And I think they should have used Alice's memorial in 2010 to make the rest of the Horton's "relevant" again, but they all only returned for that and were shoved off again. Marie should be vital and active. Bill and Laura. Mickey could have been better recast, IMHO (but that ship sailed, of course, since he's dead too). Mike (instead we spent almost a decade on Maggie's egg-baby) ... Jeremy ... Melissa ... at least they finally brought on Sarah. I like Linsey but I always had my heart set on a redhead for Sarah LOL (and Sarah should be about 10 years older). They wrote Nick into a corner and killed him. They had no interest in Nathan (who should have been Jeremy, but I liked them introducing a son for Melissa "the forgotten" cousin as we spent years on Hope and Jennifer ... most viewers probably have no clue Hope and Melissa were best friends)

Yeah that would have been a good time to reintroduce the Hortons. I think the show cared about Nathan around this time. It felt like they were invested in him. Didn't he get Tom or Bill's medical bag or something? His exit was abrupt, around the same time Stephanie and Philip were written off when SH and JKJ left. Though Stephanie didn't really get an exit. Her last scene was at the Brady Pub warning Dario (the new flashy guy!) to stay away from Melanie. The Nathan actor was fired and he whined and tried to drum up support for a return, and during the MarDar "reboot" in Fall 2011 (when John, Marlena, Austin, Carrie and Jack came back) he leaked a "rumor" that Nathan was coming back too, LOL!

Anyway, I'm currently watching episodes from 1994 as I'm adding them to my playlist (link at the end of this post if anyone is interested).
I haven't reached Tom's death and funeral yet but I like how JER had already given the Hortons more focus again. He brought back Laura, Bill and Mike all within a few months. This is the first time I'm watching full episodes from 1994 since I originally watched them back in 1998 and I thought Bill just returned for a couple of episodes during the Lucas reveal. It's been a pleasant surprise to have him around for a longer stay. I'm enjoying his presence in Salem and his interactions with Laura, Jennifer, Alice and Kate. So sad Christopher Stone died a year later at such an early age.

I was in a UK Tabloid wiki-hole last night and became fascinated with Abi Titmuss.  She is a former nurse and poker player who had a sex tape released of her and a former morning tv host, John Leslie.  Her wedding, baby, and her new house have all been documented by the BritTabs, and in every article, she and her husband are credited as stars of Days of Our Lives.  Abi played a nurse (I think she tended to Rafe during his coma) and her husband Ari played a hitman (I think he may have been the guy who shot EJ).  However, it is as if there is an alternate universe where these two were the stars of the show; especially in comparison to the coverage of actual contracted actors of DAYS.

It was remarkable to me that this woman has made a side career out of work as an extra on DAYS.

She also has published two books Secret Diaries Of Abi Titmuss

He played a thug that Dario hired to stalk Gabi in 2016.  She played a nurse around that same time period.

But apparently Stayla fans may be wishing they didn't campaign so hard to get him back. I don't know specifics but several on twitter are rumoring that it's basically a "be careful what you wish for ..." So ... be prepared I suppose ... maybe Petty Ron is coming out to play after some hibernation?

SN doesn't strike me as the kind of actor that would return if he thought the material was bad, at least the initial story.

I agree some of the 2009-2011 stuff was fun and Louise was as good as ever. But I was just so turned off from the show during that period of time.

Also agreed most of her latest stint was fairly boring. But I was sort of glad Vivian was more subdued this go around. But he could have and should have done more with her.

In regards to the short stint, I imagine he saw her as a means to an end (using her to get Stefan on the canvas, but failing to be properly "up to speed" on the show, and I think he probably realized he wanted to write for her and the return was met with a lot of positive reaction), but they tape and plan so far ahead. It all felt so thrown together at times. And then Vivian was "killed" only to be revealed alive (and we ended up with both Andre and Vivian dead anyway, not that I'm upset Andre is dead, and I hope he stays that way but I have my doubts). It was all such a mess.

I know Ron often dropped things to pick them up later (and it's kind of silly they write and plan things without securing actors first ... but I guess they probably didn't expect Louise to be so upset over her exit, although wouldn't she have known it was a short stint, or did they mislead her? It's all so confusing!) but it all just felt so ... messy. Would love to be a fly on the wall someday on this show when decisions are made LOL

I agree with you about how they write stories without securing the actors.

