Meanwhile, the rubes in Podunk will wave their Chinese-made MAGA hats and scream "LOCK HER UP!" and continue to smile as Cheeto spits in their faces and fleeces them.- The Politics Thread

You explained it all better than I could.- Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
Today is 34 years to the day that Santa Barbara premiered. God, I'm old! I was only 11 (12 later that year) when it started.- The Politics Thread
If they can cover these useless pieces of garbage in Congress, the government can pay for its citizens. Other countries do it and do it well.- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Now that's kind of cool. Ironic, but cool, with two actors with the same name playing the name of a character with the same name. Thanks for the heads up. I stand corrected!- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Actually, Tequan Richmond is the actor's name that plays TJ on GH. Christopher "Chip" Mayer was TJ on Santa Barbara in the '80s, and was - ironically - once married to future Kelly #4 (the very character TJ was involved with along with Kelly's mother, Sophia!), Eileen Davidson. Mayer died years ago. But thanks for the inadvertent memories!- The Politics Thread
Buh bye, Scotty Pruitt!- The Politics Thread
If you need entertainment, head over to Twitter and read #secondcivilwarletters With thanks to wacko Alex Jones (yes, THAT Alex Jones!) who tweeted that Dems/Liberals were going to start a second Civil War today, July 4th. The response was epic. And funny as all hell. Read the letters and laugh. Better than crying!- The Politics Thread
American Family Values? TRUMP? Okay, who passed around the good stuff at NYT? And will it share with the rest of America?!- The Politics Thread
This is why elections have consequences and Dems staying home in 2014 got this rolling since, by staying home, the GOP got more seats. There is no way to stop this. The Dems are the minority and there is no filibuster. The ONLY thing that may be possible is, if Dems do ever get a majority, they CAN increase court size. It was expanded and reduced many times over the centuries/decades.- The Politics Thread
Because the last round didn't bankrupt the country enough, Trump wants another round of tax cuts - and another reduction of the corporate tax rate from 21% to 20%. Let's add another trillion in debt. Why not?!- The Politics Thread
At this point? I think my dog would make a better, smarter, more thoughtful president.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
He was also the male lead to Marcy Walker's female lead in the failed show, Palace Guard, in the early '90s. (The show Walker left Santa Barbara for. In which the late Stephen J. Cannell [writer, maybe-creator(?), and/or producer of PG, I think!] acted as "Channing's" chauffeur to whisk "him" out of SB.)- The Politics Thread
This nation is f*cked. At this point, do Liberal States of America and Conservative States of America. Separate but equal. Won't ever happen but it should. But then red taker states would have to support themselves, hence why this won't happen. Barring that, NY/California SHOULD secede, IMO. We're going backwards at an alarming rate. Gilead isn't such an impossibility these days.- The Politics Thread
Granted, the midterms are still months away and things can change, but I think we need a bit of hope: Jennifer Wexton (D) leads incumbent Rep. Barbara Comstock (R) in race for the Virginia 10 district race. Incumbent (and Clinton VP nominee in 2016) Tim Kaine (D) leads Corey Stewart (R) - he of the White Supremacy love - by 18 points in Virginia Senate race. As today's Supreme Court rulings show (since Gorsuch was allowed his seat in part due to poor 2014 Democratic midterm turnout, leading to more GOP seats), voting will never be important than this year, except for maybe 2020.- The Politics Thread
And here we go! Tariffs have consequences! Harley-Davidson to move jobs abroad to avoid trade war tariffs.- Soap Hoppers: The Soap Actors And Roles Thread
This is probably as annoying a nitpick as there could be, but John Carter on ER called Frances Sternhagen's character "Gamma" (without the r), not "Gammy".- The Politics Thread
If this doesn't tell you that Trump spits on our Constitution and longs to be a dictator, nothing will. Trump floats denying due process for undocumented immigrants.- The Politics Thread
Do I think there will be a blue wave? No, not especially. Call me cynical. With that said, the above about enthusiasm for Trump is a mere poll. And we should know the validity of polls can be easily questioned. Does 2016 ring a bell? It all depends on the sampling size/general location. This is not to say I don't think the rubes that adore Der Orange have abated or will. I'm just unsure they're as large a group as they like to project. Midterms will basically depend on how well Dems can hammer home the issues of, mainly, the economy and health care, since the GOP still seems determined to wreck it for the average Joe and Jane. Because that affects absolutely everyone. The heartland loves Trump and its Republicans but, frustratingly for those same demons, they also like the ACA (even as they hate Obamacare...it's all in the name). Take that away, and I think even the stupidest idiot left holding the bag will have to wonder what they did. Let's also remember that, while the economy is rolling along, the tariffs and trade war can easily turn it on its head. There are still a few months 'til November to find out. The Republicans can very well still prevail. I'm not naive. But I'm also not ready to become fatalistic about the Dems chances just yet.- The Politics Thread
Aaaaand it's time to flood the phone lines to your representatives yet again. It's the Annual-Super-Duper- "Let's Take Away Health Care to Balance The Budget We Helped Balloon!" While eyes are on the border, maybe the GOP thought the sneak attack approach would work out better for them! WaPo has some of the details. Including cuts to Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid! Surprised? Me, neither. The GOP's "Plan" to repeal Obamacare, Part 3,809,716,214.- The Politics Thread
I get what you're saying about the exploitation of immigrants, @DRW50, but as disheartening and unfair as it is, the sad truth is, immigrants usually are the people who accept the menial tasks of cleaning toilets, of picking crops, and now some farmers are bemoaning the fact that there aren't enough people willing to harvest those crops, which ties into the economy/tariffs, etc. Americans whose lives didn't turn out as they'd hoped will never blame their own choices: The immigrant is the convenient punching bag. If the immigrants didn't take American jobs, I'd be doing X, Y, Z! They can't accept that those immigrants do the jobs no Americans want. If they do, where are they? No, what these entitled Trump-loving Americans want is the jobs with the big bucks without having to work for it, without education, without relocating, etc. And deep down, they know this, so they lash out. Just as Trump promises coal miners that coal is making a comeback when evidence says otherwise. These folks don't want to change, so they play the victim. Alas, many Americans have gotten that down to a science. They deserve X, Y, Z and the immigrants do not. It's black and white in their minds, and there is no changing it ever.- The Politics Thread
F-u-c-k every last one of these Trump bottom feeders. Karma is a bitch and I can't WAIT for it to come calling. And this could backfire in a big way in the future. Some of these children are old enough to remember what is happening. And that, sadly, can rightfully (IMO!) manifest in anger towards the country. Then we won't need to worry about terrorist behavior from outside. Because that hatred is being promoted and encouraged within our own borders. The worst thing is, I really wouldn't blame any of these kids for that hatred. This will be Trump's real legacy. Which is fitting, because he is a POS that hates everyone not white, male, and wealthy, too. And hates leaders of free nations while loving dictators. Let's keep that scary little nugget in mind, too.- The Politics Thread
To our next 911, with one or more of these kids taking out their (very justified!) hatred for what was done to them and their families on the US. And, no, I DO NOT subscribe that these immigrants are violent now. But Trump and his sewer rats are cultivating that hate with their inhumane policies. - The Politics Thread
