  1. Fascinating stuff dc11786. I will definitely watch those episodes upon my next visit to the Paley Center. Carl, your Interiors reference sounds spot on, that sense of 1970s upper middle/upper class values and psychology, the type of characters who kvetched to their analysts, the type of characters Lemay excelled at. I recall a fan at WoST saying that the characters would have been right at home with Frasier and Niles Crane.
  2. Would you believe me if I told you that I knew you were talking about KBH before I even watched the clip? Yeah, that's the original Julie, Catherine Hickland replaced her. (Slightly OT, but I was really taken by CZ's big, beautiful brown eyes in that clip, reminiscent of Rebecca Budig's... though verging on Liza Minelli with all that lash and liner). @ "after hours discovery"... I guess that's when Jordy first encountered his true love Leanne, she was a dancer (you've probably seen the clip where she and her sister Kate are arguing on the Clegg staircase and she falls to her death). Whoa, NW dated her?? For years, I've only known that face as Dorothy and Stan's daughter (Kate #2) on The Golden Girls. Just about two week ago, I saw her for the first time ever in something else when she started popping up in Two Close for Comfort reruns on Antenna TV. Then to see this. That's a lot of new Deena Freeman information for me in a relatively short period of time. I'm about to look it up, but I wonder if she ever did voices for cartoons because I feel like I've recognized her voice elsewhere.
  3. Sometimes these old articles really suprise me. All of that flirtatiousness from the writer. Geesh, nice soap diss Brian, lol.
  4. That's interesting, I never knew that either but I can see that. It's funny you should mention that though, I was reading something about the Today Show just a few days ago and I was surprised to learn that Estelle Parsons and Shirley Jones and maybe some other names I'm forgetting right now started out on morning news shows like that. They went on to successful acting careers, but it reminds you of what the actor's life is like, how when you're broke and wanting to work, you sometimes take jobs that aren't ideally what you'd want to be doing but they pay the bills and can lead you down a totally different career track. Yeah, JFP yanked the furs which was around the time RS was having real-life moral issues with fur. She'd just bought a mink coat herself then saw that documentary "The Witness" and ended up donating her new mink. She's since reconsidered and bought vintage mink. I've seen pictures of ES and HBS wearing real fur in SOD/SOW. Christie Brothers provided OLTL's furs, it really did add an elegant visual dimension to the show during the early '90s. When Viki and Dorian wear fake furs these days it looks so cheap and clownish like they're playing make pretend dress-up rich people.
  5. Yeah, the Burberry stuff became very big with the logo whores in the late '90s and it's still going strong. She does look (miraculously ) pregnant in the blue, and the way the stalking cheetahs print is lined in the jacket she has open, it gives the illusion of her being preggo there too. I'd love to read the Lemay/Rauch article if you ever get a chance.
  6. Yeah, I never knew that her dad ran a fur salon either, or about Liz's husband until you posted that article a while back. Furs for pregnant women?? Now that's hilarious. Talk about an extravagance. No offense to NAA's dad, but those aren't exactly "fine furs." Most of them are pieced/sections coats, heads, paws, sides, and whatnot, that's why a lot of them look like they'd been in a catfight. AMC got word from the higher ups that there were to be no more furs on the show after some viewer complaints. Erica and Mona wear mink coats in the 20th anniversary special (Erica's is a bright red sheared mink jacket like the kind Sally Field wears in Soapdish, there was a trend for real furs to mimic fakes with the rise in animal rights activism) and I think that's about the last time I saw real coats on the show. GL (Vanessa, Amanda) and OLTL (Viki, Dorian, Alex, Blair) were the last soaps I remember seeing furs on a regular basis. I remember Lucinda in a mink too in the late '90s, but I think they may have been giving her faux by then, like you said, she'd worn several real ones in years prior.
  7. LOL, I guess that too, but I meant that she's got the iconic Burberry plaid wrap, bag, and umbrella and they make no mention of Burberry whatsoever. Actually, maybe that's knockoff Burberry, but still. You mean to say you don't like the multitude of cheetahs stalking on her artist's smock? Yeah, and gold lame, when was that ever not a punchline?
  8. Who says animal lovers can't be fur lovers too? I looked up that Crawdaddy restaurant to see if it was still in the city. I guess it's long gone. It was on 45th & Vanderbilt, right by Grand Central, live jazz. Must have been nice.
