We can't count on his voters holding him responsible for his failures. As long as you wave abortion and/or guns in front of them and they'll keep voting against their interests.

Technically it's not acceptable. It's a violation of the emoluments clause. Unfortunately, the Republicans in Congress have completely abandoned any pretense of caring about the Constitution.

For all the talk about Dem messaging, I feel like this is one that we keep missing and we need to keep it simple. Republicans. Always. Screw Up. The Economy. Always. The last time Repubs had the White House and Congress we got the Great Depression. Reagan gave us Black Monday in 1987. W gave us the crash of 2007. Red states all over the country are disasters: Brownback's Kansas "experiment" is an unmitigated failure, Walker helped drive Wisconsin to the bottom of job creation, Ohio's well on its way to a recession thanks to Kasich. Republicans always screw up the economy.

The bottom line is financial markets don't like instability. The stock market jumped now because everyone is thrilled at the idea of the upcoming cash grab but it's pretty inevitable that the bottom will fall out because - say it with me - Republicans always screw up the economy.

Which is funny because during the health care town halls, Freedomworks sent out protesting kits directing protesters to be disruptive. That said, I'm glad for some of these people to feel a little fear of their own base for once.

Judging by the response on Portman's page a lot of Republicans are disgusted by this. Unfortunately they won't be able to do anything about it for six years.

At least some people in the Trump organization are beginning to figure out that being thin-skinned is a weakness.

So I just got back from a protest outside Rob Portman's Cleveland office. I'm bad at crowd counts but I would say there was easily 300-400 people there. You don't usually get that many people downtown for anything that isn't sports related except maybe Pride.

Given how many in the military voted for him I'm kind of enjoying all the ways he finds to disrespect them.

Yeah, some of these folks are just itching for bullets to fly. At least his apology sounds genuine. Sounds like he drunk tweeted and actually regrets it not because of the sentiment at least for the blowback. Or maybe someone reminded him that all the people killed that day were pretty, young and white and that it's best if the GOP saves the word "thuggery" for black people.

I don't buy that for a second. The next time the administration blunders something in a way that would anger supporters the way they did the Yemen raid this will come back. That's the whole reason it was leaked to begin with.

The sad thing is the media would be a perfect way to get to him since we know he obsessively watches cable news. It would just take a handful of on-air personalities willing to take the risk to drive him utterly insane.

Oh that's a thing of beauty. There must have been something in the air because I ended up in a fight with a Berniac last night too. These folks need to realize that Bernie and his revolution are done. His only usefulness is as a vote in the Senate.

One of the few bits of pleasure I get is knowing that Trump is [!@#$%^&*] miserable. That's why he pulls these reality show stunts like the SCOTUS nomination and why he can't stop trolling Schwarzenegger. He wants his old gig back.

Even through the campaign Trump replaced Secret Service with his own security team. An explanation I saw was that he can make private security sign non-disclosure agreements but Secret Service works for the Treasury department so they have others to report to. Secret Service can actually override the president for his own safety.

The "Where's Hillary?" people are even worse because they are usually Berniacs who like to say "Bernie's out here fighting for us and Hillary's nowhere to be found!" They just want her back out here so they can beat up on her some more in the name of purity politics while Bernie chases after Trump voters.

I'm not here for all the people who bitched and moaned then sat home suddenly asking "Where's Obama?" If you cared so much about Obama you should've voted to protect his legacy.

I hope Tillis can be turned. There was some chatter here that Rob Portman might vote no but he decided to be his usual craven self.

^^^ And that is why we're hearing about the anti-LGBT EO being leaked again. Not because they want to distract the left but because they want to distract the right. Those people who thought Trump was going to keep us safe may turn a blind eye to green card holders being caught in a dragnet but they won't be so forgiving of him getting our troops killed out of his laziness. Best way to distract them is to get them focused back on hating the gays.

This. Look at the interview with the ghostwriter for The Art of the Deal. He's a stupid privileged manbaby who simply doesn't have the attention span to to be some master manipulator. The problem is he is surrounded by people who are master manipulators. Bannon is the one playing a chess game.

Payback can't be our primary concern right now. IMO it needs to be planning for the next opening. If they go nuclear now that means the filibuster is no longer an option if/when Trump names replacements for Kennedy and/or Ginsburg. We need to keep the filibuster. That's our only weapon. We need to decide the best time and place to use it. As for Merrick Garland, he's returned to the head of the DC Circuit Court. That means he will be hearing many of the challenges to Trump's laws including the Muslim ban.
