  1. I have posted on message boards for over 15 years and have had plenty of heated debates. This is nothing.

When exactly did it become so over-sensitive?

In this social media age it seems you have to include at least 5 different emojis in your posts or people think you are angry/rude/whatever even when you're not.

@KMan101 Do we have any concept of how long TJ is supposed to last? Unless they have some hidden aka random s/l planned, don’t we basically know everything important that happened during the ‘year’?

If DAYS is so budget constrained, how are they still overfilming? I thought that stopped years ago. Why don’t they add those scenes to the online version of the show? I get the OTA version has no flexibility, but giving viewers even more incentive to seek out the digital version seems smart (and good business). Unlike Nielsen, NBC knows exactly how many viewers, which stuff is FF, etc. The more people stream, the longer DAYS will last.

What do you mean with how long it's supposed to last? They're not gonna jump back to Nov 8, 2019 when the missing pieces have been filled in. They jumped a year ahead, that's it. Business as usual, the show goes on.

I don't think they are "overfiliming" as in working late hours like in the past. But they tape important scenes that end up being cut, yet have time for long, unnecessary flashbacks.

Instead of making shady snide comments. You should have told me. In a nice way. Since the time jump . I thought it would be better to lump all the previews. Anyway i made a new thread. 26 pages since Nov. That's SO MUCH. Plus most importantly it didn't bother the admins. I had a really bad day. That was snotty as hell. People should treat others the way they want to be treated. My anxiety disorder is really bad. None of you people care. Feel alone on here just like i do in the real world.

I have no idea what you're talking about. My comment wasn't aimed at you or anyone else in particular. It was a general comment. We're all still posting in this thread.

    Drama queen much?

I'm willing to keep Nina for now. But I'd rather she have been anyone else and she's still not needed, but I'll give the Jax thing a shot.

Not really sure why they're hanging onto Valentin but they hang onto everyone else so ... I think they're writing him better but this tortured soul and twisted love Nina and Valentin has is ... ugh. Enough.

We'll never be rid of Julian and Franco it seems.

I just really really really want Franco and Howarth GONE. Badly.

Some of ya'll should go back and watch 2012-2014. It's pretty amazing how Frank has butchered the show.

I'm with you on Julian and Franco. They are the worst. I want them gone so badly. I felt the same way about Nina when MS played her. Not as much now with CW in the role who I like.

I like JPS and the writing for Valentin has improved.

Do you know a good place to watch 2012-2014? Or any episodes pre-2018?

Because I like to cover my ass and it felt like the DAYS weekly discussion thread so ... ;) LOL

You know I thought about that. The time jump happened in November. Why is this thread still active?

Every new week or month should have it's own spoiler thread instead of this one getting longer and longer, IMO.

They also continue cutting the wrong scenes. Jack with Adrienne was cut. Ron posted about it. Real shame someone keeps [!@#$%^&*] with the show. Yet we could get a 3 and 1/2 minute scene on Sarah worrying about Adrienne, who we never saw her interact with before, IIRC.

I know alot of fans love to whine about Sarah getting much focus but in this case it wasn't uncalled for since she was in the car with Adrienne.

What annoys me with all the cutting of scenes is how they waste minutes of every episode replaying scenes from the previous day. Replaying the last cliffhanger scene is one thing. But sometimes the whole opening act before the hourglass is just a repeat of the episode before.

I'm guessing Summer is the real culprit (NOT A SPOILER TOUPS, IT'S MY GUESS). It frees everyone of blame and Ron didn't bring her back for a hot minute for nothing. It's how he operates. All of these things happened for literally no reason because it's probably Summer's fault.

Guess or not, this is the spoiler section of the board. Why would it be a problem to post it?

    1. Yes to Judi Evans returning more frequently.

    2. No to Adrienne. They did an excellent tribute to the character last week. DAYS needs to make death matter again.

Last week was a reminder why JE is such a pleasure to watch. Better to be rid of Hattie (DH is so lazy), give that ‘role’ to Bonnie. They could use almost same scripts. Haha.

    This!

I also was never a big fan of the Stefano/Marlena obsession.  Wanting to kill her?  Sure, but being so desperately in love with her was just weird.  He's a supervillain.   At some point wouldn't he just cut his losses?  He could get other women.  Paris was really good and all, but it was never a characteristic I enjoyed about Stefano.  So glad they randomly brought that back currently...

Stefano did cut his losses with Marlena... when JER left as head writer. Stefano got more involved with other ladies again: Vivan, Celeste, Kate. Joe was happy with that because he was also tired of Stefano kidnapping Marlena so many times.

