GH: September 2024 Discussion Thread
My only knowledge of this is from things Wendy Riche has said & to hear her talk Claire was brilliant, accommodating, helpful, easy to talk to, etc. She talked about HIV/AIDS/not Robin also not Stone & she described what she wanted to do, which was have it happen to ordinary people, not anyone from any risk group. The next day Claire presented her with the outline of the story that we saw play out. Nurses Ball, same thing, only there were a great many people involved in that. So, if you look at then & look at now, the difference is the EP. Claire was doing what Wendy wanted done. Patrick a different story. At least it seems to me.

DAYS: September 2024 Discussion Thread
Just finished today's show. Terrible news to report. I have discovered a previously unknown level of dislike for a soap storyline. This is like the 7th circle of hell or something. I honestly thought there was no way I could dislike B&S any more. Serves me right for thinking such a ridiculous thing. As I watch I take notes on the episode. I have letters a half page tall that say I HATE THIS! Dear Ken Corday, Please do us all a favor & pit this show out of our misery!

Now, I, too, thought she was having a suicidal impulse, but this alternate theory is maybe much more interesting. Krazy Kuckoo Kristina in Krazy Person Lock-up is much soapier than dead dame. But, not seeing Sonny use Carly one more time, come on, you really didn't see that coming?!! Michael went into "Save This Sonny Situation" so fast I could hardly credit it. Only moments had passed. "Mom's at the house. She can alibi you." Meanwhile he was in perpetual motion, doing cover-up things.

She was also as violently & virulently anti-the hour format as Bill Bell, Claire Labine & Susan Flannery all were. Agnes was literally quoted as telling Pete Lemay that he had lost his mind. ABC used the carrot to get Agnes to go along with them on the change. Their offer: more studio space plus some money to pay more actors. She was in a cramped space. What's a girl to do? (By 1979 Lemay was convinced he'd been wrong & she'd been right.)

It really seemed endless, didn't it? I've asked different soap fans what their show's Red Swan was. Y&R Reliquary. AMC (& they claim there's is the worst) is Libidazone. I can't remember any more. I suspect DAYS has multiples. The Prisms. whatever was in the basement of the Mayan ruins.

Someone said that Cameron has just signed a new 3 year deal with GH. Frank just keeps making decisions that make me ... want to vomit. I thought sure they would cut him loose. It's so clear & has been for so long that he is woefully miscast. Cameron Mathison, the actor who plays Drewfus. Actually, of course, he is playing Ryan Lavery. Or maybe he's just playing himself & when he was at AMC, it was the same situation. To anyone who has seen him in one of these movies, is there any discernible difference to those characters?

1. No, Patrick was not planning to kill Ava. 2. I believe that he was not fired, but quit. Of course, if he quit, we know it was because they made him *that* miserable. Someone has suggested that there was a plan to have a fake killing of Ava complete with a whodunnit mystery but it sounds far-fetched if you ask me. Obviously they have changed & are changing a ton of things. I just don't think this (offing Ava) was ever actually planned, so isn't eligible as a change. Now, this is sort of unbelievable and, I mean, there GO the ratings!!! Because Disney & Directv couldn't reach an agreement 11 million GH fans have no access to GH?!!! https://dailydrama.com/general-hospital/news/directv-subscribers-lose-soap/

I have a tendency to give them a pass on roughly 15-18 months after Doug Watson's unexpected death. They were planning on everything revolving around Mac's anniversary & the anniversary of Cory Publishing & his death basically destroyed that many months of writing, already written. Of course I hated the blasted Red Swan as much as anyone else!!! And, then, they seemed not to be able to recover & think of what to write for Rachel. But I've also always hated that they just wasted Carmen Duncan once Watson died. That she just stayed in prison, ignored, was appalling. The fact that Goutman thought to involve Iris at the end was a brilliant idea but then once he couldn't have McKinsey, he apparently just dropped the idea. Big mistake. He should've gone forward with Duncan!

When they wrote the Reformation of Carl & the Romancing of Rachel they took their time, wrote very carefully, over about 18 months & while it is true some fans still contend that Rachel would never have forgiven Carl & was incapable of loving him, others of us were convinced. It began with Carl, learning late in his life that Ryan was his son. Wanting to gain some level of respect from Ryan, he offered Rachel his 10% of Cory Publishing shares if she'd have dinner with him one night, in public. The only comparisons I've ever seen made of GL's "Mattessa" was to AW's Donna Love in a romantic relationship with Matt Cory. It was very popular but JFP ended it because she thought it was a waste of Matt, who she immediately paired with Josie, a young woman, someone his own age.

I don't know why we are talking about a primarily AW actress here in GL. But, I suspect that in the last years of the show when Victoria & Charles were regularly performing COUPLETS and LOVE LETTERS live at various cities that she was influenced overmuch by Charles Keating, who regularly had a kind of a "posh" speaking style.
