Of course but I am sure you realize that your reaction is exactly why they unnecessarily wrote that scene that way. They want us to sympathize with Ben despite his creepy abusive behavior. And the best way to do that is for Ciara to act like a b*tch rather than make the reasonable points she would be entitled to make.

Presumably since they want him to be viable as a romantic lead once Ciara is gone, they want us to see *his* heart broken and feel bad for *him*.

i think you’re exactly right, but at the same time, it still makes me dislike Ciara to the point that I don’t care if she leaves the show.

I know Ben is a killer, but I’ve just put that in a box and shoved it out of the way. Is that because I like the way RSW looks too much? Probably. I’m just being honest about being shallow.

But pairing Ben with Claire is a BAD idea. I see NOTHING there. No heat, no chemistry, nothing.

On the bright side, WL doesn't sound like he's going on a manic rant every time he speaks, so maybe he didn't take that much advice from RoHo 😂

i don’t see a bright side here. Lipton’s acting choices are bad, and he’s really regressed as a performer. I don’t know what the hell he’s doing, honestly.

It does seem odd they are giving Alexis a special episode.  NLG is popular, but she's not TG or GF or even MB or SBu.  It's a great achievement, but it's not like Alexis has driven that many stories in 25 years lol.  She's had stories, but she's definitely more supporting than a lead IMO.   There are loads of characters on the show that have been on it longer that have never gotten anniversary episodes.  I'd be annoyed if NLG kept 'status quo' just because she got her own episode, though.  It kind of goes against everything she always standing up for on social media.

i have to disagree. I think NLG is a daytime superstar who excels whether the writing is good or bad and who has been great on every show she’s appeared on. Supporting? No. I think she’s a lead.

I also think she’s earned this special episode.

  4. William Lipton needs a director. Period.

He has talent and he’s done good work — and I think that’s been delivered to him too many times. Now he’s either trying too hard to be an ACTOR or thinks more (that walk, those scrunched up faces) is always better.

The past couple weeks have been a “WTF is that???” for me, and the producers at GH are doing that kid no favors.

Just when I was singing William Lipton’s praises, today’s early scenes between Cam and Joss are a rare miss from him. Yikes.

i have to agree. Lipton was bad. He’s now scrunching up his face to portray any intense emotion, whether it’s anger or sadness or frustration. It is just awful, and apparently there isn’t a director in sight to stop it.

This kind of acting can derail his career if it continues, I know that much.

  6. I love Sharon Case, but she is playing Sharon as if she feels no deep love for Rey There’s cernothing there approaching a fear of losing her soulmate.

To me, Sharon’s concern comes off as what you’d feel for a friend. There’s just something missing. Yes, I realize Sharon’s heart is with Adam, but I still feel kind of shocked at the way SC is playing this.

  7. Agree with everyone here about Ainsworth. She just doesn’t cut it as adult Kristina.

Have to disagree about the song William Lipton sang. I understand not romanticizing deeply flawed characters, but Cam didn’t see Franco that way. The song showed how Cam felt about the loss. Good song, heartfelt lyrics, emotional performance. I usually dislike full songs on soaps, but I thought this worked really well.

Nina finding Sonny....I just can’t accept anything about this storyline. When you have to pretend the internet doesn’t exist, the story is a joke.

  8. I’d also point out the obvious that while the show is willing to have a lesbian couple on the show (even though they’re rarely seen doing much together), it’s a no-go when it comes to two gay men in a committed relationship.

Y&R is so afraid of 75 year old Evangelical women freaking out that they won’t go NEAR it. Hell, they won’t go near adding ANY gay male to the show.

And yes, since it’s center is the fashion industry, B&B is worse.

  9. I definitely feel for Scott Clifton. Anyone who’s seen his Twitter knows what a good guy he is — principled, intelligent, compassionate. He also knows what viewers think of Liam, and I get the feeling he’d like to punch Liam out as much as we do.

in this economy, though, and with the state of daytime, no actor — not even a lead — is going to throw his weight around and make story demands. It’s just not going to happen, and I certainly don’t blame Clifton for keeping his mouth shut, playing a huge jerk, and taking the paycheck.

Being too skittish to tackle these topics IS (another aspect) what has helped kill these shows. You can tackle "hot topics" in ways that aren't even noticeable to the casual eye. It's just about making the effort. When they try it's shot down.

CBS and NBC seem to have ... diversity problems. Which, considering the toxic environments we've heard about there, this is really no surprise. I still think a certain man at Sony isn't called out enough ... interesting how he's over both Y&R and Days. Just saying. Although Days, SADLY, does better, so ... CBS?

I'm also tired of them catering to a very very small section of the audience who just happens to be loud on Facebook.

I was thrilled Paulina called out the lack of the diversity in Salem. SHE'S RIGHT. I knew a certain section of the so called audience would flip out and right on cue ... they also showed themselves when Deidre poosted a photo of herself with Jackee, which was likely deliberate so they'd show their asses and was likely in support of her.

And may I remind everyone, Leo on DAYS played by Rikaart, was "too gay" for executives. I'm just saying. There's a big problem in daytime. They have no idea what they want to be and they're too afraid to be anything but what they think "we" want. They have no clue.

