  1. Jesus CHRIST -

I just happened upon GH by accident - and who do I see??

None other than our own MICHAEL E. KNIGHT!!

He looks so good with the facial hair  (like a sexy DILF).

And his skin looks perfectly smooth.

He looks years younger and healthier than he did on AMC in the 2000s!!

    I’m delightfully FLABBERGASTED!!

(Meanwhile, ex-Nico, Maurice Benard, looks like HELL.)

  2. I wonder if the potential opening of Pine Valley would incorporate the “book”/photo album??

    Probably not.

Perhaps we’ll get some “DARK” images of pine trees?? ☠️

But more on-topic, I need to stop being so bitchy about the whole “dark” thing, but I was so tired of seeing people going crazy over that.

I would love for ALL of the soaps to get the reboot/continuation/resurrection/sequel treatment, actually.

    Every soap has/had devoted fans.

    Could anyone see primetime Passions??

That particular show seemed like a low-rent Twin Peaks more than anything.

I'd resurrect OLTL. The dark concept would more work on OLTL. Granted it was certainly past it's prime with in 2012, but the writers attempted to make the show interesting by having things happen (compared to ATWT, GL, and AMC).

OLTL already had the dark Riverdale vibe that Kelly and Mark are trying to turn AMC into. Latter day One Life had stories like Hannah forcing James & Starr at gunpoint to dig their own graves, psycho cult leader Mitch, and the prison break finalie. Even the older show like Viki's Alters, the music box killer,Todd, and Colin/Norah/Lindsay would definately fit that dark style.

OLTL isn’t as ingrained in the pop cultural zeitgeist as AMC, so I doubt a potential resurrection of that show would fare any better than a resurrection of AMC (which is still a big gamble in itself).

And OLTL seemed to have more identities over the years than its’ main heroine had personalities, so is it really known as such a “dark” show to the general public??

Most probably remember it for the multiple personalities and an underground city. (LOL)

AMC, in addition to the comedy & lighter stuff, had many “dark” moments & stories over the decades - no one remembers:  Billy Clyde burying Estelle alive after raping her (Emily Ann’s conception)??  Erica’s brother, Mark’s, raging cocaine addiction?? A vigilante hate group setting a house fire with AIDS patient Cindy inside, attempting to murder her?? Janet’s sadistic torment of Natalie at the bottom of a well, taunting her for weeks before leaving her to die?? Julia’s violent rape/impregnation by gang member/drug dealer Louie Greco (later being verbally attacked by her staunch Catholic parents and physically attacked by “Pro-Life” protestors outside a PV clinic after deciding  to abort)?? White supremacists nearly beating Terrance to death?? Ceara’s past revealed as an incest rape victim?? Erica’s past revealed as a 14-year-old rape victim, with the product of that rape (Kendall) bringing her pedophile rapist father to town to torment her mother?? Erica’s prescription pill addiction?? Bianca’s anorexia?? Jim revealed as a child pornographer?? A crazed homophobe attempting to shoot & murder gay high school teacher, Michael Delaney, live on a local talk show?? Gay teen Kevin being sent to “conversion therapy” by his parents??  ....

I could go on, but people need to stop with the “AMC was NEVER dark, so the sequel won’t work as a dark show!!” 🙄
“Dark” doesn’t have to mean GRAPHICALLY VIOLENT or OUTLANDISHLY EXTREME.

It could be a family secret (which AMC, as well as ALL of the soaps, had in spades).

Yes, AMC was well-known for humor and light touches - and I feel they can include both, while still keeping it “dark” (I’ve grown to abhor that word) if Pine Valley comes to fruition (even SVU - a show about sex crimes - includes humor and light subplots).

The town of Pine Valley was once referred to as the “Peyton Place of daytime” (or something similar) by an executive producer back in the ‘90s (Francesca James??).

I imagine Pine Valley will be more akin to that.

They should include Phoebe and Enid’s snobby, discriminatory women’s club “The Daughters of Fine Lineage” - I bet those bigoted bitches did some hateful, “DARK” things in their history.

But I would also hope they would incorporate some of the Gothic elements we saw with early Cortlandt Manor and early Wildwind.

Zach did NOT kill the character of Kendall, that is beyond stupid. She was ruined with her Ryan(and later on) Greenlee worship.

    I respectfully disagree.

”Domesticating” Kendall - especially with the birth of those brats - killed her.

I agree with the others that she should’ve had more of an “Erica Kane” history (especially with men).

Kendall was much more akin to her mother in personality than Bianca.

Kendall just never lived up to her potential. I wanted so much for that character and TPTB failed us all. She needed more of Erica’s Glamour, a sexier love life, bitchier Storylines. I do believe Kendall needed to be one of the leads of this show, she just didn’t have the right storylines to support that. 2008 was the perfect time to revamp the character and the canvas, they didn’t so we missed out.

I hated her with stupid Zach.

I guess it was a popular pairing, but I found Zach so wooden and boring.

The actor (Kaye??) was hot in a “daddy” way (LOL!!), but just so BLAH to me.

Erica giving Janet a makeover pre well story during those first weeks on the show before she went crazy

    Aahh!!

That makes sense - and would’ve been delicious, I agree!!

Yeah, besides those actually living at the mansion (+Brian, since he was Hayley’s boyfriend), Janet really didn’t interact with too many people in Pine Valley (besides Adam) pre-well.

One lost opportunity in 1991 with the Janet story was not having Erica be the one to.give Janet a makeover...in order to stick it to Natalie.  You know Erica would have viewed Janet as a project..and in no way a threat to her beaut.

