Genie Francis Brings Laura Back to 'GH'

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- Beginning Tuesday, August 26, look for actress Genie Francis to reprise her iconic role of Laura Spencer on the daytime soap opera "General Hospital."

"This is a short visit," Francis said in an interview with the The Associated Press on Friday. "It's a mother-daughter story. Years ago when I started playing the character as a 14-year-old girl, it was a mother-daughter story, only I was the daughter. So it's kinda cool this is full circle. It's nice to come back for visits. 'General Hospital' is my home."

Francis is referring to her storyline with on-screen daughter Lulu Spencer, played by Julie Berman since 2005. After being cured by a supposed miracle drug of Robin (Kimberly McCullough) and Patrick's (Jason Thompson) in 2007, Laura returned to the catatonic state she had been in for years since Laura couldn't deal with the reality of killing her father.

Lulu is expected to have a breakdown in the coming weeks due to the recent death of former love, Logan Hayes (Josh Duhon), who she killed on Monday's episode of the soap. Lulu was defending herself against Logan after he attacked her enemy/co-worker, Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) in the Crimson offices across the street. She will go on the run with Johnny (Brandon Barash) in order to avoid police the week of July 21.

"I would stay on, but 'General Hospital' honestly doesn't seem to want that relationship with this character at the moment," said Francis. "They want little short doses during sweeps periods. It's not entirely up to me. I'm thrilled and delighted my audience stands behind me. If they didn't, you can be sure I wouldn't get to come back for these visits."

Francis hit it big in the 1980's with her on-screen romance with Luke Spencer, played by Anthony Geary. The couples marriage on the ABC soap in 1981 remains the most watched televised event in daytime history with 30 million viewers. Elizabeth Taylor guest-starred in the episode as villainess Helena Cassadine.

"General Hospital" airs Weekdays on ABC. Weeknights on SOAPnet. Check local listings.

Seriously, she's lucky that they bring her back at all. I mean, come on, most people know not to bite the hand that feeds them and most actors know not to whine in the press when they have a gig. There are a lot of unemployed actors out there!

Hmmm. I wonder how this will play out. It's pre-Tony's return (I hope) and it's just random and weird for them to bring her out of catonia (so sick of them saying "catonia" on the show). I hope it's just a random weird psych episode with Lulu where she thinks her mother is around. So weird that they are doing it at the end of summer. It's not like the summer audience that they are going for primarily teens and college students give a hoot about LS. They weren't even around when she was on the show in her "prime."

Seems all of us are either busy or traveling, and with Tracy on even less than last summer (hard to believe but true), there isn't as much reason to congregate and discuss the show. I just really hope she gets into the whole Lulu/Logan cover-up thing. At this point I'll take the scraps just to have her on the screen. This fall when Lukey returns better be good!

So sad about the lack of TQ this summer. I'm hoping for a good fall and that she'll get involved with the Lulu coverup. No one does a cover up like TQ!

Hi guys, not tracy comments today other than to say she is LONG LONG LOOOOONG overdue and sorely missed, but I had a question for you all. Does anyone know and can tell me how to set up a website? I tried on freeservers.com or .net or something. It works, it is just a pain in the ass and it very limiting in how I can set it up if I don't pay for an upgrade and the problem with that, as you all well know, is... no money!! that's the point of the site anyway. I'm trying to set something up so I can get some portrait work so I was putting my portfolio up and it will only set it up as an album. I can't get anything else on, I can't put any directly on the site if I want to... maybe I can but I can't figure it out. If anyone can help me out it's HUGELY appreciated!

hey knh: I've been in a world of packing and moving and way behind on the lovefest. I just saw your venting and I hope that things are better!

I'm working on setting up a website myself (ok, working suggests that I'm actively doing something). I'm *thinking* of setting one up. Have you thought of starting with a blog on blogger or wordpress? I know artist that share their work that way. Sometimes they do like a sketch a day to create a following. You could upload and link your photos through Picasa or flickr. It's not a website, but it's a free and it's a start. Maybe PM, QT, she's the web guru among us. She might have some tips.

