  1. Good question, You see them used in a sentence such as, "not a spin-off or a sister soap." Although you also see each term on its own, without the other being mentioned. I've both been talking to people about this & also trying to noodle with my own thoughts. I think it is a preponderance of different factors. Perhaps including: same fictional universe, same creator, same production company, same style (family or adventure or escapist or mystery or gothic), maybe same network ... and if they have a number of these factors then they add up to being sister soaps. Obviously this is (1) opinion and (2) a theory & definitely "in process" so I may say something different, say, on Tuesday! ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ถ๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿซจ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคž So, for example that would make AMC & OLTL sister soaps but GH wouldn't be one with them. And, I need to do research about The Young Marrieds & GH. People say they are sister soaps which didn't make sense to me since it was off the air before it was even established that GH's locale was Port Charles, NY. So, it seemed like a write back to me that Robin & Patrick lived in a suburb which is where TYM was fictionally located. Some people say it does make sense even though they get what I meant so I need to do some reading in some episode descriptions. Just have to make the time.
  2. I'm not sure what this is about. Okay, never mind that, I saw what it's about. But if it helps any, Blaze's mother has been cast & she's Puerto Rican & I believe French, although she seems as American as can be, also.
  3. Personally I don't see any reason to think she or any of the Davis women will be in danger. NLG is pretty well thought of & she advocates for her people. This is my personal opinion only. I just read that Digest says Josh Benard has wrapped, but with a door open if they want to pursue something later. Makes sense. The Adam story just put a period at the end of a story sentence. I applauded when he stood up to that horrible father yesterday!
  4. I don't believe so. In the Irna Phillips universe there were small cities clustered near each other. They were Oakdale, Illinois [ATWT], Flat Rock, Centerville, Somerset, [itself] Bedfordtown, Brookville, Ogden, Centerville, Bay City, Illinois, [AW] - Donna L. Bridges They all represented the bedroom communities that surrounded Cincinnati, home of domestic product giant, Procter & Gamble. I'm not sure how much intent counts but it was not Irna Phillips intent that these be sister soaps. The same way her use of the "world" motif was not meant to create sister soaps. Quoting from the document referenced upthread That's AW. That may be the first contract role. Thanks.
  5. Okay, someone said Taggert. I don't see it now but I felt the disruption in the Force. By actual count, on a calendar, M-F only of course, today is Taggert MIA Day #142. Where is the posse? What about filing a missing person's report? An APB to be issued?
  6. Another World There was a myth that Irna offered the show to CBS & they had no room for it on the schedule & she was heartbroken. This is debunked in a document called The Creation of Another World. It is by Eddie Drueding with reporting by Lynn Liccardo & Elana Levine. It can be found on the Another World Home Page under Publications. http://anotherworldhomepage.com/creation.htm According to it, actually in 1963 NBC approached P&G/PGP about getting Irna Phillips to create a new serial for them. Details & names of sources are in the document. The second most popular myth about AW is that it is a sister soap to ATWT. That it is not is covered in the document. Yes, both shows, including some others exist in an Irna Phillips universe but it does not make them sister soaps or spin-offs. Much more information about BTS about the show beginnings is included also in the document.
  7. But you do believe that at Luke & Laura fan events some women screamed, "Luke, rape me!"? Or not?
  8. Of course! Where's my brain been hiding? Ruby Dee on GL 1967 Cecily Tyson on GL 1966 @I Am A Swede Thanks so much for jumping in!
  9. Maybe we can figure this out. Off the top of my head I looked up 4 African-American actors: Petronia Paley at AW 1981 Morgan Freeman at RH 1981, at Texas 1981, at AW 1982 Al Freeman, Jr. at OLTL 1972 Laurence Fishburn at OLTL 1974 (He was a child at the time so he may be a first African-American child actor, maybe.) Now who knows someone prior to 1972?