That's where they lucked out having Joe Mascolo playing Stefano. He knew the material he was playing was ridiculous, yet he played it with gusto and a wink to the audience.

JM thought the quality of the writing went down when Pat Falken Smith left as head writer. And that was like three months into his original run as Stefano, LOL. But like you said, he ran with it and played it with great gusto.

I think the matriach/patriach characters disappeared from soaps for a variety of reasons.

The emphasis on youth pervaded the soaps in another way as actors in their 40's and beyond projected a far more youthful look than previous generations. Frances Reid and MacDonald Carey were in their 50's when Days began and perfectly acceptable as parents and grandparents. Compare Reid at 51 to Michelle Stafford who is now 54 for example.

Also the shows continued to give the same characters front burner stories Jack Abbott/Victor Newman/Marlena Evans way beyond what was necessary for those characters. Logical character depictions went out the window to keep them front and center when they should have been eased into strong supporting roles.

These are two very good points.

If that is true about NBC that is crazy.  And anyone running the show would not agree.  Because she cost a fortune.  Corday gave her all the money to return to the show, which was in real trouble at the time.  I do not know what kind of contract she had by mid Reilly, but it had to be at least as good if not better after he had centered a huge portion of the show around her.

I hate these network fools.  I was a teen back then, and I was way more invested in Marlena and Bo and Hope than I was Sami/Carrie/Lucas/Austin.  I enjoyed that quad too, but not as much as Bo and Hope.

I meant too old for John. Not too old to be front and center in stories. Again, this is one of the things I've heard over the years.

But I think the longer Reilly's tenure went on, the more power he had to write what he wanted to write.

By the mid 1980’s we had a slew of Brady siblings and they each had a romantic storyline.  When I think about the sheer amount of characters on this show at that point... it’s pretty crazy.  It is a shame that Doug and Julie were sidelined, as I am sure people felt the same about Alex, Mickey and Maggie, Neil, Liz, etc.

I didn’t really notice Julie when I was a kid, until she came back during the Cruise of Deception event.  I loved her back then, still do.

I haven't watched those years but it's my understanding that Alex was the main bad guy in 1979-80, no?  But watching 1982 and onwards, he felt like a secondary antagonist taking orders from players like Stefano and Victor. I don't remember him doing much his last six months on the show after Emma's death. I think if it hadn't been for Quinn Redeker's portrayal, Alex would have been written out much sooner. Speaking of which, his exit, torching the Salem Inn and being taken away in handcuffs, felt kinda lame for a character who had been on for eight years. But then again it seemed like many long-term characters were tossed aside back then. Don and Neil being the two infamous none-exits.

I have to say SSH was smoking hot when she returned in 1990.

Wayne was fired  They said there was no story left for him  I heard Marlena and John were a no go so they tried to  find someone else because Deidre looked too old .  And Dee Hall is my goddess but she does look a little older than John.

I've heard over the years that it was NBC who thought Marlena was too old for John but that Reilly was pro-J&M. Don't know what's true or not.

But wasn't it after Maison Blanche and before the possession that John really courted Kristen when Tony was blind? I think he slept with Kristen before becoming a priest again. I only have 1994 episodes up until August so I haven't watched Sep-Dec since they aired. Going by memory here.

Killing off Adrienne is just so stupid and needless.  But, knowing DAYS, she'll be back.

It's interesting to read the interview with Judi because in the final episode of the Days podcast, Ron said they couldn't really play Adrienne much because of Judi's other full time job (I think at a cemetery or something?). But he said they always have Bonnie. Frankly, I just don't think he cared about Adrienne. She's had that other job for years and it has never seemed to be a problem before when other writers gave her more screen time.

Personally, I like Bonnie more than Adrienne so I hope to see her again.

@Dr Neil Curtis I had no idea Sami had 5 children. Since Will’s the only one on canvas, I do think it would benefit CM to give Will an edge. Im sure part of CM’s trademark smirk and inappropriate smiles is that he is just bored with the milquetoast material.

While he doesn’t have to go all dark side, some real gray would make him far more interesting.

They tried that back in 2012 when Will worked for EJ. The smirking was even worse at that time.

I'm with ya. Craig and Nancy were fun together but once they became boring, no thanks. I agree with you on how their relationship was and should have been.

I also thought Chloe was destined to be Stefano's daughter. It made sense and seemed they were teasing it. Not that he needed any more kids, but still ... (and Greta would have been John's) but then, bam, Craig's suddenly the father and most of us were scratching our head but ok with it because of how close Chloe and Craig were. Lots of missed potential in the Langan era.

