The Ellison accusation is now the new "but Clinton is worse" whataboutism". It was rolled out a few days ago after the Kavanaugh accusation was publicized and has been being parroted ever since.

He's been parroting the std @GOP line since his ridiculous unproven "facts" posts about healthcare, even refusing to acknowledge a study the Koch Brothers funded showed Medicare for All would save more money ultimately than the so called "great" private market. It's fine to believe these hearings are theatrics but it's not fine pinning theatrics on one side when the other has been the master of it and portraying themselves as victims even as they hold all branches of gvmt, for years. Rebellion is what you get when you are the minority holding the majority of gvmt and corporate power. I'll believe Kavanaugh was some victim at the same time Trump acknowledges the Central Park 5, 15 and 16 year old black teens, who were sent to prison for a rape they ultimately were proven innocent of, are innocent. Funny how young black teens are "adults" in the justice system but not the "educated" 17 year old wealthy white boys. Oh and now if Kavanaugh actually did commit these actions against Dr. Ford, it was "rough horseplay" not sexual assault. I guess "rough horseplay" is the new "locker room talk" Well Lindsey Graham finally showing his true colors again I mean more of this sham hearing I guess. Why have the witness testify under oath, especially considering Judge is the one who wrote the book on the heavy drinking he did(along with Kavanaugh) during their years hanging out together.

Theatrics. Hmmm. Where were you with the criticism of theatrics when Merrick Garland didn't even get a hearing and that the GOP is breaking their own rule with this confirmation? I'll wait to hear your response to that, which I don't expect. Man some of you out there just love infantilizing white men. How about you go over to youtube and watch the theatrics republicans including Orrin Hatch(who yesterday just called Dr. Ford "messed up and crazy") conducted in the Anita Hill hearings if you want to see real theatrics. I also have to ask wasn't it the GOP who went "crazy" with Elena Kagan's records. 97% of her records were released I don't recall your comments about the showboating by the GOP. But when the democrats demand the same treatment for Kavanaugh(only 13% of his records have been released) they are accused of theatrics. Interesting. You know I was all for Al Franken being asked to resign, John Conyers also, until I saw the opposing side come out against these men but not give a crap about anyone on their end. Blake Fahrenthold sat in congress for a year before he resigned and didn't pay back the taxpayer funded sexual harassment settlements while he was serving in congress which he promised to. Where was the GOP demanding that he live up to his word. T So spare me the outrage on Ellison. Ellison should get due process, his accuser should release the evidence she has. And Kavanaugh is getting a hearing. And for sexual assault . So spare me your so called "outrage". Enjoy the entire GOP WHITE MALE DAIS questioning a woman. It worked out so well with Anita Hill. I see Lindsay Graham is also prepping himself to go after Dr. Ford. I'm sure she's being prepped for it but these white men who many continue to infantilize(especially those in congress who get free passes) never learn. https://popular.info/p/the-smear-campaign-against-christine-blasey-ford

I think it's fair to say Monahan suffered obviously in some capacity and I look back at my comments realizing that abuse is not just about physical abuse - actually most is not. That said and not making excuses for Ellison, most politicians are narcissists. You almost have to be. Hopefully as Monahan has suffered, she is getting help also.

So attempted rape is theatrics. You stand in front of every woman who’s been through something similar and you’d be suprised at how many of us are out here. Anita Hill killed off a lot of incumbents in the 1992 election in a shameful display, by a Dias of ALL MEN? Democrats like Joe Biden who controlled the process then have spent years on apology tours and people like me who watched that shameful display will never vote for him. Go right ahead and defend the cowards who are shoving this dirty nominee through and he’s dirty. And I dare you to defend the actions around the nomination of Merrick Garland, who was a compromise pick the GOP praised just a few years before they refused to dare speak with him. As as soon as Ellison’s accuser brings forward that video evidence she claims she has which she did from day 1 we can talk. You want to know how many of us wish we had something on FILM to verify our claims. Even then we still get called sluts and liars and worse.. Also notice how not one other person has come forward with charges against Ellison, very different from someone like Al Franken who had multiple accusers. Misogynist is being generous. This is a rape apologist. And these asshats wonder why women are hesitant to come forward.

-I'm old enough to remember what happened after Anita Hill. There was a wave of females elected to the senate. My mom and I were glued to the testimony on TV. Feinstein keeping this quiet is ironic since she was part of the wave of female senators elected in 1992 as a result of those hearings.

