DAYS is way past due for an introduction of new families to keep the show fresh and moving forward.

I think the last time that was tried was with the Hernandez crew. The only success there seems to be Gabi. (Rafe seems to exist to this day because TPTB like Galen Gering or something!)

We know that he death could be undone at any time, of course, because this is DAYS.  But I think it is being done this way so as to give the character a long rest.  Then maybe someday in the future they will be able to find a recast that fits and wants to commit.

Well, why not do that NOW then? I mean, there must be tons of aspiring actresses in California looking for their big break. This random killing of "big" characters is NEVER thought out. See the return of Bo as further proof.

There is no reason to do this except Ron wants to use shock and awe. And NBC should also know better by now. The last graphic death with Frankie Frame on AW helped to put another nail in the coffin of that soap.

Or maybe that's the whole point...

    So...is he gay (or bisexual)?

Yes.  :P He seems to try way too hard. But then we have Lindsey Graham, so in all seriousness, even if he was, that wouldn't/shouldn't be an issue. But then, both are in a party that wants to send the gay community back to the 1950s, so I can only assume they hate themselves. (Well, Lindsey. Not sure if Cawthorn really is gay or bi. But it wouldn't surprise me.)

  4. So I see on Twitter that ol' Elon is already harassing employees and accusing the lawyer for the company of being involved with fraud or something. So the sewage is already beginning.

The Twitter God must have heard my rant about the data because I got the download notice a minute ago. Downloading it as I type. Once it's done, so am I with Twitter, which both makes me relieved and yet sad that it has come to this. But when it heads into the toxic abyss and hopefully suffers the same fate as MySpace, at least I know I won't be there to be a part of it all.

Is it me or does she sound dramatically different IRL? Much higher voice, much more relatable than the post-'80s Hope who is the stormy ice queen. It's lovely, it's just so different.

Early Hope had a higher voice, too. Makes me wonder if she took voice modulation lessons or something. Or maybe smoking played a role? Either way, it does seem different.

  6. Wow, no wonder Hunter was almost cancelled in its first season! Kind of shocking to see it in 66th place! (It was on opposite Dallas on Fridays, though it had premiered in September on a Tuesday.) I recall reading about how someone showed Brandon Tartikoff the upcoming 2-parter, "The Snow Queen" (with Dennis Franz as a dirty cop in the guest cast), and that was when he made the decision to wait on axing the show and wait for another night to open up to give the show another chance.

Exit a show called Hot Pursuit (starring Eric Pierpoint, probably better known from Alien Nation and as Rita's last steady boyfriend, Eric Russell, before she and Chris got together on Silk Stalkings), which bombed, then the 9 p.m. show, Partners In Crime with Lynda Carter and Loni Anderson, was moved to an hour later when Hot Pursuit fizzled; that did no better, and finally, Hunter was moved to Saturday nights at 10, and the rest is history.

That was the beginning of the turnaround for NBC on Saturday nights. Once The Golden Girls premiered the following season, NBC saw its fortunes massively improve...

Valerie Mahaffey is an actress I’ve always liked but I don’t think she ever found a stable role despite the steady work, recurring roles on Northern Exposure and Desperate Housewives.

She was also on the short-lived political comedy, The Powers That Be, with John Forsythe and a pre-Frasier David Hyde Pierce, who played her suicidal hubby. (Yes, it was a comedy.) Mahaffey also recurred on Wings as crazy Sandy Cooper, who would act cuckoo for cocoa puffs whenever she was alone with Joe Hackett, but act normal around everyone else, so no one believed Joe when he would say Sandy was crazy. If I recall, toward the latter half, Helen finally did see Sandy at her nuttiest, too.

And as for Teri Garr, I don't know about the other '90s projects she was in, as I never watched those, but she was inspired as Phoebe and Ursula's biological mother on Friends, also named Phoebe. She and Lisa Kudrow looked and acted so much alike...

They could make it all Hope's dream or something silly like that.  I wouldn't rule it out.  It's Ron

I could see this if not for Susan Seaforth Hayes' tweet about the kids being in trouble, etc. Makes me wonder if Doug and Julie will be involved. The wording doesn't sound like a dream. But with Ron, who the hell knows?

Bo's death should be permanent, just like deaths that aren't consciously ambigious need to be. Sorry "Bope" fans, but soaps need to make deaths matter.

So start with Gwen or some other rando, not Bo Brady.

Exactly. It's a little late to start grounding DAYS in reality. And even if you did reinvent the show, I wouldn't start by sealing this pointless death in concrete. AMC had the right idea when it resurrected several key people before going off ABC, then clean slated a ton of the show to reinvent it on Hulu. They had much more room to grow.

Right. Didn't some AMC character even see Jesse as an angel? And we see how that went, too. (And I was happy about that reversal, too.)

Yes, soaps used to have some reality. But those days - pardon the pun - are gone. If one wants to re-introduce reality, as I said, use the billion extraneous characters the show has, not the beloved classic characters.

  10. Putting this video here as, let's face it, his videos are mainly very political. Seems CBS Sunday Morning interviewed Randy Rainbow earlier this month! And i was surprised to learn - as I'm sure others were - that his name really is Randy Rainbow, since birth!

    Great interview. Enjoy!

  11. Always knew Deidre Hall did Our House on NBC in the '80s, but apparently, she also guest starred on the much gritter CBS show, Wiseguy, in the little-seen (due to copyright)"Dead Dog Records" arc.

In this episode, bunches of actual musicians also appeared, including Deborah Harry, Glenn Frey, and Mick Fleetwood, and the legend of Rocky Horror himself, Tim Curry, also appeared:
