  1. KAY PETERS IN LOVING MEMORY APRIL 11, 1942-MAY 9, 2025 (Sarah Fredericks, 1970) Kay Peters, who played Sarah Fredericks on "Days of Our Lives" for 34 episodes in 1970 has passed away at the age of 83. On "Days", Sarah Fredericks worked at the prison where Bill Horton and Doug Williams spent time in 1970 and even appeared in the first episode of Bill Hayes (Doug). Peters is pictured above in a "Days" publicity photo with Joan Van Ark, who played Janene Whitney. Kay L. Peters, 83, died May 9, 2025, from respiratory failure. Kay was born and raised in Wooster, Ohio where she began her interest in the arts, dance and debate. While in high school she ran her own dance studio and performed at Canal Fulton Summer Theatre. She was valedictorian of a class of 500. Kay graduated from Northwestern University in 1963 majoring in theatre. She met the love her life, Richard, at college, and they married in 1963. She continued her acting pursuits by performing in dinner theatres while Richard completed his law studies in Chicago. Moving to New York City, she landed a lead role on Broadway, a role on Days of Our Lives, and numerous TV commercials. While in Hollywood she did many guest appearances on Little House on the Prairie, It Takes a Thief, The Bold Ones, and CHiPs. She also did One Life to Live and half a dozen movies. Pausing her career to start a family, having daughters Tara (1971) and Tracy (1973), she had to focus on her early skills of teaching. The seeds were planted for a shift in career to communication skills training. In 1978 Kay became a member of the Board of Directors of Screen Actors Guild and was asked to chair the new Telecommunications Committee. She had to interface with Congress and ultimately testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on copyright issues opposite Ted Turner. Watching others testify cemented her shift to teach communications skills. Kay developed those skills by working for a small boutique firm for several years. Opening her own company in 1994, Kay trained CEOs, scientists, lawyers, doctors, management consultants, IPOs launches, investment bankers, and occasionally children of clients' college bound. Kay worked both domestically and internationally. The same passion Kay had for acting and communication training, she had for her family. She always had time for her daughters and husband. Kay was lifelong Presbyterian and member of the Brick Presbyterian Church. Kay started each morning in saying: This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalms 118:24). Kay is survived by her husband, Richard, their two daughters Tara (Michael) Peterson and Tracy (Jonathon) Herpel, grandchildren, Xander, Beau, Audrey, Alistair, and a sister Joan (Maurice) Moore. Contributions in Kay Peters' honor may be made to Helen Keller Intl, Contributions Office, P.O. Box 6077, Albert Lea, MN 56007-9860 HelenKellerIntl.org/donate A memorial service will be held at the Brick Presbyterian Church on October 3, 2025, at 11:00am. A reception will follow. 3. JANUARY 1952 & FEBRUARY 1952: Notes: When "Miss Susan" ended, NBC looks to also have lost sponsors for "Hawkins Falls", which no longer is rated on Tuesdays or Thursdays. Looking over the telecast dates again, it looks like there are no dark weeks at this point, and one of the books every other month includes a 3-week average, so I am updating the earlier charts to reflect those changes. Unlike the other soaps, which are all listed with a program type of DS (which I assume either means dramatic serial or daytime serial), Fair Meadows USA is listed with a program type of GD, along with these other programs: Armstrong Circle Theater, Cameo Theater, Celanese Theater, City Hospital, Crime Syndicated, Fireside Theater, Goodyear TV Playhouse, Greatest Story Ever Told, Gruen Playhouse, Hollywood Open Night, Hollywood Screen Test, Kraft Television Theater, Lux Video Theater, Not for Publication, Philco TV Playhouse, Pulitzer Prize Playhouse, Rebound, Robert Montgomery Presents, Sarah Churchill Show, Schlitz Playhouse of Stars and Studio One. That's all for now. Coming soon will be 1972!
  4. Thanks for the info! So that solves part of the mystery. It was just 13 minutes, but something had to air the other 2 minutes.
