Central Park West Discussion Thread
I think DaytimeFan's point is that she takes herself too seriously, I think we are all in agreement about the acting, it's just a matter of semantics (forced=OTT=mannered=studied=tries too hard=bad acting , sorry Raq, you look like a million though )

Degrassi: The Next Generation
♫Everybody wants somethin', they'll take yer mon-ayyy....♫ Yes, they were the Zit Remedy in Jr. and just the Zits in Sr.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
AMS, I am such a dork, I got such a grin on my face when I read that. It's cheesy but please stick with it! My two loves, Lucy and Caitlin. You'll see a couple of familiar faces. You have to watch all five seasons, Jr. and Sr. high, they go by like *that*! TNG got me hooked, but I honestly think it was watching the original series that cemented my love of the franchise.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
I have zilch cable at the moment, I guess I'm going to have to log on a week behind like I do with the A&E shows, Intervention, Hoarders... I wanna watch, and I think that circus/carnival promo was well done, artsy while remaining pretty literal and not going over the kiddies' heads.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
WHAAAA?? Imagine the squinty puffy eyes on THAT baby. So when does the movie air and when does the season start? If I jump in and just start watching for this new format I'm going to have to to it all online as I don't have that channel anymore.

Primetime Soaps
Happy belated Chris! Did you finish CPW? I wonder what Dianna would have been like if she was played by Ron Leibman's real-life wife, Jessica Walter. Shohreh Aghdashloo would make a great primetime soap bitch. That voice.

ALL: Temporary Replacements
They were for AE, but it's always been my understanding that they were actual recasts. I think MC was in the role for the shortest period of time.

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
My mind went reeling back to childhood memories of hearing Larry Haines' voice in commercials. I can't remember any specific ad, but I certainly do remeber that voice, never made the connection until now. I'm pretty sure he did a department or toy store ad around Christmas.

ALL: They Almost Became
Yeah, a couple of years before. IIRC Doyen, she had such a distaste for the guy she doesn't even refer to him by name in her book. To me, Arthur Burghardt will always be: There was an episode on WoST where Carla was grieving her husband's death, and I believe it was Jenny who she gave one of his nicknacks ("...it's from Keenya"). Was that Dr. Jack Scott?

Primetime Soaps
Madchen, another one. I always thought Darren Starr had a thing for the name Carrie until duh I realized he didn't write the SATC books, but the off-beat looking leads with their cigarettes and quirkiness... Raquel rocks some VERY Alexis-like threads, the hats in particular. My mom thought she looked like a witch, especially in this one outfit where she's looking like Grace Jones in Boomerang. I can't believe it was only 8 eps, and Raquel isn't even introduced until like 2 or 3 in. They could have squeezed 8 more out. Oh well... And Gerald Major Dad McCraney and Noelle Beck, it seems so bizarre and random the more I think of it.

Primetime Soaps
I have a feeling you aren't going to like the revamp. Well, not as much as the original at least. The other characters kind of suffer, take some weird turns and as I was saying about Kylie, some backseats to the new blood.

ALL: They Almost Became
Beyond the coloring and their at times similar hairstyles, it's something about the roundness of the eyes and their heads, hard for me to put a finger on. Whatever it is, I sensed it the moment I saw Bree for the first time yet not at all with Erin's temp Maggie Andersson. I dunno.

ALL: They Almost Became
I agree, I was never taken by Jen. I thought she was kind of blah and annoying. Her death brought about JPL's perhaps finest acting moment on the show though.

ALL: They Almost Became
Me too, like the first three times I saw it.

Primetime Soaps
Wasn't Kylie's first scene a shot of her leopard pumps stepping out of a cab? I seem to remember that. I don't remember much about her run in the original series, but it's definitely a matter of making room for Raquel in the revamp. I'll comment more on that stuff when you've finished. I really liked Ron Leibman (Jessica Walter's husband!) in this, he was a good soap villain, and I think TV had really shied away from the idea of portraying a rich, dastardly New York Jew up until this point.

LOL, I do enjoy those WLS interviews but they do take a noticeable turn where you feel like Dr. Should-less is pushing the interviewees' shoulders back onto a brown tufted leather sofa.

"Secret Storm" memories.
Madeline was of course Mae ("Sister Woman") in the original Broadway and film versions of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. She was one of Williams' favorites, she did a couple of his pieces.

Ohhh, gotcha, that makes sense. I was imagining little Robert Vaughn with that receding hairline and humorless expression. And I totally agree about the in-depth, intelligent feel, the level of sophistication of these interviews. More like what you'd expect from interviews with film stars in the "better" magazines. It's been forever since I've picked up a SOD, but those interviews grew very featurey, a lot of tongue-in-cheek and actors trying way too hard to sound way too cool and just coming across as tools, the younger men in particular. These were real New York actors.

“I have to tell you something funny. I was in an acting class for a few months, and Robert Vaughn, Jack Nicholson, Sally Kellerman, Robert Blake, Sheree North, Ann Francis, Barrie Chase, and Leonard Nimoy were all in that class! Nicholson and Kellerman had never acted before. Blake had been a child star, but was then in the dumperoos.” What an impressive group of pupils! I didn't know that Robert Vaughn was a kid actor. And I'm totally stealing "dumperoos" from here on out.

Wow, an actress getting pregnant and giving up her baby for adoption all within the public eye, I mean, could you IMAGINE that happening today??

I liked the Helen interview too, that's a trip about people just ringing up her listed number and her answering like that. Wait, Michael Fairman, that's not...

Kate was only 19!? Dood, that's an interesting name. She's glad she wasn't born a Gen X or Y'er, though I'm sure she didn't exactly go unscathed.

Marc Menard as Joey? No no no no no, that's worse than Bruce Michael Hall. Krista as Blair, wow, that they'd even consider that given her closer physical resemblance to a Tina. Trevor St. John has always reminded me of another Kevin, Jack Armstrong, so I could see that.

Degrassi: The Next Generation
Does anyone remember that show called Young Americans? They had a girl on there who was passing as a boy, I don' remember the actress' name but I think she was also on The L Word. She was involved with Ian Sommerhalder on YA. Don't think she was transgendered though, just trying to attend an all-boys school iirc.

I can see the Terry Lester/Mark Pinter thing.
