When Aaron came to town in '02 he came in as a runaway with the Snyders finding out Caleb & Julie had been reckless/irresponsible/neglectful of him
That's not the way I remember it. Aaron ran away because he and Caleb had been butting heads. Then there was something about him having had an affair with a married woman (which Craig ambushed Lucy with to try and torpedo the relationship).

Absolutely. And you can add Nina to the list of those already mentioned. And Willow/Sasha. I know they drive story but I think they are the same character. We don't need two of them lol.
I don't think Jax is a dead weight character due to his history of being popular, but he really is misused now and has no purpose.
I like Watros, but Nina isn't needed.
So many male characters should be positioned to challenge (or check) Sonny, but of course....can't.....RME.

It's amazing how many dead weight characters GH has lol.
Peter-there are no words. He should thank his lucky stars LW is his girlfriend and keeps him employed.
And how much story/airtime they suck up. (and that's not even counting the sacred cows---this show is top heavy in deadweight...)
Yep.

I knew it was them before the YouTube screen popped up.
@P.J. is going to love this.
I've always found Michael Park sexy. He oozes I am nice guy and sexy too..lol
Not lying---pee'd my pants a little.... LOL. And while I adore CarJack----what's sweeter is that Maura and Michael truly adore and support each other.

Those are the Carmen Miranda of earrings. My guess is that's a little bit of Lisa leaking through Iva's normally subdued wardrobe.

I thought the Lorraine Broderick era was better than advertised as well. Kathryn Hays got a moving anniversary episode, the church fire/Teague saga, etc. Some great casting--Danny Markel/David, Mikey Park, Peter Parros, Lauren B Martin---all great.
There were also flaws, but they seem trivial in light of what passes for daytime now. There were some revolving personalities/characters (firing Danny Markel for Keith Coulouris? The Brad parade, Andy being so desperate over Denise, the frustrating, constant flux of the terms of Carly's trust), but Broderick knew how to build to a climax, and move characters towards growth. Sheffer simply kept his characters in vicious circles.
Re Carly and Molly caring about each other----they did, but a lot of time early on, they simply intersected to catch each other up on their respective schemes. Each would offer the other sound advice, but they'd usually ignore it to further their own established agenda. They had each other's backs---it just wasn't always in a positive way. At least until they grew a little and got involved with good men.

I never watched ATWT consistently, but in going through some old magazines, I found a lot of complaints about Marland's ATWT during the early part of the nineties. There was a lot of talk about some long drawn out murder mystery that everyone seemed to hate. I think it was over some Carolyn Crawford woman and the actor Rex Smith was involved.
Yeah, it was infamous. Marland had a habit of "layering" a new character in. (It's annoying and brilliant all at the same time...) Darryl was a new client of Lucinda's, who happened to go to high school with Margo, and happened to randomly impregnate Barb while she and Hal were "on a break" and fell for Barb's half sister Frannie after his wife was murdered. The murder of Carolyn was drawn out because of a writer's strike, centered on four newbie characters and was one of the few times Marland switched horses mid-story, backtracking on Darryl as the murderer.

It's been so long since I've watched an episode from that long ago---the scenes seem to stretch out forever! LOL. WTF? BabyEmily had the hots for Steve? And Iva lived off the Snyder Reservation?

Figures Scott would say he'd stuck with the show for a paycheck. It showed.

Anyway, I still find it hard to believe that a semi-popular soap (at that point in time) attracted 20 million viewers for a wedding.
Steve & Betsy we’re no Luke & Laura or Jenny & Greg
Weddings used to be events. Steve and Betsy WERE an iconic couple for ATWT, and all the soaps had a bigger base back then. Semi-popular is a matter of perspective, I guess. From earlier in the year:
Week of Feb 26 1984
1. GH 10.0/30
2. Y&R 9.7/33
3. AMC 9.2/28
4. GL 9.0/27
5. ATWT 8.6/27
6. OLTL 8.0/26
7. DOOL 7.5/23
8. CAP 6.8/23
9. AW 5.5/18
10. RH 5.1/17
11. LOV 4.2/16
12. SFT 3.3/12
13. EON 3.3/10

Thank you for linking to Tom's blog. I haven't been so happy to read something about my show in the longest time. I'm sorry I didn't read it years ago. It just makes me love and be amazed by Doug Marland even more.

