It makes sense, since she's an EGOT winner apparently (have we heard anything about her movie work really?) so someone would want to keep track of her papers etc. Not an exciting episode but a relatively well written one I thought with, yeah scenes that took a slightly longer time to breathe. Why at this point ANYONE would stay interested in Ashley is beyond me. Her freakout on Andre was as WTF as hers on Derek at the restaurant the other week.

I know they've barely interacted, but back during Hayley's wedding wasn't it established Caroline was one of her only friends? Why today does she act shocked that she might want to help plan a party with her?

On good days I can get behind that-- Certainly I haven't stuck with a daily US network soap for even more than a couple of months without missing an episode since... well the last days of AMC and OLTL, which says something even if I've dipped in and out of the other ones.

AMC was on CBC relatively early on in the 1970s (Edge of Night was also aired here on CBC at the time at least in 1977 as my mom watched it when she was on maternity leave with my older bro.) I thought at least one full colour 1977 AMC episode had been aired on a SoapNet marathon but right now off the top of my head the earliest two they have reaired are Tom and Erica's wedding from Fall 1978 and shortly afterwards Tom discovering that Erica is on the pill.

Thanks! Love reading these thoughts. And yes, for all the acclaim OLTL at the time got for social relevancy, I think you're spot on about it being sexually charged (something I'm sure Gottlieb played a part in) I mean love it or hate it, she's spelling that out with the new opening and what a different vibe it gives to the previous one.

Malone (and I guess Griffith but knowing his novels, this seems to start with Malone) did love the Gothic. Of course they went overboard on that with their second run on the soap (and Malone's solo AW brief run) though rumour is those stories were taken from the planned (with a filmed pilot) Fox late night supernatural soap Malone/Griffith/Gottlieb were doing, 13 Bourbon St. I should revisit this era of OLTL. I was 12-14 during that run but absolutely was obsessed with it.

Well said. I may be missing some plot details (I had to rush through some of the past few weeks) but I don't even get why Leslie is sticking around now. Does she honestly think she has a chance with Ted? Does she think she can get more money? Does she just spend her time watching her stories and talking back to them, talking in the mirror, looking fabulous, and then going out to places she knows people who hate her will be just to rub it in their faces? She got her revenge, and I think it's true that if we took a realistic approach to this story the revenge would not be satisfying, but... Wouldn't it make more sense to at least for a while cut her loses (has she run through all her money?) and lay low somewhere else while people try to get evidence to arrest her....

I can't see this happening, but wouldn't it be interesting (OK, odd, but interesting) if somehow Dani and Ashley teamed up to expose Hayley? Still rivals for Andre, but with a common goal (though Ashley wanting to expose Hayley because of her friendship with Bill's daughter doesn't seem like something the current incarnation of Ashley would do...)

Yes! Right now for the most part she feels just like an annoyance that most of the characters can brush off (the Nicole scene notwithstanding.) She needs something new in her arsenal, or... anything...

100% It would make the character more interesting, absolutely, but *so far* I don't true that that's what they're doing either so it just comes off as bad writing...

I thought Broderick had retired? But even in that last great We Love Soaps interview with Washam (was that 15 years back?) he made it VERY clear he had absolutely zero interest in working again lol I admit I kinda both laugh at and love the image of him now joining BTG or something though.

One of Agnes Nixon's requirements when she gave into ABC pressure to expand to an hour was that they would start archiving ALL their soaps (so does that go back to 1977?? That seems to be when we start seeing some full colour episodes pop up...) (Nixon has talked about how jealous she was that Dan Curtis had the wherewithall to archive DS from the start but said they never had the money to do so... Of course Screen Gems/Corday Productions did with DAYS and Y&R from the start too, and... whoever was in charge of Ryan's Hope. Even those B&W kinescopes don't help much with the 70s soaps--networks stopped making them by 1972 (largely phasing them out in 1971) which is why the half dozen+ we have of AMC are all from its first year, for example.

I shoulda read your comments before my post because... basically yes to all of this. Oh I did love Leslie's I assume adlib when she was squeezing past Smitty to her seat, something like "Aww your shirt matches the seat" (it did lol) Funny and in character because of course she'd have to say something...

Yeah, that's my justification for it too. (OK was that "jazz" song a new song as well? I expected sequences so keep that in mind while I nitpick.her to, I dunno, do something like Summertime which surely the rights wouldn't be too expensive for.) I loved that we did get full uninterrupted (albeit short) songs and enjoyed those But yeah, after hearing how these songs changed the world... And that one song wouldn't have even been a Supremes album cut. Didn't they in the end decide they would do more modern choreography (I admit all that part of the storyline lost me) because... they absolutely weren't. And errr how exactly did Chelsea update their costumes?? (And we saw a ticket with a $300.00 general admission on it which seems a bit steep for me--I just recently saw Kylie Minogue in floor seats for $175 Canadian --but I guess if this was a reunion the world had been waiting for I'll let that go...) Still, they did give *some* sense of it being at a sold out theatre, while barely showing any of the audience, which is much better than any soap I can think of has done with such things in ages, so... I haven't read all of the comments yet, so I'm not sure what's being said but the Ashley and Derek stuff is just a mess and I have no idea who the writers think we should be rooting for. Because Ashley's reaction to Derek was IMHO craycray after how eager she was to reconnect with him, etc. What the Hell was she expecting??

I will say--at the risk of TMI--that my first experience of sex was like K's--I just felt like I was going through the motions. In my own experience that was because of my own sexual abuse. But I don't think the show is going there.