About Andre, I read that Thaao is coming back later this year because the show dropped their plans/story to bring back Peter Blake (with a recast). I'm conflicted on this. I would have liked to see Peter again because I think he's the DiMera with the most story potential but I know Jason Brooks is never coming back and I'm not as accepting of recast as many other fans. I can't say I'm suprised that Ron tried to bring the character back, if any writer would, it's him. And Thaao's one of my favorites but I've hated the writing for him in recent years, so yeah, I don't know how to feel about all this.

I mean, she's not a spring chicken anymore either. Nothing wrong with her wanting to retire, personally. But yeah, she's often been unhappy and I don't blame her. Like fans, she probably gets excited to return only to be dumped quickly after (or as in 2009, two years later). I imagine it was too soon.

Personally, I thought her worst stint was 2009-2011 and I really saw nothing too offensive this time except Ron discarding her too soon which I guess anyone would take personally after such fanfare with her return (and to be fair, he left Vivian alive when he could have just discarded her). I really would like to know what changed because I don't believe that was the actual plan at the time.

    I agree.

I think her stint in 2009-2011 had alot of bad stuff, but also some fun too. Her return last year was not offensive but at times kinda boring.

I'd like to know what changed too. But first, I read that she was supposed to be the one killed last January and that Andre as the victim was a rewrite. That would have really been a short-term return.

I agree. I don't know if her health is bad but I imagine she's "done". I can't blame her. I also think she was greatly let down (an understatement, maybe?, though to be fair I thought her 2009-2011 return was horrific but she came back and this run wasn't her worst, just sort of anticlimatic).

LS has been outspoken every time she's left the show. When she was fired in 2011 she said she would never return,  but she did. Maybe this time they asked her back too soon?

  7. Here's part of an interview with JER where he talks a little about John/Marlena/Roman (although the question/subject was about Victor/John Aniston), still it's a good read.

That being the case, why didn't you write for John Aniston? Victor used to be the bad boy of Days -- he was in everybody's business. Granted, that was before you got there, but still -- why didn't you make him a rip-snorting villain again?
When I came back, Victor had already become the good guy and Stefano was the villain who affected everybody's lives. I looked at what we had -- which was Roman I and Roman II and Marlena -- and as a viewer I had to ask: Why wasn't there more of an impact on these people's lives when Roman I came back and Marlena found out she was sleeping with the wrong man? I mean, all they played was Marlena sort of looking at John when Roman came back and saying, "Oops." That was it? Hello? We're all going to make believe that Marlena, who had been sleeping with John for so many years and raised children with him, would just turn off her feelings? Yet that's the way it was written. It made no sense. Obviously, John and Marlena -- being basically very decent people -- had to put their lives and feelings on hold because they weren't going to destroy the family and hurt Roman and stuff. It wasn't their fault but it was Stefano's fault.

I had to do surgery. It was the first story I had to address but to do that, I had to bring back Stefano because he was so crucial to it, and in doing that I could not have Victor and Stefano butting heads. I couldn't have two villains the same age. They'd be like Villain One and Villain Two. And the momentum of the baby story with Aniston and Debbie Adair got killed because Debbie wanted to have her own child and was out at various times when she was going through the in-vitro fertilization process.

Also, I feel like WN's Roman got the shaft for John.  He was written like such a jerk after he returned in 1991.

I've seen alot of fans say this over the years, but when I watch clips from WN's original run in 1981-84, I think Roman's the same kind of jerk that he was in 1991-94.

I really don't see many foreign markets interested In Days. It's dying in it's home territory and it would be near impossible to have new viewers be able to jump into the show , plus those barebone production values would hardly be appealing.

Maybe some smaller networks might take it on at bargain basememt prices to fill up airtime...and foreign markets would require subtitling - is that cheap and easy to do?

DAYS already aires in many foreign markets, and Corday wants to get DAYS back to some markets it used to be in (England, France, etc). I guess new markets such as Africa and Latin America can be tricky.

Subtitling is cheaper than dubbing which some countries do.

in addition to developing the DAYS app

About the app, I saw this posted:

Corday raised with Sony the possibility of creating different versions of the app for foreign territories in an effort to promote the show in existing foreign markets and to break into new markets such as Africa and Latin America.