  10. She won't ever be back. Not only for the reasons you state but also what she informed Frank about at the time of the wreck. Basically she lied by omission. She made no mention of the DUI or of her illegal blood alcohol content, or anything about the hit and run at all, and no details about the head-on. And what she said & didn't say is the reason there ever was a TempMolly. If Frank had known what he deserved to be informed of he would have put MarkT onto looking for a permanent Molly right then & there. Frank found out when TMZ broke the story 4 weeks later.
  11. I mean, come on, it's the Post. Do we have any birdcages that need to have new paper put down?
  12. Okay, on the flip side I have heard some things about Elizabeth Korte that are positives. She is said to be a fixer, a script doctor & to be the best at fixing writing that is in trouble. She is said to be an excellent writer of both dialog & story. She has held the position of both continuity editor and of show historian.
  13. As usual you make excellent points. I can certainly see Doug & Julie in that sentimental position! I guess I never stopped & gave it serious thought. My bad!
  14. I'm sure she will return.
  15. Yes, I still think that. Also I think they did extensive pre-taping so it may seem that he came back. And a poster on my forum has put forward the theory that they're saying Spencer will be back, not necessarily played by NAC, but possibly referring to a recast. I just don't think he would be so sentimental as to go around to each & every unit at the studio & say his farewells to everyone when he was leaving for a temporary Ryan Murphy shoot. I may be proved wrong. I may be proved right. Only time will tell.
  16. I've posted a question on that week's ratings post. The wedding was May 30, 1984. Without knowing how much a rating point equaled at that time we can't calculate the number of people that a 7.8 represents. Someone, maybe Jason, will reply soon. But, get this. Today I asked Bing CoPilot which is AI how many people attended the wedding & this was their reply.
  17. Today it is what passes for cold here, so I put on my Katy Perry hoodie because it is warm & I like it & it never fails to remind me of the concert. She gives fine concert!!
  18. You make me laugh! But it's not funny, it's sad. Why did he pick that?!!!! Still to this day, I just hate it. And, on Twitter I asked Carolyn Culliton what she thought about being forever immortalized as Carolyn the gorilla & she said QUOTE I effin hated it! UNQUOTE. And, I took it to mean that she hated it both in the 80s & again in the ending!! And, ALL the fans hate it.
  19. I remember when this changed. First the allowed tessitura of the commercials was changed & all of the commercials were louder than the programs. Then, the shows upped the ante. Both things were terrible ideas! And, it was around the same time that the new baby networks were launched & they used tons of popular music. So, guess what, the soaps did too.
  20. @JAS0N47 So Betsy & Steve wed on May 30, 1984 and ATWT had a rating of 7.8 so at this time how many people was that? I have no sense at this point what a rating point equaled. Thanks! So two people on UglyX found this for me. And, with it a resource that is new to me, anyway. Don't know if you know it already. https://www.ratingsryan.com/2021/03/weekly-nielsen-ratings-1984-85-tv-season.html So, at this point a ratings point represents 849,000 which means Steve & Betsy's wedding had 6,622,200 which is a far shot below the 20 million claimed & also significantly below the 16 million Doug & Julie claim. It also debunks that they are the second highest watched daytime wedding.
  21. THAT is horrible, awful, I would be furious.
  22. Well, Tamara is certainly HOT. I hope you are right about Maggie. But if she knows, then why does she keep him around? And, I hope his meet with John will mean we're about to have some momentum, going forward ... but, toward what? That reminds me, do we think that J&M are today's Tom & Alice? I think they are. I just wondered if most people also think it. I remember when everyone predicted J&J to be the next T&A. That didn't work out.
  23. On AW that was the time of Cass, Felicia & Wally (and the stupid gorilla) and what they called "highjinks". On AMC wasn't that when Tad would dress up like a chicken?
  24. I myself have called this time a period of guarded optimism colored with skepticism. I've discussed it with others who feel the same. I don't think we could honestly be more excited because we are naturally skeptical. So it's a good feeling but also a worried one. To me that is just the way it is with soaps today.