It was Brash and Cwikly who made Craig Chloe's father.

That would have been good. Langan reminds me a bit of Mal Young. Seemed to want total control. Remember Lorraine Broderick's unbelievably brief stint as HW in 1999? The potential was there for sure. I also remember a lot of dropped story threads ... and his quick dumping of Louise Sorel and Joseph Mascolo. He also had some Chuck Pratt in him where everyone hated each other (he really seemed to try and trash Bo and John and Jack was comic relief). I will forever love and adore Lexie's descent into DiMera madness, though.

Yep, and Corday allowed it for a long time because he and Langan had the same vision. Broderick did not, but I enjoyed her four week stint. She did some interesting ground work for certain characters, and some stories that had been dragging under Sussman-Morina were given a shot in the arm.

Personally, I'm a fan of the Langan era even if I also see some of his faults.

It's kinda funny to see some folks on Twitter who were gungho about this time jump and were calling things amazing and fire now starting to be more tepid and more wary and less excited. Why? It's the same damn show it was before the jump basically. All the same problems still exist.

Clearly this was more slapped together than I wanted to admit. Even Ron basically seems to have admitted just throwing things out there and seeing what sticks (he didn't say it that way but that's how I took some of his comments about story ideas for the jump).

I had some complaints when I first heard about the TimeJump, but now when I've watched it my problem isn't the jump itself. It's that I find the stories... boring. I actually enjoyed most of the stories that were playing out through the summer and fall so the TimeJump was unnecessary at this time for me.

Gawd they are so boring together.....I loathe Nicole. You'd think with a huge fanbase the ratings would increase...LOL

That's not how soap ratings work in this day and age.

Eric and Nicole ARE popular. Which is why the show throws obstacles in their way. But I'm with @Gray Bunny on this one. GV is boring.

The original Doug's Place debut in 1972.  In 1981 Doug  moved it to The Chisholm mansion. It became Blonde's in 1984. When Neil bought it for Liz. In the late 80's Nick Corelli. bought it. And named his new nightclub Wings. After Nick's murder in 1990. Julie ran it. Somewhere around 91 or 92 it was phased out. We would see it years later as Club TBD. With Sonny as the owner. In 2017 Julie bought it from Sonny. As a gift for a retired Doug. During the time jump it became Julie's Place. The Cheatin Heart never occupied that space. If i remember correctly it was in the seedy part of Salem. Fun fact about Doug's Place. In the early 80's it was discovered that a secret underground tunnel ran from Doug's Place to the DiMera Mansion.

Original Doug's Place is not the same as the one we've seen in recent years!

The Cheatin Heart WAS supposed to be in the seedy part in Salem, but the writers didn't care about that when Sonny changed it to Common Grounds. It was the same set with new colours and furniture. It was when Sonny and Chad later changed it to Club TBD that the set changed and looked completely different (and ugly IMO). Renamning it Doug's Place didn't change it's location or the ugliness.

On 11/27/2019 at 9:41 PM, DynamiteKiddo said:

I thought it went Cheatin' Heart (Adrienne)--->Common Grounds (Sonny and Chad)--->Club TBD (Sonny and Chad, then Dario Hernandez)--->Doug's Place (Julie and Chloe).  It'd explain a lot to me if Club TBD was a totally different location from Common Grounds, though.  I hated that they got rid of The Cheatin' Heart... I loved that they had a dive bar set.  What didn't make sense was that Adrienne Johnson-Kiriakis was the owner and operator.  Judi Evans played bartender well, but it didn't fit the character.  I also liked the exterior alley where you entered The Cheatin' Heart.  That's obviously not the exterior to Club TBD, but I remember the explanation that Sonny and Chad renovated the coffee shop into the club?

This is correct. And just to add. When Sonny and Chad first started Common Grounds Ian McAllister was an anonymous investor. Eduardo Hernandez bought the club and had Dario run it. I don't remember if Dario took ownership when Eduardio went to prison.

Because, there is no genuine sexual or romantic chemistry between Darbo and Spirtas (and for reasons that have nothing to do with her dress size or his sexuality, so whatever you're implying with that remark, @Sindacco, knock it off).  Moreover, I don't buy a man like Craig Wesley being devoted to ANY woman, let alone to Nancy.  To me, Craig came across too much as a heel to see Nancy as anything more than a meal ticket.

I'm not implying anything, it was a question so calm down.

Your interpretation of Craig is exactly how I saw him his first year on the show. Nancy even said early on that she would take her daddy's money and leave if Craig didn't become COS. But that whole dynamic changed once Chloe came along and Craig and Nancy's main purpose on the show were as her parents.