While Sony originally expressed openness to Corday developing an app for the Series, Sony repeatedly failed to respond to Corday's, NBC's, and third parties' inquiries regarding the app.

DAYS has never had the international appeal of Y&R, which still pales to B&B. Y&R's cosmetics/beauty and wealthy lifestyles is a different animal than DAYS, which comes across as more middle class, which is not a bad thing at all. Let's face it, even with the DiMera/Kirakis clans, DAYS sets/clothing, etc. don't really convey 'rich.'

I'm not questioning what you're saying, because I'm sure it applies to some parts of the world (like Italy, but what others?), but here in Northern Europe DAYS is more popular than Y&RB&B and DAYS are the two US soaps that have always mananged to survive while others have come and gone. Santa Barbara and Sunset Beach also did well here.

The James E. Reilly years (first run) made DAYS very popular in many European countries because it was something different from our own domestic soaps and even B&B

Don't shoot me but she'd be a good Vivian Alamain recast

I've seen others suggest that. It's funny cause Robin Strasser and Louise Sorel are friends and it was RS who spoiled Vivian's return last year.

But if they plan to bring back Vivian I want LS to play her. Hopefully RS is playing someone else.

I nearly lost it when Austin, who has been trying to get Carrie back, walks into her apartment and just takes his shirt off. Like, "You can't possibly deny me now! Is it really a mullet, though? It's definitely very 80s but looks more like helmet hair ala Bobby Ewing. In any case, the sexiness wasn't affected all that much by the hair I guess... although he did look even hotter when he finally trimmed it.

You've quoted someone else with my words, @j swift

This isn't really what I was talking about -- I was more making a note about Hogestyn's performance, which can vary wildly from decent to laugh-out-loud hilarious. On the other hand, from what little I've seen from the second half of Reilly's first run, I agree he probably stretched things out too much... but I'll have to see how I feel once I properly watch it all.

Some of us have talked about this before but one of the things that made the outrageous stuff work was how the actors and writers played it seriously. But one scene during the Possession always cracks me up. John and Kristen go into Marlena's bedroom. I think this is right after MarDevil has attacked Mike and Caroline. MarDevil is in the air and pushing wind into the room and John flies back against the wall, Drake has this serious look on his face, all while his hair is living a life on it's own, LOL.

Meanwhile, John is as sexy as ever but Hogestyn trying to act like he's incredibly tormented by his attraction to Marlena which he MUST RESIST is so, so, so hilarious. He plays it as if he's having an appendicitis attack! Still, in most moments he remains charming, competent, and incredibly hot.

I never understood how so many could find him sexy with that mullet. Most guys got rid of it when the 80s ended, but Hogestyn carried it for another whole decade! It was at it's wildest during the possession time period.

Just curious...how is anybody posting anything DOOL on youtube at this point with their copyright police in seemingly full force? I'm asking because I haven't uploaded anything in over 10 years and stopped because it wasn't worth the effort, what with getting the e-mails later that they got blocked. I used to have about 50-60 soap clips on that account, all 1980s-1990s, nothing current. Over the years, they've reduced that to about half...particularly BMG with the music clips in some of the soap scenes and Sony. I just got another 7 e-mails about blocked videos, all Sony, all posted more than 10 years ago and all Steve & Kayla. I've gotten a few others the last few weeks. Funny, I have another channel with some old GL clips and I never hear a peep about those....maybe because that one has a lot fewer subscribers or less interest.

I recently got dinged on one that I've had up a few years.  Just some Doug and Julie scenes from 1993.  Don't know how Sony found that one since I did not mention Days in my description.

Sony and Entura have been going after DAYS clips for the last three years. Before summer 2015, DAYS clips were usually left alone unless a scene had some particular song that got hit with copyright infringement reported by record labels.

Those of us that upload now usually make the clips unlisted so they can't be found by searching on Youtube but only through links. Some don't even use any names related to the show in title for the clips, not even character names.

  16. Steve Wilder (Jack Deveraux on DAYS in 1997-1998) had his scene cut from the new Predator movie after Olivia Munn found out about him being a registered sex offender. Director Shane Black knew about Steve Wilder doing time but has cast him in several of his films to "help a friend".