She's hated by the extreme left. She's going to win overwhelmingly in California BUT This reeks of Anita Hill and I am old enough to be glued to the TV with my mom and hating her treatment by the white male dais. Why I can't ever vote for Biden(my vote in 2008/2012 was 1000% for Obama) I would like to know exactly why she held onto this other than to protect the author.

I read that earlier today and was going to post it and appreciate you doing this. It's a lesson most who actually serve and see war ,over those who sit back in DC or anywhere else around the country untouched do not. I wonder if it's we have gotten immune, the media is in bed with the military pushing war narratives, or that it's no longer :"sexy" enough to be on the front page every day or the lead story like it was during Vietnam. Having an all volunteer army is certainly a factor. The interesting point he made is Bin Laden is dead but he's still winning. We continue to expend ungodly amounts of money on our military, expanding our military involvement around the world in the name of ? No one even knows anymore. What I was surprised with were the comments following the Op-Ed. Most of the comments were from people who agreed with the author. Yet here we still are. It's sobering.

Obviously I don't completely understand the parliamentary system but it would be a great thing if these two polar opposites politically could come together and actually work collectively and help solve some of the problems that have contributed to the rise of Neo-Nazism. Maybe it's immigration partially I don't know, but if so, address the problems that contributed to it and solve them. Collectively solving common problems through compromise could show the rest of Western Europe a path to deal with the divides versus everyone going to their corners and digging in. I wish you luck and hope you guys might be able to help show the rest of us the way.

They are filling current vacancies lots of seats they held open under ObAma. Kavanaugh will likely be confirmed but he’s also set h8mself up for impeachment and yes I do believe that will happen in the future once sanity and control returns. 5 years maybe who knows. He’s perjured himself again this week. i know political parties don’t like to set a precedence but frankly I’m done being nice. Obama should have allowed prosecution of the Wall Street crooks by the DoJ(I realize it was Holders decision). And we need to start prosecuting r war criminals I know that the depth of influence etc in the FBI and CIA is great and that a lot of private profiteers have influence, but it’s time to clean things up. If anything I agree with ObAma. trump has exposed a lot of this just based on his own indecency, we are all seeing the glad handling and corruption. And I am glad to hear that he agrees that this anonymous Op Ed. Writer is no patriot. Just someone with zero accountability making decisions they were not elected to make. trump for all his bluster is basically a puppet for the establishment. Once he’s gone they can claim it was all him. I hope he takes them all down.

I am going to venture a guess that when this entire mess is over and the democrats gain control of the entire gvmt - it will happen, we get a Roosevelt like leadership and start expanding the judiciary. Not talking about the lead court but the federal courts. This happened under Roosevelt and frankly I don't give a darn at this point. I've read this point by several legal scholars also. When Roosevelt went around the congress to try and pad the Supreme Court who was ruling a lot of his programs as unconstitutional, he had the support of over 60% of the American people at the time to double the size of the court. Congress both parties detested the idea at the time, yet magically the Supreme Court in place started ruling in favor of his programs.

My guess is polling is showing Trump losing support and the GOP is getting ready to dump him. Other than that I don't care about this Op-ed. Kamala Harris continues to be a badass. Minorities led by black women are going to save us. She's a prosecutor and knows darn well the answer to what she is asking.

It's either happening more or we are hearing about it more. Why is it these mass murders are committed by white men, why are men the ones who commit the most murder? My niece who works for the CDC has talked about the increase in homicides and mass murder and how this should be treated as a public health crisis. That's what the medical community believes also.