You mean Erica being an accomplice in Janet’s initial plot to impersonate Natalie and thereby stealing her life, as a form of “revenge” for their tumultuous past??

Or do you mean Erica just giving Janet a makeover to appear more glamorous??

Erica did help Janet with her makeup and hair (giving her a scarf to cover up the unwashed texture and dark roots) during her trial in late ‘91.

I did, but she was killed off maybe a month into my watching, so I mostly saw her interactions in heaven with Jesse before she accepted her own death.

I remember those scenes well - mostly my excitement in seeing Natalie (w/ Harold, of course).

Travis and Jeremy appeared, too, IIRC.

Bianca/Laura would have made so much sense! I actually started watching a few months shy of twenty years ago when the big storyline was Leo harassing Ryan to get Gillian's heart for Laura. I could not care less what people will think of me for this, but I LOVED Laura/Leo, their hospital room wedding, etc. I mean, I know better now, but I was 11 lol

All of the "They should have..." stories/ideas that we come up with only would have worked with a slower-paced show than what AMC was in its last decade and a half. I feel like even if they did some of the things we wanted them to, it still would have been hollow compared to how the ideas exist in our heads. Still, it's fun to think about how some false notes could have been improved. I will forever want Asher Pike to be the jock who regularly schtupped the Daniel Kennedy version of Petey Cortlandt instead of a weak and useless extension of the Cortlandt family.

    Did you like Gillian??

  10. 1 hour ago, cassistan said:

That’s exactly who tamera Braun needed to come in as. If the show was gonna do the first daytime same sex wedding, it needed to epic. A slow burn reconnecting romance of them two  just in time for the 40th. Ugh! You can reinvent the entire show now we them as in laws.

my show left the airwaves too soon.

    Precisely!!

(Btw, the last few replies have made me resent Maria. LOL!!

And I remember more or less enjoying her in the ‘90s... although I do recall - my mother, too - always thinking it was a mistake to break Brooke & Edmund up for Maria.... SAINT Maria of Wildwind, tending to the sick in her push-up bra).

  11. Btw, I remember everyone HATING blonde Laura - especially after that tart got Gillian’s heart (a character whom the audience eventually grew to love).

‘90s, curly-haired Laura was a superior actor (of course, the writing was better then, too).

Bianca and Laura should have been a couple. Or Erica should've had an affair with Jamie.

    Oh, my!!

And then Brooke walks in on them in bed (a la Mona walking in on Erica in bed with her best friend Nick)??

  13. 3 hours ago, FrenchBug82 said:

Also. Not that I wanted them to keep JB to prop up SL of course, since JB and Brooke were fantastic on their own merits, but I also think getting rid of any character that could go toe-to-toe with Erica as equals ended up hurting Erica. With a character like that, having someone her own age and a similar affectionate relationship with the audience taking her down a notch or two from time to time is necessary so that she doesn't become insufferable. Krystal and Greenlee weren't exactly the adversaries that could do that effectively for the audience.

    I concur 100%!!

Do you feel Maria was a worthy adversary??

Janet/Erica hiding Kinder's body was so genius..and both hated Brooke...with good reason.  I always rooted for Erica when she was opposite Brooke..tbh

Erica was always jealous of Brooke’s intellect, I believe, while Brooke was always jealous of Erica’s charisma.

DIXIE, not Erica,  was actually the woman to directly f*ck over Brooke the most (first in ‘89 with Adam, and then again in ‘94 with Tad).

Ah, makes sense now. I'm kinda glad they dropped it, on some level, but on the other hand, Barr deserved the meaty material it could have given her. Maybe it could have given Brooke a new life and not be treated as an extra a few years later ... lol

    Yes.

I believe what ended Janet’s plot was Dr. Kinder kidnapping her (which also involved Liza & Skye, as well as Erica, due to her earlier association with him as his patient).

  16. I remember them gearing up for Janet stealing Brooke’s life - which would’ve ultimately meant Robin Mattson getting the boot and a dual role for Julia Barr.

Fan outcry led to the story getting dropped and Robin Mattson keeping her job.

A part of me would’ve loved to have seen JB take on a dual role.- and I’m sure RM would’ve been kept on-screen a while for the “mirror” scenes - but I know it was for the best that it was ultimately nixed.

If memory serves, Janet’s motive was Brooke “stealing” Pierce and Laura away from her.

I remember the scene of Janet hatching her plot and looking at the mirror - with Julia Barr as the “reflection.”

I also remember a scene of Janet hiding in Brooke’s closet, intending to clip a lock of Brooke’s hair to perfectly match the color (just like she did with Natalie).
I wonder where Janet would’ve imprisoned Brooke...??
A well would be too obvious.

If you could ponder a guess, what would Janet’s mental diagnoses be??....

Schizophrenia with a dash of Borderline Personality and Body Dysmorphia disorders??

For some reason, the NYC-based soaps have always intrigued me far more than the ones taped in LA. I'm not sure why, especially because the first soaps I followed were DAYS and GH.

    Same.

I think the West Coast soaps always seemed more plastic and less “real”.

AMC had characters like people I would actually see amongst day-to-day life.

And while AMC did have “pretty people”, they also did a good job at diversifying the cast in terms of looks and the social classes of the characters..... of course, I’m talking about during the heyday period.

Standing ovation for La Kane and La Lucci. Pine Valley needs to happen just so Erica can sling these one-liners again.

Who are YOU to tell Erica Kane about ‘GLAMOUR’??...  I wrote the BOOK!!
