Instead of asking where's Melania, people should be asking where's Barron. Wherever he is, she will be nearby. I don't like her but she loves her child.

My college roommate was from Puerto Rico. I fell in love with her stories about her time on the island. I wasn't sure about visiting because I was afraid of engaging in disaster tourism but upon further research I learned that they want every tourist they can get.

Sam Bee was the first person to call out her fellow white women for voting for Trump so she's going to have to work pretty hard to lose my support. I find it interesting how Bee like Michelle Wolf after the WHCD seem to draw fire when rightly calling out their fellow white women for being complicit. I feel like there's a whole "race traitor" element to this coupled with a smackdown by the patriarchy but since I'm not in the demo I can't quite wrap my head around it. I keep thinking of the Blackish episode dealing with the election where Dre discovers that his white woman coworker voted for Trump and he said that he was surprised that she would betray the sisterhood. She responded, "White women aren't sisters. We hate each other." When you look at it through that lens, a lot of what happened in 2016 and beyond makes more sense. I consider the response to Puerto Rico one of the saddest, lowest things I have ever witnessed in my life. It's heartbreaking. I keep thinking about the people on the left who swung from Bernie to Trump ostensibly because they wanted to "shake things up" and/or "burn it all down." Puerto Rico is the result of that kind of thinking. Suffering, death, and a generation lost because of instability and displacement. (See also: Katrina) FYI, I'm hoping to visit Puerto Rico when Lin-Manuel Miranda brings "Hamilton" to the island, if not before.

Are we doing that thing where we blame women for not knowing a man is a domestic abuser? Because Bee addressed that in a pretty straightforward fashion when the news came out. As for Whedon, he's right. Too many people bought into the lie that Ivanka would be a "moderating" influence on her father when the truth is she's every bit the sociopath he is. Worse in some ways because she's capable of faking normal human behavior.

I'll be the outlier. I'm completely Team Sam. I'm glad she said it. For one moment someone on the left showed the rage I feel at this nightmare. Then of course, the Lefty Superiority Olympics started with the "we have to be better than them" and the "we go high" nonsense which has just become an excuse for timidity in the face of horror.

This is why you can't put Trumpers in positions of responsibility. These people think they can act like him. Like they can go off in public and just randomly attack people for no reason. They think they can violate the social contract with no consequences. Just like with that racist New York lawyer, people are more prepared to slap these people down hard.

Yes, they won for the timeslot but the number of viewers had fallen 50 percent This is what the woman who canceled the show today had to say a while back: https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/abc-roseanne-concentrate-family-politics-55180493 Look no farther than YouTube.

I suspect that ABC already had a case of buyer's remorse. The ratings are half of what they were at the beginning of the season and they had already said they would be backing away from political topics next season.

The whole NFL ban is such a stupid idea. Trying to ban protest almost always results in more, louder protesting. You don't like silent kneeling? Wait until they turn their backs or stand there doing the Wakandan salute or people in the stands start protesting and that sets off altercations.

Schlossberg is a perfect rebuttal to the idea that Trump's voters voted for him because of jobs or economic anxiety. This guy is an attorney in Manhattan. The very definition of a "coastal elite" and yet what set him off? The fact that he has to share space with people speaking Spanish. Just that one little reminder that he isn't the center of the universe made hm freak out.

As much as Dems should be working on turnout we should also be looking at ways to depress Republican turnout.

The truth is that this country is basically in a cold Civil War with Foxbots and Trumpers as the confederacy. They occupy a completely separate reality. All we can do is try to find a way to keep them contained.

I was genuinely surprised by the margin. The latest polling had Cordray ahead of him by 13 points. I really enjoyed that trouncing because it seemed to resonate nationally that Bernie backed candidates don't win.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of Republicans who are anti-Trump no longer identify as Republicans. They've started calling themselves independents. So that 40 percent is a portion of a smaller and smaller whole. - The Politics Thread