They already did lose them in 2016 and we all saw the result. Bernie Sanders lost the democratic nomination by 4 million votes not because of rigging. Much of that was due to turning off the democratic base. What politician running under the democratic umbrella intentionally turns off he party’s voting base and calls them low information voters. The guy who didn’t bother to campaign in the south, lost those primaries, and then called black folks stupid that’s who. And those white lefties who didn’t get their way did what? Didn’t vote or voted for Stein. A temper tantrum because they didn’t get their way. And deliberately wanted to hurt the people who didn’t vote for their savior. black people have different interests? Yeah survival. Where these white lefties know they won’t be hurt. Look at Georgia a state where the first black woman ever in the country can be elected Governor . She’s doing it by working the party base hard and democrats. She’s not going after voters she knows won’t vote for her no matter what. And what do black voters get in return? Georgia announcing the closure of dozens of voting sites in black communities. I wonder what those white lefties will do about this? My guess not a thing. But would expect black folks to turn out in record numbers in that state to vote for someone who wasn’t even interested enough to visit the state in the primary and calls them stupid.- The Aretha Franklin Thread
You touched two of my ultimate favorites. Songs in the Key of Life and Angel. Her sister was a talented singer as well and had some moderate success. The song wasn't intended for Aretha but for Carolyn. Story is as soon as it was finished, Carolyn knew it was her sisters song and the rest is history.- The Politics Thread
Yeah this nonsense over the outrage at Cuomo. No one batted an eye when the jackass in the white house said he knew more than the generals, insulted our military, you know the things the patriotic right supposedly takes seriously. This faux patriotism by the right and even the people in the media is so fake and laughable. And can I say I don't give a crap about Brennan losing his clearance other than the fact it was done for all the wrong reasons. Simply because someone said something bad about 45. The righteous right only cares about their first amendment rights not when it leads to political persecution of enemies. This may have been the one and only honest thing Cuomo has ever said. My niece by the way is a NYC resident and liberal and while she's not a Cuomo fan, he's also been a thorn in the side of DeBlasio which has made some New Yorkers happy at least a few years ago when DeBlasio's admin was mired in scandal.- The Politics Thread
I like her and she shows promise. She's not naïve in some sense. She did work for Ted Kennedy at one time. But I wonder if her success went to her head. She NEVER should have let Bernie use her as he did. And he didn't even endorse her. And the candidates she was stumping for, were not that far policy wise from the people who won. Sure Whitmer in MI is experienced(a good thing) and some potentially questionable ties to the insurance industry, but she has promised to increase the min wage in Mi to 15/hour, overturn Right to Work in Mi, she was solely responsible for getting Medicaid expansion in Mi with a GOP gov and legislature, she's pushing universal pre-school, and has promised to help Flint. She's hardly an establishment stooge. And Sharice Davids also left leaning. All she has said was she wanted a healthcare solution but would not commit to Medicare for All. Other than that all her positions were the same as the guy they supported. I think it's interesting how left so many of these Bernie folks are but were they involved in Missouri getting right to work overturned in Mo. Actions like that will have real impact not stumping and yammering on and on and doing nothing. Michigan activists also got that anti gerrymandering referendum on the ballot in Nov also.- The Politics Thread
I like Ocasio-Cortez but either she's let her victory goto her head or she's extremely naïve. I don't understand why she's running around all over the country with Sanders. I have no idea why they weren't backing Sharice Davids to begin with or why Ocasio even got involved. Sanders didn't even endorse Ocasio in her own primary.- The Politics Thread
Talking about football, I can't remember the article but I did read recently high school football enrollment is down almost 30 % across the country over the past 5 years. Parents don't want their kids playing a violent life threatening game. People can blame the national anthem protests all they want but it seems there are more and more people just not caring and staying away from it. This when interest in soccer in this country is finally showing more substantial increases.- The Politics Thread
People never learn when they put the GOP in charge. Remember how things were rocking away under GWB(except for that pesky war) and crash. The worst part is consumers are being even dumber again. People didn't feel enough pain in 2008 to change their habits. Dumb, https://money.cnn.com/2018/08/01/investing/markets-now-lindsey-piegza/index.html- The Politics Thread
It's so great how Trump and company are sticking it to the elites. So I misspoke Did you bother reading the Business Insider article(I admit I read it after reading a Vox article) so skimmed some of it. Did you actually miss what the article actually said. "According to the Mercatus model, total health spending would actually come in about $303 billion lower in 2031 than under current projections, with $7.35 trillion going to healthcare that year versus $7.65 trillion expected now. Total national health spending would be $2 trillion lower from 2022 to 2031 under the plan, the report found. " Hey guess what you Do pay a fee for Medicare . My mom collects social security and pays 258/month for medicare. It's based on your income and need. She also pays for Medicare part D. Oh and have you ever heard about payroll tax which goes to fund social security and medicare. But also guess what. Medicare does not have a profit goal like Blue Cross does because they are not profit driven. Costs are controlled by providers accepted the fees Medicare agrees to pay them. Your not going to win this . And there is NO rationing of healthcare in Canada. NONE. And their model is far better than ours because we do worse. The Fox talking point you parrot is not going to win this but hey I guess my family and friends who live in Canada, laughing at the stupidity of Americans for falling for the "free market con" are all lying about the healthcare they get. And sure we don't ration healthcare. I'm still waiting for the justification for privatizing defense, prisons, when we end up paying 500% more to profit driven entities. Amazing how much money we would have if we got rid of privatizing gvmt responsibilities. When private entities including manufacturers, banks, insurance companies, can demonstrate that they can operate and provide service without regularly needed to be bailed out by the gvmt, maybe then we can talk about how great privatization is. - The Politics Thread
