I didn’t think Nathan Parsons was the second coming of Jonathan Jackson, so I am not stressed that this was recast. Let’s hope he can act, that’s all that matters. Ethan would be a welcome addition to the canvas. Felicia and Holly is what this show needed. The tow gets clicked right back into place. Who knew Kristina Wagner would become the pivot point for so many storylines? She is being revitalised just like Suzanne Rodger’s Maggie on DOOL was in the 2013/1014 era.

General Hospital: April 2023 Discussion Thread
Willow needs to go the way of Dominique Taub, Kristina Carter Cassadine, and Lily Corinthos... meaning they play better in death than when they were alive. All three characters were insignificant footnotes in the history of Port Charles until their deaths. Not to any of their own faults, they were poorly planned characters with boring/interchangeable personalities. Now they are invoked as being "gone to soon" or the "heart of the family." Let Willow go this way. We'll get a ghostly appearance once every 10 years. The actress and the character are not interesting enough to be part of the Quartermaine legacy. Let's get over this hump fast! There is no greater 60 year cameo I am dreaming of than Rena Sofer as Lois. Give her 3 months to be back at odds with Tracy, Ned, and Olivia. That history is deep and so rich. Your best friend growing-up is now the woman of the manor, in the family that you rejected and did everything you could to protect your daughter from. We have been waiting for this story for decades, finally seeing the Bensonhurst girls onscreen and at odds. This will also give the opportunity for Brooklyn and her portrayer to up her game. I think once she sees Lois in her element, she will understand the legacy and the personality she needs to bring to her role. We know Amanda Setton is a capable actress, we have seen her in enough shows. I think Rena can pull out the personality and the umpf that we need.

Y&R April 2023 Discussion Thread
I would give the show a chance. The last two weeks feel more old-school Y&R than the anniversary! Those blink and you missed them cameos by Mamie, Gina, and Nina were embarrassing. I am loving many of the scenes we are getting now. Christine and Lauren actually got emotional and deep scenes the other day. Danny/ Daniel/ Lucy's portrayers have fallen into a family unit feel so quickly. I am loving all things Diane, and how she flows between the Abbots that love her and the Abbots that hate her. The day-to-day writing during the gala was awful. I am getting so much more out of the Vets on the canvas now post gala.

Y&R April 2023 Discussion Thread
I'm okay with the team moving on from Abby/Chance quickly. I do not think the portrayers have any chemistry. Melissa did have chemistry with Danny Boaz, and she shined with Justin Gaston. I still wonder why they did not revisit that recast. I do not think I have seen a bigger positive outcry for a temporary recast an when Justin stepped in. His physical similarities to Thom Bierdz's Phillip was almost eerie. He shined opposite Tricia Cast's Nina. And for a moment, around Y&R big anniversary, Abby/Chance looked like they could be a flagship couple for Genoa City. Overall, I prefer Connor in this role, but he just does not have chemistry with Melissa. Opposite Sharon, good. Opposite Summer, wow I am already feeling the heat. It just happens, chemistry is so intangible. This is one of the cases where a recast dictates the storyline change. It happens. Remember how none of the Billy's/Kelly's worked after the very steamy affair under Billy Miller and Cynthia Watros? It just happens sometimes, the characters work but the actors do not.

Yes, this was established when Sam came to town. She owned the boat, and Luke came onboard and realised it was the boat given to him by the Cassadines. There was a lot of plays early on for ownership of the boat between Sam, Jax, Luke, Skye, and Faith/Alcazar. i agree, I didn’t think the boat was going to be seaworthy again. I thought it was like the Queen Mary, permanently docked. But they need to fudge this so they can revisit the Ice Princess story, and give Spencer and Trina their Luke and Laura adventure. I’m willing to suspend reality, since I am loving Victor and this umbrella story. I mean, we’re about to see a man use a diamond try to freeze the world again. A moored boat suddenly sailing again is the least impossible part of this plot…

Cody has been a pleasant surprise for me. On paper, he was everything wrong with a character: long lost kid, a timeline that doesn’t make sense, retread of a less than favoured era of a show. But the portrayer has brought a lot of heart and earnestness to the role. His pairing with Britt was great. I am liking his chemistry with Sam.

