.  About John & twin paternity, I think that like the 3 pillows was a transitory idea someone had that no one else agreed with. More of the attempt to accommodate Philece. About MJ, co-sign, 100% agree, if there were more degrees I would claim them. About Wally & Felicia, always a fan. Mitch? Eh, take or leave. Although I do agree that WGE is a really striking man. Who have I left out? I don't know so that's all I got.
    • RIP Wayne Lewis.

    • Dallas peaked early, IMO. Maybe not a fair statement as I’m still making my way through the first half of its run, but I think it’s hard to argue to point that S3 into S4 was its high point. Back to Knots. Wrapping up “And Never Brought to Mind.” Greg’s introduction kinda took me by surprise. I low-key dreaded his arrival bc I know he very quickly gets to the center of the show, but even though they wasted no time connecting him with Mac, Abby, Gary, and Karen, it still feels like a gradual intro. The juxtaposition of the ending of the Chip story with the heating up Abby’s plotting is quite symbolic of the changes the show was going through. I absolutely cannot imagine Kenny and Ginger having any part in any of this. Yall, the Gary/Val piano theme that they pull out from time to time is my FAVORITE. I find myself humming it constantly.
    • Bloodshed is inevitable now. It’s another reason I’m glad Black people aren’t getting involved in these protests. As awful as this is, I keep reminding myself that 54 percent of Latino men voted for Trump. These people were put in harm’s way by members of their own communities and sometimes even members of their own families. Too many people decided to touch the stove.
    • Maybe I'm still in denial, but nothing about Neighbours' ongoing social media output gives the vibe of a show that's ending. In today's 'Roundup' video, Alan Fletcher referenced that production finishes in five weeks, but in all the show's posts the cast are as jovial and lighthearted as ever. Remarkably so for people who are about to lose their jobs.    Perhaps they're just putting a brave face on things, and I know they approached the previous axing with a positive attitude. Maybe putting an upbeat face on things is a collective way of showing potential backers that there's still life in the show? Or is it possible that they already know the show has been saved, and we'll get an announcement next month when filming wraps and the show 'rests'?   Does any of that make sense?!
    • A very good week for male eye candy on GH. New Michael is beautiful, Curtis's arms looked great in that polo shirt, Cody looks even more handsome with his new haircut AND we got Marco in swim shorts rocking his lovely bod and chest fur.

    • Yeah when Jamey Giddens did breakdowns for DAYS, he would sometimes state in tweets that specific things were his idea that he had pitched to Ron.