  5. I forgot in 1951 most stuff was live, so it's not like they would have promos to air of upcoming episodes of primetime shows. And, also, I forgot originally when posting that these shows were mostly just 15 minutes, so even with a sponsor, they probably each only had a 1-minute or 2-minute ad and then a total of 13 minutes of episode. So maybe they just wrote an additional 2 minutes of Egg & I to fill the full 15 minutes. We have one more batch of January & February 1952 to come and that's it for now.
  6. NOVEMBER 1951 & DECEMBER 1951: Notes: Fair Meadows USA was a Sunday afternoon soap only, so I did not include it in the weekly rankings of the Monday-Friday soaps.
  7. Thanks! If there were no sponsors though, were there some type of commercials at least? Or were all the commercials just CBS promos and things like that? Now you have me wondering. Or was it just 15 minutes straight of the show.
  8. A SURPRISE FROM 74 YEARS AGO! THE SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 1951 SOAP RATINGS, INCLUDING THE DEBUT WEEK RATINGS FOR "SEARCH FOR TOMORROW" AND "LOVE OF LIFE" While we are awaiting the 1972 ratings, in the meantime, this surprise arrived from 1951! Notes: These are the two-week averages for each soap. Nielsen weeks ran from Sunday to Saturday in 1951. The week of 9/23/51-9/29/51 was a dark week. Random programs that did not have sponsors were unrated, as was the case with "The Egg and I." Any programs unrated are not listed at all in the book, so no preemption data is available for that soap either. Will post this in the 1950's thread as well!
  9. A SURPRISE FROM 74 YEARS AGO! THE SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 1951 SOAP RATINGS, INCLUDING THE DEBUT WEEK RATINGS FOR "SEARCH FOR TOMORROW" AND "LOVE OF LIFE" Notes: These are the two-week averages for each soap. Nielsen weeks ran from Sunday to Saturday in 1951. Also, there seem to be no dark weeks in 1951/1952. Based on the telecast dates, once every other month is a 3-week average. Random programs that did not have sponsors were unrated, as was the case with "The Egg and I." Any programs unrated are not listed at all in the book, so no preemption data is available for that soap either.
  10. Thought it would be fun for Days history fans, especially since it involved Bill and Pat specifically! You can sort of get the feeling of seeing Bill dictating all of this to his secretary in Chicago, or perhaps he typed this himself.
  11. FROM THE VAULT: EPISODE # 1706: 53 YEARS AGO TODAY: AUGUST 9, 1972: A LOOK BACK AT TWO "DAYS" LEGENDS: BILL BELL'S OUTLINE TO PAT FALKEN SMITH: Here's a look at Bill Bell's outline of Episode # 1706, which aired 53 years ago today, on August 9, 1972. Bill describes the action in the episode to Pat Falken Smith (who has just returned from a vacation), who is tasked with writing the dialogue for the episode:

  15. I found it quickly because I remember a long time ago, Sony would post audio-only episodes of Days, and they would include the script I believe. So I think I only watched a few episodes of that, and I found out these characters were called Handmaidens in the script. I probably had just listed them as Woman # 1 and Woman # 2 in my notes back in 1994. But, in any event, because that was the episode I had happened to "listen to" (mainly for the script data), it was a quick search of Handmaiden in my file. 7430...12/16/94: Cast: Abe, Billie, Bo, Caroline, Gina, Jack, Jennifer, John, Kristen, Laura, Marlena, Shawn, Stefano, Dr. Perkins, Father Francis, Lisa, Priest (Paul), Handmaiden # 1, Handmaiden # 2, Mystery Person ("Marlena"). Sets: Carrie's Apartment & Corridor, The Meadows Common Room, Brady Pub & Exterior, Rectory Office, Marlena's Bedroom, Golden Tent with Bath Area, Jack's Room/The Meadows, St. Luke's Church.