Amen. This was such a random scene, “Let’s put all the late 20’s girls in a scene.” It’s an interesting nuance. In peak GH/ alanine era there were as many real friendships as there were romantic relationships, especially among the women. You had the older Brownstone group with Lucy/Felicia/Bobbie. You had the 20 somethings with Lois/Brenda/Robin. And you had the teens with Liz/Emily. With the newer characters, boys and girls, it’s like the relationships are only family-based or romantic-based. Does Chase have a friend other than his brother? Does Portia hang out with anyone other than her daughter?

I like Lucy’s cameo. She is a good younger actress. Perhaps she can be in a summer storyline. I also loves that Lucy calls April “Mum.” It gives me hood that Vail will be back one day. Susan Walters is truly amazing. I remember how she was vilified in her first run, namely for replacing a popular actress. But she shines in every scene she is in. She is the lead actress on the show. Talk about a turn of fate.

What is a nurse doing giving Valentin information on Anna’s condition post surgery. Not ONE doctor in the General Hospital cast was available to make appearance? Try harder.

The scenes today with Brooklyn - Willow - Sasha made me realise all three of these ladies are expendable. The actors haven’t been able to create differentiated characters. They are all wheepy, low energy, heroines. With the exception of Brooklyn, they have no significant ties to the canvas. Imagine how this storyline could have been different if the Willow and Sasha were replaced by Serena and Christina Baldwin? That was a missed opportunity, especially with Lucy, Scott, and Kevin mainstays on the canvas. Felicia today earned her “best hair” in the business namesake again.

I admit it, I have a hardon for Tucker. I loved his scenes with Devon today. I like their uneasy relationship. I like Tucker’s subtle but disappointed reaction to Devon passing on McCall. He said so much with his face and body language. I can’t wait to see this role evolve. Does anyone else feel like there is a Tucker/ Victoria pairing coming? I would not hate it. I would also love to see this version of Ashley and Victoria head-to-head, ala the 90’s portrayers battle over Cold Howard. I definitely feel the chemistry between Summer and Chance. I know their real ages are further apart, but these portrayers look good together. Maybe this case pulls them closer together? And Kyle reticence to turn on his mum leads to Summer pushing him away, before she finds herself in Chance’s arms?

Y&R Spoiler: Popular Couple Breaks Up
I think boat has long sailed away. Lauren is such a viable character, and will outlive any pairings with Michael or Paul. Just look at her affair with Carmine. That was HOT.

I’m a minority here, but I hate the character of Luke. He swallows the show, and he’s not that interesting. The show is better balanced without him. I also love Laura as a solo character in the spotlight. I hate when Tony comes back and does everything he can the alienate/eclipse Genie.

I am liking this climax to the Victor Cassadine story. Lots of loose strings are coming together in one storyline: - Lucy, Anna, Valentin are out of hiding - Willow’s transplant is at risk with Leisel abducted - Spencer v. Esme’s story at a turning point with his Sophie’s choice: run off with his brother, or reclaim the life he’s built in Port Charles - Spencer and Trina’s romance against the world - Will Victor pay for his sins? And how do Helena, Holly, Tracy fit in …and it’s a nice balance of veteran actors and newbies. Victor and Spencer are fire together. It has shades of Stefan/Nikolas. Laura is great in her role as the town’s leader, with her hands in everything. Im still waiting to see happy reunions with Lucy. Someone in town has to be happy the she is home.

How would people feel about Scorpio and Elizabeth on GH? Raising Elizabeth’s kids could be his chance to actually raise a kid.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I find Ramona reprehensible and would be disappointed in Bravo if the invite her back. She has showed time and time again that she is a racist. It’s not a generational thing, it’s not ignorance, she is a racist. I like many in NYC have seen her disgusting behaviour in real life. Ebony may not be loved by her cast, but clearly Bravo knows to keep her on their good side. She has been on WWHL since the show’s conclusion. I am sure what she heard and observed is true.

