  1. Yeah, a couple of years before. IIRC Doyen, she had such a distaste for the guy she doesn't even refer to him by name in her book. To me, Arthur Burghardt will always be: There was an episode on WoST where Carla was grieving her husband's death, and I believe it was Jenny who she gave one of his nicknacks ("...it's from Keenya"). Was that Dr. Jack Scott?
  2. Madchen, another one. I always thought Darren Starr had a thing for the name Carrie until duh I realized he didn't write the SATC books, but the off-beat looking leads with their cigarettes and quirkiness... Raquel rocks some VERY Alexis-like threads, the hats in particular. My mom thought she looked like a witch, especially in this one outfit where she's looking like Grace Jones in Boomerang. I can't believe it was only 8 eps, and Raquel isn't even introduced until like 2 or 3 in. They could have squeezed 8 more out. Oh well... And Gerald Major Dad McCraney and Noelle Beck, it seems so bizarre and random the more I think of it.
  3. I have a feeling you aren't going to like the revamp. Well, not as much as the original at least. The other characters kind of suffer, take some weird turns and as I was saying about Kylie, some backseats to the new blood.
  4. Beyond the coloring and their at times similar hairstyles, it's something about the roundness of the eyes and their heads, hard for me to put a finger on. Whatever it is, I sensed it the moment I saw Bree for the first time yet not at all with Erin's temp Maggie Andersson. I dunno.
  5. I agree, I was never taken by Jen. I thought she was kind of blah and annoying. Her death brought about JPL's perhaps finest acting moment on the show though.
  6. Me too, like the first three times I saw it.
  7. Wasn't Kylie's first scene a shot of her leopard pumps stepping out of a cab? I seem to remember that. I don't remember much about her run in the original series, but it's definitely a matter of making room for Raquel in the revamp. I'll comment more on that stuff when you've finished. I really liked Ron Leibman (Jessica Walter's husband!) in this, he was a good soap villain, and I think TV had really shied away from the idea of portraying a rich, dastardly New York Jew up until this point.
  8. LOL, I do enjoy those WLS interviews but they do take a noticeable turn where you feel like Dr. Should-less is pushing the interviewees' shoulders back onto a brown tufted leather sofa.
  9. Madeline was of course Mae ("Sister Woman") in the original Broadway and film versions of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She was one of Williams' favorites, she did a couple of his pieces.
  10. Ohhh, gotcha, that makes sense. I was imagining little Robert Vaughn with that receding hairline and humorless expression. And I totally agree about the in-depth, intelligent feel, the level of sophistication of these interviews. More like what you'd expect from interviews with film stars in the "better" magazines. It's been forever since I've picked up a SOD, but those interviews grew very featurey, a lot of tongue-in-cheek and actors trying way too hard to sound way too cool and just coming across as tools, the younger men in particular. These were real New York actors.
  11. “I have to tell you something funny. I was in an acting class for a few months, and Robert Vaughn, Jack Nicholson, Sally Kellerman, Robert Blake, Sheree North, Ann Francis, Barrie Chase, and Leonard Nimoy were all in that class! Nicholson and Kellerman had never acted before. Blake had been a child star, but was then in the dumperoos.” What an impressive group of pupils! I didn't know that Robert Vaughn was a kid actor. And I'm totally stealing "dumperoos" from here on out.
  12. Wow, an actress getting pregnant and giving up her baby for adoption all within the public eye, I mean, could you IMAGINE that happening today??
  13. I liked the Helen interview too, that's a trip about people just ringing up her listed number and her answering like that. Wait, Michael Fairman, that's not...
  14. Kate was only 19!? Dood, that's an interesting name. She's glad she wasn't born a Gen X or Y'er, though I'm sure she didn't exactly go unscathed.
  15. Marc Menard as Joey? No no no no no, that's worse than Bruce Michael Hall. Krista as Blair, wow, that they'd even consider that given her closer physical resemblance to a Tina. Trevor St. John has always reminded me of another Kevin, Jack Armstrong, so I could see that.
  16. Does anyone remember that show called Young Americans? They had a girl on there who was passing as a boy, I don' remember the actress' name but I think she was also on The L Word. She was involved with Ian Sommerhalder on YA. Don't think she was transgendered though, just trying to attend an all-boys school iirc.
  17. I can see the Terry Lester/Mark Pinter thing.
  18. Betty Runnel. I could make out Betty, then I cross referenced. I couldn't find anything else about her online, not even an IMDb/IBDB/ITDB entry, maybe she worked under another name, was solidly off-off-Broadway, or even some crew member's aunt.
  19. Yeah, I don't want to unfairly judge but I can imagine Constance Ford rolling her eyes at this chick. This was Robin's first foray into being recast with a lookalike by Rauch. Would still like to see her Rachel in action though I know that'll ptobably never happen.
  20. Oh, and do you recognize C.C., Peter Mark Richman, from DYNASTY? He was Blake's lawyer, he got the part at the last minute as Lloyd Bochner had a heart attack and couldn't procede.
  21. I don't know much about Santana or SB for that matter but just watching that again made me think of how utterly soapy it all was, first of all a name like SANTANA, all that '80s California glam, Dame Judith Anderson in the vintage Rolls complete with riding crop and funky cello, what it must have been like to watch this first episode "live" that day... ITA re: Margie, I had to bend my brain a little to see the Strasser resemblance which apparently won her the part. LOL at the GoGos reference, I know just what (who) you mean. Jane something... "'I. Am. Your singing telegram!' *POW!*" Yes, that must have been the Melinda ep I saw, it was in b&w kinescope.
  22. I know what you mean about Melinda. Years before I actually saw it I'd read others' comments that she was too old for Jill at the time she played her. On WoST there was an ep from whatever soap she'd done back in the day, I'm forgetting which one at the moment, but she seemed to be very much in the Rachel Davis mold of character. Interesting seeing as how she and Victoria Wyndham both played Charlotte Bauer on GL. That's another character I'd like to see in action. I'd also like to see Margie Impert's Rachel. Margie was in the first episode of Santa Barbara: <object width="500" height="405"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/CA1i1K45gCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&start=345rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1"></param><param'>http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/CA1i1K45gCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&start=345rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/v/CA1i1K45gCs&hl=en_US&fs=1&start=345rel=0&color1=0x5d1719&color2=0xcd311b&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="405"></embed></object>
  23. "It was a bit more like Liz Taylor meets Mrs. Roper." HILARIOUS. And I can totally picture that. Yes, Fabiani subbed for Zaslow, I mentioned that in my first post in this thread, and indeed, he was a rather sleepy Roger as he was a rather sleepy Jared Chase, King Galen, Barry Shire... One of these days I will get to uploading stuff I have on YouTube, I have scenes of him with Sherry Stringfield and Beverlee McKinsey. I feel like wry, smug Trevor St. John is more MZ Roger Thorpe than any of his age-appropriate recasts were.
  24. Carl, I think you said that you've seen the stuff with Carole Shelley, I have yet to see that. What's your take? I think I remember you saying that she was a bit *theatrical*. She would not be my choice for Iris but she was nevertheless a casting coup coming off of her The Elephant Man glory. Would have loved to see Sandy Dennis as Iris, she and Beverlee both did Honey in WAOVW.
  25. That must be on the second link, I only have the first link with all the Iris stuff, some of which has been uploaded to YouTube. I didn't even know that Cecile was on the show when Iris was still around.