  9. That was fun Carl! And what's with the big Burberry-draped elephant in the room?
  10. Yeah, he watched AW and was a Felicia fan, I think the guest spot was actually his idea. Thanks Carl, will do!
  11. [Liberace voice]Oh that was marvelous. I wish my brother George were here to read it. Thanks Carl, you're aces. [/Liberace voice] I'm glad that he eventually got to guest on a soap. Felicia was probably as perfect as it could get. And I believe he invited them to shoot their scenes in his apartment at Trump Tower (Linda was also briefly interviewed for his A&E Biography). Had John Conboy's soap Casino ever gotten off the ground while Lee was still with us, he would have most certainly been a guest on that.
  12. BTW, I found the mention of CT's Mexican art interesting given her next husband's occupation.
  13. A few years ago on the Ovation network, they aired a Biography-type program with Joan Collins that looked like a UK import. In it, she traveled around Hollywood with a camera crew making various stops including her star on the Walk of Fame and the house mentioned in that article. It was of course a nice home and she pointed out the conversation pit that Sammy David had installed. They showed file footage of her, Tony, and the kids playing by the pool, etc. They didn't mention who lived there at the time, but Joan was gracious enough to say that the present decor was "not to (her) taste" and kindly pointed out a dried lifeless arrangement in a vase with, "What lovely flowers. "
  14. Marj Dusay, Miss Recast herself, once spoke of the many connections in the soap biz saying that it was like they'd all pricked fingers and became blood siblings once upon a time. There are these soap archetypes that can be filled by so many members of the big soap rep company.
  15. And imagine if she and Beverlee had been reunited as Myrna and Clarissa like that SOD article re: Beverlee in the CAP thread.
  16. I haven't followed CT's career like CT_Helena_Fan, but of the roles I've seen her in, she's quite versatile and equally comfortable and convincing as the white hat, the dark hat, and I guess the gray hat (?) in between. Even though her Audrey on Y&R was annoying, she totally sold it. I remember a lot of message board comments comparing her Helena energy to Beverlee's Alex and Susan Flannery's Stephanie. Of course neither of those ladies are as cutthroat (literally!) as Helena, but the whole ice queen thing I totally get. I'm really going into a soap relations pretzel here lol but I wonder how she would have done in Beverlee and Marj's role as Alex where she would have been able to play the naughty and nice.
  17. Yeah, I think Constance was the only one. It seemed like he was focused on old Hollywood film and primetime types for the senior cast members and pretty newcomers for everyone else.
  18. For the various reasons that I don't have to reiterate for you all how interesting that she was up for the part of Julie that Beverlee booked!
  19. I was noticing how regal Nancy Marchand looked, and then to see the writer's caption... I saw an interview of her once in her Sopranos days and she was saying how she'd made a career playing these to the manor born types and Livia was such a departure for her. When the show got revamped and Laurinda Barrett took over the role, I wonder if NM was let go or quit.
  20. Yeah, it would be great if John Conboy started a website like Agnes Nixon and uploaded episodes. Even if he licensed his own dvds I would buy them in a heart beat! Like you said, most of the Carolyn stuff I've seen has been in Italian (provided by Claudio at his Capitol Megasite when he was still uploading... they were so lucky to get several runs of the show over there, and they even did a reunion with interviews of the cast and the voice over actors who did the Italian dubbing). In one episode, Myrna mentioned that she and Paula used to babysit together when they were teens, I thought that was a cute piece of history. So I assume Clarissa knew nutty Paula back then too. I'm assuming Baxter was declared legally dead. So, was he disfigured and his face reconstructed, or did they simply not recognize him after all those years?
  21. I never knew that about Paula having a brain tumor! And didn't she accidentally kill her maid too?? What a loon. Julie Adams was good, she would have been fun on another soap. As nutty as Paula was, she would have been another good choice for Pamela Capwell on SB. Her softly devious delivery is similar to that of Shirley Ann Field as Pamela, and of course Marj is Marj.
  22. CT, have you been able to acquire early episodes with Carolyn Jones as Myrna? I've only seen a handful and I'd love to see more. She had a harder, colder energy than Marj. I'm sure you've seen this already, but in case you haven't:
  23. LOL, is there a page 2 to that Lee interview, Carl? Lee and John Conboy were friends I believe, he's in pics of an article about a party for John in his Capitol days (with The Hoff and Cat there as well).
  24. Yeah, I have/had an old SOD where Debbi was briefly interviewed in an article about the state of black actors in daytime and she said, "There are no black Erica Kanes, there are no black Dorian Lords..." Doreen and AMC's Vivienne were I guess the first true responses to this (DOOL's Celeste wasn't really a bitch as much as a mysterious character, right? and GL's Vivian wasn't a bitch, just an elegant woman). I don't remember much of Debbi on GEN beyond seeing her and her hair. But no, she wasn't a bitch at all from what I remember, maybe a little more '90s edge and glam compared to Angie, but not devious.