Y&R Spoiler: Popular Couple Breaks Up
Maybe unwilling was the wrong word. She seems happy to appear anywhere from 1-5 times a month. I think her appearances are usually in a block? So with a limited timeframe its hard to build a solid story around the character. There was definitely an era when LLB seemed like she was over Y&R, namely the Latham through Mid-MAB era. But she has been a fairly regular screen presence since, especially for a recurring player. They did not pair Paul/Christine back together until she started to appear more regularly. Remember Paul and Nicky’s and later Nina’s romances from the MAB era? Paul’s fate would have been so different if just ONE of his kids worked out. Heather had the most potential, if only Vail’s substance abuse didn’t force an early retirement. Ricky had a great and beautiful actor, and was served bad writing. Dylan, was an experiment set to fail. Remember when Don Diamont was fired, he said it came down to he or Doug and Doug won because he was in a romance with Nicky that was working. I wonder what would have happened if the roles were reversed? Don had so much chemistry with so many of the leading actresses still on canvas: Sharon, Victoria, Lauren, Ashley. If he was still around, I could see him paired with so many of the actresses on canvas today. His success on B&B with JMW could have been done with one of the younger actresses on YR (Lily! That would be a pairing, and a controversy). Even his kids, Colleen and Abby, were more interesting that Paul’s. They are more memorable and have had more memorable runs. Don was always the more interesting and captivating actor. Walking sex.

B&B April 2023 Discussion Thread
I don’t watch this show enough to understand the stories. But, I have to say this show still looks classic Bell. The sets, the lighting, the unique camera angles, even the roaring fire place fire… it feels like what Y&R once was. Gosh, I guess Ed Scott can still wield his magic somewhere. I loved the innovative thinking of having Ridge and Brooke eating their dinner on the floor at the coffee table. I’m sure the reason behind it is the lack of a dinning room set for Brooke, but it was a natural and realistic thing to do. The fire burning behind them, the close-ups, classic soap. Can this production team come over and teach their Studio City neighbours how it is done? I get better filmography from Lauralee Bell’s reels than the show!

The crazy part is that show is actually in a position where they have enough vets and portrayers in those actual clips! Felicia, Max, Kevin, Lucy, Bobbie, Monica, Ned, Elizabeth are all still on the show. You don’t have conflicting Emily/Lucky/Nikolas recasts to contend with. Now more than ever they can play clips without blacking our faces or strategically editing. No Ned performance. No finale song. No Lucy in her underwear. Does this even count as a Nurses’ ball?

General Hospital: April 2023 Discussion Thread
Agreed. Especially with the majority of the cast in one room, there should have been a toast acknowledging the major players. There should have been more “remember when” flashbacks montages. I think the AMC 30th Crystal Ball is a good example of this. Heck, even in the 40th Anniversary in the darkest days of Guza/Pratt we got commercial intro-outros with flashbacks.

I liked the Sharon and Billy/Kyle scenes. I like this new version of Sharon as the town sage at Crimson Lights. It reminds me of Gina in the late 80’s/90’s. She was in the mix of everything, and maintained a bite. This nuanced version of Kyle is so welcome: being torn between helping Summer, while protecting Diane. I wish we could have more of these subtle acting moments from him. He doesn’t always have to be screaming. The Daniel/ Summer sibling relationship is very good. These portrayers have great chemistry. Daniel really feels like her brother, a chemistry I think all the Summers lacked with either the Daniel/ Noah(s). I also like the Daniel is the one spiralling, while Summer takes action. Girls truly rule the world. Trevor St. John is hotter than ever. His pecs thorough that button up shirt… he is the leading Chancellor man that we all deserve.

I feel like I missed an episode. Where is the fallout from Lucy’s return from the dead. The room was literally full of her friends. Where was the payoff from having her out of Port Charles for months? You literally have spent months building up to this moment, and you just skip it? It’s like playing a song, and skipping the last verse. So many missing notes. Let’s add GH to the “how not to write a show anniversary” guide.

Did I miss the Nurse’s Ball finale? Could have had least gotten a 60 years montage? This was a story without a climax. …and literally Ned and Olivia were day players. Do they even get paid without any lines?
