1987/1988 seems to be an extremely bad era for GL. 1987 had Vanessa and India. exiting, the introduction of bland Johnny, the art scam, the whole Paul Valere murder mess (warren, really??), Alex and HB dating, and the oh so dull Fletcher/Maeve combo. ‘88 brings even more ridiculousness-Johnny’s cancer/miraculous recovery, the Rose/Rusty story, George/Cam drug saga, and Alan/Reva. The Sonni/Solida story has promise but gets murky-(was she Solita all along? A multiple personality or both?)Mindy seems adrift—they just throw Will at her at one point. Alan-Michael/Harley sounds good, but they seem to throw Phillip into the mix as a spoiler (the less said about him and Chelsea , the better).

GL really went downhill after Pam Long left in 1986 (not that her collab with Jeff Ryder was spectacular) It seems there were 3 different head writer regimes-Just Jeff Ryder to Ryder/Mary Ryan Munisteri to Joseph Manetta (?) to Sheri Anderson/Jospeh Manetta. Each seemed to denigrate the show more than the last

Was watching a GL ep from 1986 and Jerry Lanning was playing a character named Cain. He chewed up more scenery than Kim Zimmer! Did he play Justin in such an over the top way as well?

I tend to take all McTavish’s claims with a grain of salt. I find her quote she attributed to Agnes re: Susan Lucci totally unbelievable.Lucci was the star of that show—no way Agnes would jokingly or otherwise disparage her. I will concede to her point that Lucci as a Vegas showgirl at that point in her life was a stretch. It seems to me McTavish is one of those folks who have to tear others down to feel better about themselves.

1985 is such a strange year for the show. An influx of uninspired characters (Calla, Jessie, Maeve, Suzette,Jackson), yet another random Spaulding (Simon), ridiculous stories (Infinity, Kyle’s parentage). The departures of Nola/Quint and Annabelle/ Tony leave a noticeable hole in the canvas.

I had no idea that AW was going to do a storyline about the devil. Was Carl involved? I read up thread he “called” the devil? What exactly aired before the story was scrapped?

Having just completed the 81 episodes featuring Mart Hulswit as Ed Bauer, I've experienced a significant shift in my perception of the character. This marks the first time I've genuinely connected with Ed, a stark contrast to my previous experience with Peter Simon's portrayal. Simon's Ed consistently appeared disengaged, almost as if he were reluctant to embody the role. Whether this disconnect stemmed from the writing during Simon's tenure or his interpretation of the character, I can't definitively say. However, Hulswit's performance has been a enjoyable, a stark contrast to the dour Ed of he 1990’s

Started watching January 1981 episodes. Good classic story-Jennifer Richards trial/Amanda paternity reveal, Andy Norris blackmail schemes, Nola’s pursuit of Kelly, Alan/Hope/Justin/Jackie! Also, I am enjoying Mart Hulswit’s portrayal of Ed. My only frame of reference for the Ed character was Peter Simon’s dour and humorless interpretation

Edge of Night (EON) (No spoilers please)
TPTB should have never fired Henry Slesar. Lee Sheldon was not a good fit. He may be a good writer of self contained episodic tv series, but had no idea how to write continuing drama. His stories ran from the ridiculous (mind control by cable TV) , pointless (The Wellington murders-characters and murderer who had no connection to the canvas), to laughable (Beth-the 35 yr old virgin and her slutty sister-“they made me be a palentologist”). The less said about the retconned Logan Swift story the better.(alththough Lois finally got to play something!)

To add to the babies with the “same name” thread-On “DAYS” both Justin and Adrienne and Steve and Kayla named their son “Joe” after Steve/Adrienne’s mother, Jo. The characters have not to my knowledge been on the canvas at the same time, nor has anyone mentioned the cousins with the same name

I don’t see how DAYS can ever get a new writer with their low budget and wackadoo advance 7 month taping schedule.