There's also another section of the audience of all the soaps that seem unwilling or unable to call out bad crap that these shows shove out to us. It's that they're afraid to be critical because that somehow means they'll cancel the show (or they just don't care).

Oh, and of course there's the even smaller section that only watches for a couple or a character and flips out when they aren't the focus, taking it out on everyone else who dares get airtime or comes back to the show (Franco stans are showing their asses on social media).

And finally, there's the other group that seems to want a Hallmark movie and they don't seem to have any idea how a soap opera works. They just want couples holding hands. And then when you call them out for it, they get defensive and totally move the goalpost.

They're trying to cater to all of these and failing. If they even try at all. It's time to just ... write.

Frankly, with such mismanagement, it's actually amazing we even have four soaps left.

Excellent post that says it all.

For instance, here's an idea I literally came up with in 10 minutes: Let's say that a younger darker-skinned black woman from a working class background (more like Lily's mother Dru) comes to town and applies for a job at Chancellor Communications. But Lily decides not to hire her because she thinks the young woman doesn't fit the "classy" image of ChanceCo. (For added drama, this young woman could even be a previously unmentioned Barber cousin). And when this young woman finds out that Lily was the one who blocked her hiring, she goes off on Lily, talking about internalized racism and colorism, bringing up Lily's history of exclusively dating white men, and so forth. And then Lily gets angry, and she's complaining to Devon about what this young woman said to her (like "Can you believe she thinks I'm a racist?") but then Devon calmly suggests that this young woman might have a point about Lily's internalized biases. And so on...

Your story idea is ok, but I’d never give it to Lily — and I’d expect CK to be horrified at playing it.

It’s just that the story would severely harm what the audience thinks of one of the show’s heroines, and that’s never going to happen. I don’t think a daytime soap is built for a long-term character leading that storyline.

And yes, I do realize Lily likes white men. I also agree that’s awkward and not a good look when she’s had multiple relationships. However, a woman of color dating white guys is not racist. It just isn’t.

I have a much bigger concern about Y&R islanding black characters. And no, Devon’s sperm in a white girl is not something to be happy about.

  11. And all Liam had to do to make Hope happy was to act excited that the baby wasn’t his.

The POS couldn’t even do that.

He talked about his LOSS, for God’s sake. I wanted to throw up.

Scott Clifton should sue the writers.

Thank you. That was my point.
There are performers I would, there are plenty I wouldn't. But it is crazy to describe anybody on that show as unattractive.
It sets a very unhealthy standard for real life and the rest of us on one hand and it is amazingly unkind to AG who is a real person with feelings.

You wanna celebrate Rey's physique? Great. Be my guest! No need to belittle AG or anyone else in the process.

Only times actor's appeareance can be criticized IMHO is when it is for things they have control over: hair/makeup/clothes or plastic surgery. Otherwise it is just... uncool and unnecessary.

Thank YOU. I agree with all of that.

Well I for one am sick and tired of a certain section of the population deciding what we can or cannot talk about. One of the main issue around race in this country has been that white people have determined what could or could not be said, talked about and the frame within the conversation could happen. Enough.

ALL soaps are avoiding those topics lest they offend them; I reiterate that is why there is a wide open lane for at least one soap that will be honest and interesting and tackle hot topics without worrying about offending this or that. Those folks can move to the other scaredy-cat soaps instead and let sane people of the 21st century have one.

Letting the over 80 white women decide what’s ok to write about is why the ratings continue to fall and why the show is worse and worse.

Primetime networks are covering this stuff. Streamers go even further and grittier. It all makes daytime seem further out of touch. And no, white Abby having Devon’s baby doesn’t cover race.

Soap writing is so fear-driven it’s unreal. They don’t realize that this move to offend nobody is so offensive it’s unreal.

Me either.  And he ate the show and why I stopped watching (along with nothing really happening) but his face was everywhere for a year or more.  It's no wonder they started calling the show on these boards "The Adam and the Rest of Them".  Thank God The Real is on at the same time.

Yeah, you tell us about twice a week that you stopped watching the show long ago. Thank U, Next.

Well I don't find Grossman particularly attractive. It's a matter of personal taste.

As for Traci giving advice, I think it's a conceit that you have to go along with as a soap viewer. There is not one character who is in a position to give out advice.

It was like Alice Horton doling out wisdom, when her children were adulterers, rapists, mentally unstable etc.

I don’t expect everyone to find Grossman attractive or particularly attractive. I just question the need to post that he’s NOT on message boards.

I understand soap conceits. If Traci doled out her homespun wisdom to Abby, or to brother Jack and sister Ashley, I wouldn’t have commented. That’s a la Alice Horton giving her kids some wisdom.

But relationship advice to Lilly? Just because Lilly dates Billy? It just seemed off to me, and forced. Yeah, I get it. Lilly has no one else to talk to. Oh, wait — doesn’t she have a brother she could share relationship troubles with?

Not quite connecting with the Tara actress so far, but reserving my judgment.

I’m not connecting with her either. In no way does she read as someone Ashland Locke would marry. It’s almost like I’m watching a battered wife who’s always looking over her shoulder to see if her husband is coming after her.