Lainey, at first that bothered me, but then this morning, I went through the transcript of the December 10th episode, and that specific scene with Maurice was the one where he had material better suited for an Emmy clip IMO. The December 10th LuNacy scenes belonged to Jane (WHY DO I BOTHER and the speech about the 1960s rebels). Anyway, I'm not sure if they highlighted Tony's ability as much as the scenes with Maurice did - even if Jane makes Tony better.

And no, no Jane Elliot. I am assuming the last time she attended was 1993 for her nomination in 1992...unless she appeared at the 96 ceremony...

I'm surprised at the number of folks that weren't there. You'd think that TPTB would make SB, GV, MB, and KM go to trot out the GH "faves."

Saw the Emmy clip (thank you). My thoughts...

1. I don't think TG believed he would win, because he looked blown away. That's the most excited I've seen him about an Emmy since the second one.

2. Yeah, the suit... is it just me or is he trying too hard to prove he isn't one of the 'guys'? Halee, your comment was priceless and dead on (He looked worse last year, though).

3. Did you notice that JE was the only actor he mentioned. One directer, the politically correct comments to 'friend' Jill (that couldn't have gone unnoticed) and the 'writers' including Guza (no friend comment), and then JE - and he responded to the ovation her name received more than anything. He knows who makes him better and isn't afraid to say it.

4. "Partner in Crime". That was cute. I imagine those two are pretty formidable when they get together and want something.

OMG, I loved his little thank you speech. Yay!

Wish JE had been there, but we all know that's not really her style. I would have loved to have seen her dress.

And I totally agree that it was lame that they didn't show a LuNacy clip.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of ANY of these hair styles, I think what bothers me most about the style on the left is the slight poofage on her right side. At that angle it looks more like a sort of off kilter wig. And yes, I agree with Lainey, the one on the right is too harsh. Too severe. As for the Conan...there are no words. Who did she piss off in hair and makeup?

I have to say, as much as I don't like the short hair...ummm, here I think it's preferable to the longer locks of the previous day...

Lucky: Tracy may not believe it, but my Dad loves her. If he hasn't called her about the money, something's wrong.

Sam: So, how do you know he's not just on a bar crawl?

Lucky: If he's sending me a coded message through you, it means he doesn't want Tracy involved. He's trying to protect her.

Also, there was some foreshadowing at the end of the second scene with Tracy. "So, if he hasn't contacted me, and he hasn't contacted you, where is he?"

Everything about the dialogue made it clear that Luke was *not* on a bar crawl, and that it was a pretense in order to protect Tracy, knowing she'd go back to Port Charles.

Awww. That makes me happy. I like Luke's kids acknowledging how much their dad loves Tracy and the hint that he wasn't being a bar crawling jerk.

Are we supposed to assume then that she couldn't cut it??? As if she's never been in a somewhat similar situation? I guess I thought life on the run wouldn't even be an issue for her as long as she had Luke... (even if she accustomed to maid service and cappuccino in bed - haha).

So, I was watching some clips from a year ago. Some of the court scenes I didn't pay as much attention to as I was away and was trying to do as much as I could online in a short period of time. In any case, in the episodes when Laura's verdict is announced, I love that Tracy is rubbing Luke's arm and then has her hand on his back.

I remember the shoulder/arm rubbing at the start of the hearing (I was still home), but I guess I skipped over it the second time. And also, her taking hold of Lucky's wrist when he got up to argue with the judge in an effort to, I guess, calm/restrain him? So cute! A little family moment.

I'm assuming that she decided she didn't want to cut it. But seriously, I figured if Luke was there she'd be good with it. Guza just needs to talk to remos.

I LOVE those little moments in the court scene. So sweet.

They're not fighting. That's Lulu projecting and running her mouth about things she knows nothing about. It's really as simple as Tracy not liking Luke's version of life on the run.

That's kind of what I thought from the scene. Lulu and everyone just want to think that Luke dumped Tracy. She probably just had enough flea bag motels and dive bars. I secretly I think it's a cover b/c Luke and Tracy are worried about Lulu. (That's what I've decided to believe).