It's just odd seeing HBS with Deas. I'm sure it's the fuzzy quality of the tape, but I have a hard time distinguishing her from Colin. I'm sure some of that was deliberate. It's also odd hearing Margo call the man who raised her "Bart"---but such is fatherhood on soaps.
Eh---I won't die on this hill, but Dolan was a better Margo.

Isn't HBS the only Margo that worked with all the Toms? It would be fun to do one with HBS and all the different Toms.
Well, Colleen Zenk would've worked with four Toms. I guess HBS was "married" to Deas, Marx and Holmes's Tom...but I don't really recall HBS/Deas sharing scenes.

The way Block would bellow when confronted---drove me nuts. *shiver*
I do miss the soap mags---back when they were more than regurgitated publicity dept spin, anyway. And messageboards, back when you could find dozens of them and get a wide perspective of opinions.

The desperate soap press overhype tends to blur opinion (although Block did have his fans). I think this is especially true when it comes to Julia, whose "crazy Julia" stories were never as well-received as you'd think if you flipped through those old magazines.
The only universal agreement seems to be that Susan Batten was an awful choice to recast as Connor. LOL

Thank you. Hunt Block was great and was playing Craig AS WRITTEN.Scott Bryce was in Hollywood doing prime-time. He would not have come back then.
Should he have been fired from his second stint on ATWT? No.
But Hunt was very well-received at the time, by fans and soap press. So was Heather Rattray as Lily. It’s revisionist history that they weren’t.
You can blame Goutman for effing up Craig, but Block seems to get so much heat for his portrayal. It was on the page, in the script.
Weirdly, when a character is NOT recast, but has major personality shifts ( Zenk’s Barbara, more than once), it’s ok.
Block was a polarizing recast from day one for the fans. Sure, some loved him, some stuck with the "this is who Craig was in the beginning" reasoning, and the soap press was all ready to slurp everything Sheffer. But "very well received" is a bit of a stretch. Maybe better writing (I especially remember that the explanation for Craig's reversal was scant and a long time coming) or not having such a contentious relationship with Bryant would have helped. Part of the reason character "shifts" like Barbara's are (sometimes) better received is because they develop on screen.
And if Block gets heat for his portrayal, it's because he so often relied on smirks and bluster. I rarely felt he connected to any emotion in the material.

No, that would've been July of 2002. Barbara was acquitted of that, there was no need for her to jump out of a window.
I think in 2004 she was being held as James' accomplice in Baby Cabot's kidnapping?

Yes, thank you. The thought that anyone was fired because of an affair is foolish. It's not like TC's husband was also part of the ATWT company.
I love Colleen, but it's really hard for me to look at her the same after the two DUIs.Well, I gather Peck had a reputation as an irritant on the DOOL set, so it wouldn't surprise me if the rumors about tension between him and Michael were true. But if it had been bad enough to get him fired, I'm sure we would've gotten the scoop by now.
At least Colleen seems to have addressed her problems.

I don't recall if Colleen ever gave a specific reason why she and Benjy didn't get along at first, but IIRC, she said at some point, they got along better.
Re: Peck. Personally, I doubt he got fired because of the affair. My best guess would be that the show was looking to cut costs before renewal and Brad was expendable in the scheme of things. As much as I loathed the character, Katie was a legacy child.

I wouldn't blame Zenk for downplaying the Barbara/Gunnar pairing in her later years----given her longevity on the show, it was a small part of her story arc. I was surprised when I realized HN was only on the show like 2 years. And could you blame her for getting tired of playing the Perils of Barbara stores of that time? I couldn't.
I'd heard those "difficult" rumors for years. Mainly in relation to Jackie Schultz and HBS. But also with Benjy. Not everyone gets along.

LOL...at one point, I could recite who found out about Aaron in order, and how much of the truth they actually got at the time. And I only remember the Aaron/Lucy angle here because it ended up impacting Carly/Jack.
One wonders why Holden would've been surprised about Caleb having "anger issues". He always had them.
