I wasn't impressed with Nadal today. He was playing rather passive and should've lost the 2nd set. I was hoping and hoping for an upset but then the rain ruined it all.

Bolelli could have gone away like Zverev did in the Rome final, but he held firm and pushed things to a tough long TB. Very impressive. I too think Rafa looks off. It wouldn’t surprise me if he pulled out due to an injury à la 2016. But it also wouldn’t surprise me if he steamrolled to another title. But he looks... vulnerable.

  2. Wawrinka lost in R1 to Garcia-Lopez, and his ranking has plummeted to 256. He’ll get tons of wild cards, though.

Sevastova lost to Duque-Mariño. I can only imagine the drama on-court.

Saw that Baghdatis was up 6-4, 4-3 on Giraldo but got injured and had to retire. Really awful luck.

  3. I remember Omarosa sort of dragging Bethenny on BF’s failed talk show. Predicted (correctly) that her show wouldn’t survive the year (not that it wasn’t obvious to everyone). Bethenny gets flustered when someone comes at her in calm, methodical, imperious way.

  4. I watched the Haase match, and he was very upset that the match wasn’t suspended due to darkness during the fourth set, which he was losing. (He was up two sets to one, but Goffin had all the momentum.) Haase was even more incensed when they decided to move forward with a fifth set and, during the changeover, he called for the trainer, who made the call that Haase wasn’t actually injured. I think most observers figured he was just acting and stalling for time to show his displeasure (and perhaps delay the match so it would legitimately be suspended). Goffin proceeded to bagel Haase in that fifth set.

I used to dislike Ostapenko (especially after how obnoxious she was after Kasatkina beat her in Charleston), but I was pleasantly surprised how gracious she was in losing to Sloane in the Miami final. She just hits hard with no margin, which is dangerous when she’s on and disastrous when she’s not. Kozlova obviously has her number as she’s beaten Ostapenko every time they’ve played.

  5. Yeah, Venus wasn’t coming in with any momentum at her weakest major, so I wasn’t that surprised she had trouble. Konta has never won a match here, so that wasn’t a shocker either.

Goffin is down two-sets-to-love to Haase, so that’s an upset alert.

So sad to see Nishioka cramping up at the end of the marathon match with Verdasco. Fernando was nice to hop the net to console Yoshi, who was obviously devastated.

I know TC and NBC probably aren’t coordinating which matches they are covering, but it’s annoying that they are simultaneously airing the Fritz-Andreozzi match when so many other matches are being played.

  6. Always sad to see injuries derail a promising career.

Marton Fucsovics is serving for his first ATP title. Good-looking guy, but that pornstache! 😂

Saw that Gilles Simon is choking away a possible victory over Thiem. Not sure why Dominic needed to play a tune-up...

  7. Not to harp on the Arrested Development stuff, which I’m sure everyone is sick of/bored with, but David Cross has just done a Gothamist interview that is pretty revealing about the dynamics of that NYT interview and the AD set. Sounds like Tambor’s outburst at Jessica Walter was just awful (and Walter had a lesser outburst at Portia de Rossi’s stand-in, which Walter apologized for).

  8. Roland Garros draws are out, and Rafa’s draw is a joke. May as well hand him his 11th title now.

    Wonderful!

Wawrinka played very well today. Beat ItsRightHere!

Oy, but Fucsovics demolished him today. The way back can be long indeed.

I feel like he was hiding in plain sight given all the weird news stories about him over the years, but it’s still surprising. There are few stars with more respect than Morgan Freeman.

I’m sure Jason Bateman is breathing a sigh of relief that the news cycle has so quickly moved on from his plight.

  10. A somewhat uncomfortable NYT interview with most of the Arrested Development cast in which Jessica Walter tearfully confirms that Jeffrey Tambor verbally abused her on set. Tambor takes his licks, and Jason Bateman, David Cross, and Tony Hale come to his defense, which isn’t going over well on social media.

Looks like Jason Bateman is having his Matt Damon moment.

Also, Moses Farrow defends Woody Allen and alleges some very alarming physical and emotional abuse from Mia Farrow. I realize his assertions aren’t new, but these are the first I’ve read in this level of harrowing detail.

What is this about Andy Cohen backpedaling on Wig at the RHOA reunion?

    Andy, REALLY?!?

He is getting dragged up and down the street for this.

This clip is hard to watch because I don’t think there are two more obnoxious people than Andy and Jenny McCarthy.
