I'm always shocked that the network or the production company didn't step in and stop the revolving door of characters. It really did harm the show because you would have months to get to know and enjoy a character and then he/she would be sent away/killed off once the new headwriter or exec came in. I suppose that's like most soaps (Especially AW the last seven or eight years), but SB just seemed to do it the worst. The show rarely had any stable characters beyond the Capwells. Since they never managed to do that, Marcy Walker's departure and Carrington Garland's firing  really destroyed the show.

Ah, but who's to say it wasn't the network CAUSING the revolving door? Remember, the networks and their focus groups did increasingly try to influence soaps.

It is an actual reason - or so I have read - that some soap writers quit altogether: Too much interference by suits that thought they knew better than the writers,

With such an atmosphere, it's no wonder soaps went downhill so sharply.

On DOOL I keep thinking about Craig or Nancy, too, but I can't figure what would be their motivation. If I had my druthers it would be the way we could get rid of Gwen! She's useless now & she is ruining Jack.

OMG, yes. But Gwen is a Ron pet, so...

And, based on spoilers, I think the show is headed for a TIRED Gwen/Xander/Sarah triangle. (Something about...

    Spoiler

Xander being shocked to see Gwen rushed to the ER...)

To which I say, no thanks. Been barely keeping up via Peacock. If this is the case, I have no desire to continue.

Crime is not gonna cut it, lol.

Hope not, but there are a LOT of dumb voters out there.

On another note, Malignant Mango is in DC...and quiet about it. Some are speculating on Twitter he is going to Walter Reed.

As someone said there, if a colonoscopy is involved, I hope it doesn't poke the many GQP heads up his fat ass in their eye in the process...

If NOT Walter Reed, people are still guessing.

  4. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that it has now been just a bit over two decades since that most horrific day in America. I was one week shy that day of turning 29, all bummed because 30 was a year away.

After that day, it seemed so...petty. I became glad to just be ALIVE. What so many went through is just beyond the scope of comprehension.

However, if you have a brave constitution, while NOT an easy watch, 9/11: One Day In America on Hulu, is worth your time, with interviews from some who made it...and talked of many who did not.

May we all remember tat day and those who endured and those we lost. May it NEVER happen again.

  5. I see the show is still into dating one's cousin. (Well, TECHNICALLY, they aren't blood related. But Adrienne JOHNSON Kiriakis raised Alex as HER kid, thus making Stephanie [you know, Steve and Kayla JOHNSON'S daughter?] his cousin.)

What is it with this show?

Why can't this show cast some non-familial characters for these people to date?!

I never thought SJP and John Corbett had any chemistry, and I never will. Much as I hate what has become of HBO Max, if David Zaslav shitcans this wretched show, I will cheer.

Never even finished S1 of this crap. How it got renewed, I have no idea. I am all for shitcanning this piece of garbage.

And I hope David Eigenberg (Steve) tells TIIC to f*ck off if they want his character back to be abused again. He has Chicago Fire, anyway.

  7. The YT account for the Dearly Departed site uploaded a video 3 days ago actually showing the house that Anne Heche had crashed into up close. This was obviously just before her death as she is mentioned as being ill in the hospital.

Also, the Megan/Greg retcon took away from one of CC's only redeeming qualities which was his devotion to his kids and grandchildren.  Why would he have gone through so much trouble to find a home for Brandon, but ignore Greg?  It made no sense.

Eh, Greg was a drip. Even "The Capwell Zone" episode with Aliens Mason and Julia (brilliantly written by Patrick Mulcahey!) couldn't make him interesting. He was such a non-entity, maybe CC forgot him. ;)

I both agree and Disagree, While at least his work was science fiction with an edge, This show sure probably wouldn't have entered that direction without him

Right, but this isn't Star Trek, it's a soap. And the depth of stories a la the '60s through maybe the early '90s, was forever gone because of that "science fiction". Days started in the realm of reality. It should have STAYED there.

I was just coming to post this. I thank this Twitter poster for saving me the trouble. And I will say something controversial: Ron may have put the final nail in the coffin, but James E. Reilly took this show from somewhat fantastical but still grounded in romance and family and, for all the SHORT-TERM gain, forever eroded the show's very foundation, allowing a copycat like Ron to capitalize on that.

In the end, I think the whole Possession [!@#$%^&*] helped this show's quality slide, and this is the end result.

(I said it would be controversial!)

If #1 is GH and Either RDA or Steve Bond said no to returning then RECAST DAMNIT. Jeff hasnt been on screen in over 40 years and Jimmy Lee Holt over 35 years, these roles can and should be recast instead of holding story hostage.

The thing is, though, I don't think - if it is either actor - they are holding the show hostage. As a matter of fact, in the case of Jeff Webber, RDA has made it plain more than once that he is done with Jeff. It's TPTB that think some miracle will occur and RDA will miraculously change his mind.

OG MacGyver has probably provided him a good enough nest egg where he doesn't need GH anymore. So I blame those in charge, not the actor who has already made his stance clear.

  12. Santa Barbara saw two Capwell siblings battle DID: Mason Capwell/Sonny Sprocket and, of course, Eden Capwell/Lisa. Mason made sense since his mother, Pamela, wasn't exactly the picture of robust mental health. If I remember, Sonny became young Mason's comfort when his mother left or something.

And, if I recall, Lisa was "born" as it was retconned that - I think - Eden saw Lionel "kill" Sophia or something?