  16. We don't have a full record of script writers from the mid 1980s to 2001, since they didn't run the credits every day. So, it's possible she wrote maybe a few scripts but was never in the credits. At most, she would have been a freelance writer, not on staff.
  17. I didn't use the Schemering book for any of this, although that is a great book. I used the Encyclopedia of Daytime Television, which was published in 1997, as a starting point for my research. Then the Broadcasting monthly charts helped with the DuMont stuff in the 1950's. Schemering's book covered all of the primetime soaps as well, so none of those are involved in these lists.
  18. I did look into something similar to those, the issues of Broadcasting that are posted have monthly charts from the 1950's, listing the sponsors of all the network series, so for DuMont I found these additional 15 series (not listed in Encyclopedia of Daytime TV) which I posted in this thread: 15 DuMONT SERIES LISTED ON BROADCASTING MAGAZINE MONTHLY CHARTS: (months listed on charts, but not in Daytime TV Encyclopedia) Broadway Matinee with Ethel Colby (8/4/52-1/53) DuMont Kindergarten (5/49-6/49) DuMont Merchandise (5/50) The Ethel Thorsen Show (8/5/52-11/52) Fashions at the Waldorf (10/49-(12/49) (some sources list this as local only) Kitchen Fare (5/50) Morning Chapel (Mid-Day Chapel as of 3/7/50) (7/49-5/50; 3/53-4/53) Movie Shorts (7/49) Noontime News (10/51-1/53, 3/53-4/53) Sidewalks of New York (2/49-4/49) Susan Raye Sings (6/50-2/51) Take the Break with Don Russell (8/51-6/53) 12 O'Clock Headliners (6/51-9/51) Universal Homemaking/Universal Appliances (as of 5/51) (aka Susan Adams Kitchen) (3/51-5/51) Your Television Shopper (5/49-4/50) I don't know if I have the time to check the weekly reports you mentioned, but if you, or anyone else, ever finds any additional daytime DuMont series in those, I'll be happy to add them to the list!
  19. Made those updates to the lists. Additional BB notes found: 6/16/21 Unrated CBS News Special Report - B&B did release a new episode From a SoapSheKnows post: Q: Does anyone know whether or not B&B will reply Wednesday’s episode tomorrow or will it be available On Demand? It was preempted in EDT time zone. Thanks in advance. A: Go to your CBS app at about 6pm tonight. It should be on there. Hope that helps. 12/19/22 Unrated CBS News Special Report - B&B did release a new episode Today’s new #BoldandBeautiful will air as planned. If it was preempted in your area, it will be available on @paramountplus earlier than usual. 2:21 PM · Dec 19, 2022
  20. 6/30/25-7/4/25 UPDATES: All BTG repeat episodes 6/30/25-7/4/25 are amended (rated separately). BB, GH & YR 7/4/25 episodes are rated as specials.
  21. 1973 weekly ratings added to archive: https://www.jason47.com/days/ratings1973.html
  22. UPDATE NOTE: The special airings on the preemption lists listed as "rated separately" (when not specifically rated as a breakout or a special) are also known as amended titles. Not sure what the difference between a "breakout" and an "amended title" is, but there seems to be some difference. "Days" had 25 amended titles from 2008-2013 and then never had any after that: 6/16/08 6/30/08 7/1/08 7/2/08 6/22/09 6/29/09 6/30/09 7/1/09 2/26/10 5/4/10 6/17/10 6/18/10 6/28/10 6/29/10 6/30/10 5/5/11 6/16/11 6/17/11 6/27/11 6/28/11 6/29/11 6/14/12 6/15/12 6/13/13 6/14/13 The only other soaps to have amended titles are (denoted as "rated separately" on the preemption lists): BB 2020-2023 GH 2015-2023 YR 2019-2023
  23. BB 2023 added to list. 1973-2023 preemptions now complete! 2024-2025 (through 7/4/25) preemption data added to lists thanks to the research of BoldRestless.
  24. YR 2023 added to list.
